SDI Claim Filed 2 Months Ago, Still No Approval or Payment. Normal Wait Time?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my California SDI claim. I filed it at the beginning of November for a disability that started at the end of September. It's been a few weeks, and all I've gotten is a notification that my doctor filled out their part. Anyone know how long it usually takes for claims to be approved and payments to start? I'm getting a bit anxious about the wait time.

Ugh, I feel ya. The waiting game with EDD is the worst. I filed mine back in August and didn't see a penny until October. It's like they're running on Internet Explorer or something 🐌

Right?? 😅 Sometimes I wonder if they're secretly training snails to process our claims

Okay, let me break this down for you based on my experience and what I've gathered: 1. Processing time: Generally, it takes about 14 days from the date you file your claim. But that's in an ideal world. 2. Backlog issues: Due to the pandemic and staffing shortages, many claims are taking longer. Some folks are reporting 4-6 weeks. 3. Start date discrepancy: You mentioned filing in November for a September start date. This might cause a slight delay as they may need to verify the earlier date. 4. Doctor's certification: Good news that your doctor's part is in. That often holds things up. 5. Next steps: - Keep an eye on your online account for updates - If it's been over 14 business days, try calling them - Make sure all your info is up to date 6. Payment: Once approved, you should get your first payment within a week. Hang in there! The system's far from perfect, but they do eventually get to everyone.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! It really helps to have it all broken down like this. I guess I'll give it another week or so before I start trying to call them.

Great info, but good luck actually getting through on the phone. I've been trying for days and it's always busy 😤

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

It does! I was skeptical too, but I got through in about 2 hours. Way better than spending all day hitting redial.

$20 seems steep just to make a phone call. Is it really worth it?

For me it was. I was losing my mind trying to get through. $20 to save hours of frustration was a good trade-off.

have you tried faxing your claim? I heard somewhere that faxed claims get processed faster cuz they go to a different department or something

Wait, what year is it? People still use fax machines? 😂

You'd be surprised. Government agencies love their fax machines. It's like they're stuck in a time warp or smthn

Has anyone tried contacting their local state representative? I've heard they can sometimes help speed things up with EDD claims.

I did this! It actually helped. My claim was stuck for weeks, but after I reached out to my assembly member's office, it got resolved in like 10 days.

How do you even find out who your local rep is? 🤔

Just Google "Find my California state representative". There's a website where you can enter your address and it'll tell you who represents your district.

pro tip: check your spam folder regularly. Sometimes important EDD emails end up there for some reason. Don't ask me why, their system is wack

Anyone else notice that the EDD website is always "down for maintenance" when you actually need to use it? It's like they know 😒

Hey OP, have you checked if your employer submitted their part of the form? Sometimes that can hold things up too.

Oh man, I didn't even think about that. I'll give HR a call tomorrow to make sure. Thanks for the heads up!
