Returning to work soon - How will this affect my unemployment benefits?

Hey everyone, I'm going back to work soon and I'm not sure how it's going to affect my benefits. Has anyone been through this before? What should I expect?

Congrats on going back to work! šŸŽ‰ Make sure you report your return to work date to the unemployment office ASAP. They'll adjust your benefits accordingly. Better to let them know early than risk an overpayment situation.

It took about 2 weeks for me, but I've heard it can vary. Keep an eye on your account and maybe give them a call if you don't see any changes after a couple weeks.

Heads up, depending on how much you'll be earning, you might still be eligible for partial benefits. Check your state's rules on partial unemployment - could be worth looking into!

I feel you. Spent hours on hold last month trying to sort out an issue. It's ridiculous.

Actually, I found a way to get through! There's this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that calls for you, waits on hold, and then connects you when a real person picks up. It costs $20 but saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Wait, for real? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

Yep, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it worked like a charm. Saved me from pulling my hair out lol

Here's what you need to know about returning to work and unemployment benefits: • Report your return-to-work date immediately • Your benefits will likely stop on your first day back • If you're working reduced hours, you might qualify for partial benefits • Keep certifying until your claim is officially closed • Save some money if you can - there might be a gap between your last benefit payment and first paycheck • If you become unemployed again within a year, you may be able to reopen your claim Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

anyone else feel like the whole system is designed to be as confusing as possible? šŸ¤” like they want us to mess up so they can deny benefits

Preach! šŸ™Œ It's a total clown show. I swear they make it complicated on purpose.

Make sure to keep all your paperwork and benefit statements! You never know when you might need them for tax purposes or if theres an issue down the line.

Congrats on the new job! Don't forget to factor in how this might affect other benefits you're receiving, like food stamps or healthcare. Sometimes going back to work can mess with those too.

Oh snap, good point! I totally forgot about that when I went back to work and lost my medicaid coverage. Definitely look into this OP!

One thing I wish someone had told me - make sure your employer knows your exact start date too! I had a mix-up where I told EDD one date but my HR had me down for a different date, and it caused some confusion with my final benefit payment. Also, if you're starting part-time or have a probationary period, you might still qualify for reduced benefits during that transition. Worth asking about!
