EDD says I'm ineligible but can appeal - What does this mean and what should I do?
Hey everyone, I just got a message from EDD saying my application was processed but I'm ineligible for benefits. They mentioned I can appeal though. Is this normal? At least they didn't say I was disqualified, right? Anyone else been through this? What should I do next?

Yeah, this is pretty common actually. Being ineligible doesn't mean you're completely out of luck. It just means there might be some issues with your application or they need more info. Did they give you any specific reasons for the ineligibility?

Nah, they didn't give me any reasons. That's why I'm so confused. How am I supposed to appeal if I don't even know what the problem is? 🤔

Oof, that's frustrating. You might need to call them to get more details. Be prepared for a long wait time though, EDD's phone lines are notoriously busy.

I've been there, buddy. Here's what you need to do: 1. Don't panic. Ineligible doesn't mean disqualified. 2. Check your EDD online account for any messages or requests for additional info. 3. If there's nothing there, you'll need to call EDD. Be persistent, it might take multiple tries. 4. When you get through, ask for the specific reason for ineligibility. 5. Once you know the reason, gather any supporting documents for your appeal. 6. File the appeal within the deadline (usually 30 days). 7. Be prepared for a hearing where you'll present your case. Remember, many people win their appeals. It's a hassle, but don't give up!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! It's really helpful to have a step-by-step guide. I'll definitely follow these steps. Fingers crossed 🤞

This is solid advice. I'd add: keep a record of all your communications with EDD. It can come in handy during the appeal process.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials through the phone menu, stays on hold, and then forwards the call to you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

I'm in the same boat, OP. Been trying to figure out why I'm ineligible for weeks. This system is so broken 😤

Pro tip: If you can't get through on the phone, try contacting your local state representative's office. They often have direct lines to EDD and can help push things along.

That's a great idea! I never thought of that. Do you know how I can find my local rep's contact info?

Sure thing! Just google '[Your State] Find My Representative' and you should get a website where you can enter your address to find your rep. Good luck!
