How to transition from SDI to PFL? Need step-by-step guidance
Hey everyone, I need some help transitioning from SDI to PFL. I'm not sure how to end my SDI and start the PFL process. Anyone been through this before? What steps do I need to take? I'm feeling a bit lost and could use some guidance on getting started.

I went through this recently! Here's what you need to do: 1. Notify EDD about ending your SDI. You can do this by calling them or sending a message through your online account. 2. Gather necessary documents for PFL: proof of relationship (like a birth certificate) and medical certification from the doctor. 3. Submit a PFL claim through the EDD website. You'll need to create a new claim, even if you're transitioning from SDI. 4. Wait for EDD to process your claim. They might contact you for additional info. 5. Once approved, you'll start receiving PFL benefits. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. Quick question - how long did it take for your PFL claim to be processed?

For me, it took about 2 weeks. But I've heard it can vary. Some ppl get it faster, others wait longer. Just keep an eye on your EDD account for updates!

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD! I used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then sends the call to your phone when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yep, 100% legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

How long did you have to wait before they connected you?

It took about 2 hours for me, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. They just called me when an agent was ready!

make sure you dont have any gaps between ur SDI ending and PFL starting. I messed that up and it was a huge headache to fix ๐ซ

Anyone know if theres a waiting period between SDI and PFL? Or can you start PFL immediately after SDI ends?

Lily Young
There's no waiting period if you're transitioning directly from SDI to PFL. But make sure you submit your PFL claim before your SDI ends to avoid any gaps!

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like they need a law degree to understand all these benefit rules? ๐ค
