SDI Pregnancy payment delayed after filing continued eligibility form - how soon will money arrive?
I'm 32 weeks pregnant and this is my first time on disability. My next SDI payment was supposed to hit my account today, but nothing showed up. I checked my account and realized I needed to complete the continued eligibility certification form (which I just submitted like 20 minutes ago). Totally my fault for not realizing this needed to be done, but now I'm worried about timing... Does anyone know how quickly EDD processes these forms once submitted? Will my payment be released immediately or is there another waiting period? I've got bills due next week and was counting on this payment. This pregnancy brain is real - I can't believe I missed this step! Has anyone else been in this situation with their pregnancy disability claim? Any idea when I can expect to see the funds?

Don't worry - this happens to a lot of people with pregnancy SDI claims! Once you submit the continued certification form, payments typically process within 24-48 hours. Since you just submitted it today, you should see the payment by Monday or Tuesday at the latest. The good news is that the system is mostly automated now, so as long as you didn't report any changes that require review (like returning to work part-time), it should process quickly. Make sure you set calendar reminders for your future certification dates. For pregnancy disability, you'll need to continue certifying every two weeks until you transition to Paid Family Leave after delivery.

•Oh thank goodness! This is such a relief to hear. I was panicking thinking it might take another week or something. I'll definitely set up reminders for future certifications - lesson learned! Do you know if the payment will still have today's date on it or will it show the date it actually processes?

THEY ARE THE WORST ABOUT TELLING YOU WHEN TO CERTIFY!!! My doctor never told me I had to keep certifying every 2 weeks and EDD never sent me any notifications about it. I missed THREE payments during my pregnancy and had to call them to figure out why!!! The whole system is designed to make you fail I swear. And good luck getting through to an actual person if you have any questions.

•I had the same frustration! But I found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an EDD representative in under 5 minutes when I was having certification issues with my pregnancy disability. Saved me hours of hold time and redials. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd and their website is claimyr.com. Totally worth it when you're stressed about missing payments!

•OMG thank you for this!!! Going to try it tomorrow because I STILL have questions about my transitioning to PFL after the baby comes. My last agent hung up on me after I waited 2.5 hours!!!

To clarify some important details about continued certification for SDI pregnancy claims in 2025: 1. Certification periods are every 14 days during your pregnancy disability leave 2. The EDD system should send automated email reminders 5 days before your certification is due (check your spam folder) 3. Once you submit a late certification, payment processing typically takes 24-72 hours (business days only) 4. Late certifications don't affect your benefit amount, just the timing of payment 5. If you certify on a Friday or weekend, processing usually starts the next business day 6. You can check payment status in your SDI Online account under "Payment Activity" When your pregnancy disability ends and you transition to Paid Family Leave (PFL) for bonding time, you'll need to file a new claim - it's a separate process with different certification requirements.

•Thank you for all this detailed information! I didn't realize EDD sends email reminders - I'll definitely check my spam folder. And good to know about the transition to PFL requiring a completely new claim. Does disability automatically end on my due date, or does it continue until I actually deliver?

•Your pregnancy disability continues until your doctor determines you're able to return to your normal work activities. For uncomplicated pregnancies, this is typically 4 weeks before your due date and 6-8 weeks after delivery (longer for C-sections). Your doctor will need to certify your recovery period, so SDI doesn't automatically end on your due date. You'll need a final release from your doctor before starting PFL for bonding time.

Wait I'm confused - I thought pregnancy claims were different and you didn't have to certify them? Is this something new in 2025? I was on pregnancy disability in 2023 and never had to do any certification forms during that time. My doctor just submitted the initial paperwork and that was it until I gave birth and switched to paid family leave.

•There was a significant change to the SDI system in late 2024. Prior to that, many pregnancy claims didn't require continued certification if they were for the standard duration. But under the new regulations, all disability claims including pregnancy now require certification every two weeks. It's caused a lot of confusion because many doctors and even some EDD representatives aren't fully up to speed on the changes.

•Yes! The money hit my account about 36 hours after I submitted the certification. It was processed the next day but took another day to show up in my bank account. Hope yours comes through quickly too!

I'm so glad you got your payment! This is really helpful information for anyone else going through pregnancy disability. I just want to add that if anyone is still having trouble with their SDI payments or certifications, make sure to keep detailed records of when you submit everything. Screenshot your submission confirmations and keep track of dates - it really helps if you need to call EDD later. Also, if you're having trouble accessing the online portal to certify, you can sometimes call the automated phone system as a backup option. The pregnancy journey is stressful enough without worrying about missed payments!

•This is such great advice about keeping records! I wish I had known this when I started my claim. I definitely learned my lesson about setting up reminders and staying organized with all the paperwork. It's crazy how much you have to keep track of on top of everything else during pregnancy. Thanks for sharing these tips - they'll definitely help other moms going through this process!
