Missing wage information form in new EDD SDI claim process? Did something change?
I just submitted a new SDI claim online last week (stress-related conditions) and got my receipt number to give to my doctor. The weird thing is, I don't remember seeing any section where I had to report my wages like I did before. Last time I filed (2021 for surgery recovery), there was definitely a part where I had to list how much I earned for specific weeks before my disability started. Did they change the process? Is there a separate wage form I need to complete now that I missed? My doctor already submitted her certification, but I'm worried my claim will get delayed if I missed submitting wage information. Anyone file recently who can clarify?

The EDD changed their process in late 2023! Now they automatically receive your wage data from your employer through their quarterly reporting system. You should see a section called "Wages Used to Calculate Benefit" once your claim is processed. They'll use your highest quarter earnings in your base period to calculate your weekly benefit amount. No need to manually report wages anymore unless something's missing after they process it.

•Oh thank goodness! That makes so much sense. I was starting to panic thinking I'd missed a crucial step. Do you know how long it typically takes before they show that wage calculation? My doctor already submitted her part.

•That's good to hear! How long did it take between when you filed and when you got your first payment?

Actually, I just logged into my SDI account again and don't see any update yet. Should I be concerned that they don't have my wage info? My employer is pretty small (only 12 employees) and I'm worried they might not have reported properly.

•It's normal not to see any wage info right away. The EDD has to process your claim first, which can take 2-3 weeks (sometimes longer). Once they process it, that's when the wage information will appear. If they're missing wage data, they'll contact you for additional information. If your claim stays in "pending" status for more than 2 weeks after your doctor certified, that's when you might want to call EDD to check status. Be prepared for long wait times though.

THE EDD SYSTEM IS SO CONFUSING!!!! They change the process every few years and NEVER properly communicate it! I had the EXACT same question in 2024 when I filed for my pregnancy disability. Sat there for 20 minutes looking for the wage form that wasn't there anymore! WHY don't they put a note explaining this??? So many people must be confused like us!

This post reminded me of when I filed for disability last summer after my appendix ruptured. I was so worried about the wage info too! But it all worked out fine even though I was confused by the process. My only issue was that my doctor submitted the certification late which delayed everything by like 3 weeks. Make sure your doctor submitted their part!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! My doctor confirmed she submitted her part the day after I gave her the claim number, so at least that part should be okay. I just need to be patient I guess.

Just to add some info - if your employer hasn't properly reported your wages or if you've worked for multiple employers, EDD might send you a DE 2588 (Notice of Wages Used to Calculate Benefit Amount) that shows $0 or incorrect amounts. If that happens, you'll need to submit a DE 2501F form with proof of your earnings (paystubs, etc). But most people don't need to do this now with the new system. Just wait for your claim to process first.

•That's really helpful information! I'll keep an eye out for that notice. I've been with the same employer for 3 years, so hopefully everything is reported correctly. The waiting is just making me anxious since bills are piling up.

Am I the only one who thinks the new system is actually WORSE? With the old way, at least you KNEW your wage info was submitted. Now we're just supposed to trust that employers reported everything correctly? My claim in February had issues because my employer's quarterly reports were missing one month of my wages. Took FOREVER to fix.

•That's a fair point about the downsides of automation. If there are discrepancies in employer reporting, it can create problems. But for the majority of claimants, the new system is more efficient. Always good to keep paystubs for the past 18 months just in case you need to prove your earnings.

Update: My claim was just approved! It took 11 days from when I filed online. You were all right - they calculated my benefits automatically based on previous wage reporting. My weekly benefit amount is $1,325 which seems correct based on my salary. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance!

•11 days is FAST these days! My pregnancy disability claim took 22 days to approve in January. Glad the system worked for someone!

Congrats on the quick approval! That's really reassuring to hear. I'm actually going through a similar situation right now - filed my SDI claim two weeks ago for anxiety/depression and was also confused about the missing wage section. Your post and all these responses have been super helpful. Sounds like I just need to be patient and wait for the processing. Did you get any email notifications when your claim status changed, or did you have to keep checking the portal?
