EDD SDI earnings quarters not showing up - stuck in pending medical provider status

Filed my disability claim last week after my herniated disc surgery and I'm totally confused about the quarterly earnings part. My SDI claim is showing 'pending medical provider form' status, but I can't find anywhere to enter my past earnings. I'm worried because the weekly benefit amount section is completely blank. My doctor said she submitted the medical certification yesterday through SDI Online, but nothing has changed. Will I get to enter my earnings from the past 18 months after the medical form is processed? Or should I have entered that information somewhere during the initial application? Starting to panic because I need to budget for bills while I'm recovering for the next 8 weeks. Anyone know what happens next in the process?

You don't need to enter your quarterly earnings manually. EDD automatically calculates your benefit amount based on your highest quarter of earnings in your base period (which is typically 5-18 months before your claim starts). After your doctor's certification is processed and approved, you'll see your weekly benefit amount calculated. The system pulls your wage data from their records based on what employers reported for you.

Oh thank god!! I was stressing so much about this. So I literally just need to wait for them to process my doctor's form and then everything will populate automatically? That's such a relief. Do you know roughly how long that typically takes?

when i did mine last year they just did all that automatic u dont put nothing in. doctor has to certif u first then they calculate from taxes or something. mine took like 10 days after doc form went thru.

10 days!? That seems so long when bills are due. Did you call them at all during that time or just wait it out?

THE SYSTEM IS GARBAGE!! I went through this exact same thing in March and it took them THREE WEEKS to process my doctor's form even though she submitted it electronically right away. I called every day for 2 weeks and couldn't get through to ANYONE. They calculate your benefit based on what your employer reported for taxes, but they won't tell you what that amount is until your claim is fully processed. It's designed to be confusing and frustrating so people give up.

Yep, same here. Took 17 days for my claim to move from pending to approved. So frustrating when you're already dealing with health issues.

If you need to check on the status of your claim or get specific information about your benefit calculation, I recommend using Claimyr to connect with an EDD representative. I was stuck in the same situation and couldn't get through on the phones for days. I used their service at claimyr.com and got connected to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes who explained exactly what was happening with my claim. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd that shows how it works. It was honestly worth it to get answers instead of stressing for weeks.

I've never heard of this service before. Does it actually work? I've been trying to call EDD for two days now with no luck. If this can get me through to someone who can check my claim status, I might try it.

Your claim status will automatically update after your doctor's form is processed. The SDI system uses your wage data from the base period (which is different from regular unemployment). For claims filed in 2025, they look at wages earned approximately from January 2023 through December 2024, depending on exactly when you filed. The wage data comes directly from your employer's quarterly reports to EDD - you don't enter it yourself. Once your claim is approved, you'll see your weekly benefit amount calculated based on your highest quarter of earnings during that period. You can verify if your doctor's form was received by clicking on "View Medical Provider Form Receipt" in your SDI Online account. This will at least confirm if it's in their system.

I forgot to mention - if there's a discrepancy in your wage data (like if you worked for multiple employers or had a job change), you can submit a request for reconsideration AFTER your claim is processed. But for now, you just need to wait for the medical certification to be approved.

I did switch jobs about 8 months ago, so that's good to know. I'll check that receipt section when I get home from my doctor appointment. Thanks everyone for the help - feeling much less panicked now!
