EDD paid only 1/4 of usual amount for 3 days instead of 2 weeks despite doctor's extension. What to do?

My disability payment was way off this time. I usually get a full two weeks, but this time it was only for 3 days and the amount was like a quarter of what I normally receive. I've already sent in the paperwork from my doctor for an extension, which EDD should have by now. I really need this money. Has anyone else experienced something similar or know what I should do?

Ugh, that sucks! I've had similar issues with EDD before. Have you tried calling them? Sometimes theres errors in their system that only get fixed if you talk to someone directly.

I've been trying to call for days but can never get through. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call right when they open. I usually have better luck getting through that way.

Calling is useless, I swear they have like 2 people working the phones 🙄

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site called claimyr.com. It's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

How long did you have to wait once they started calling?

It took about an hour for me, but way better than trying to call myself all day!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Double-check that your doctor's extension paperwork was actually received. Sometimes it gets lost in the shuffle. 2. If EDD has the paperwork, there might be a processing delay. Call and ask for a status update. 3. Request a review of your claim. There could be a calculation error. 4. If all else fails, contact your local state representative. They can sometimes expedite EDD issues. 5. Document everything! Keep a record of all your calls, emails, and paperwork submissions. Hang in there, the system is a mess right now but persistence usually pays off.

This is solid advice. I'd add: check your EDD online account regularly for any new messages or requests for info.

Have you checked your EDD account online? Sometimes there are messages or requests for additional info that can hold up your payments.

I did check, but there's nothing new there. It's so confusing!

This happened to me last month. Turns out there was a glitch in their system that was affecting a bunch of claims. Keep calling and don't give up!

It took about 2 weeks after I finally got through to someone. The backpay came all at once tho

idk if this helps, but I had a similar issue and it turned out my employer had reported incorrect wages. Might be worth checking with your work too.

CONTACT YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE!!! Seriously, this is the fastest way to get EDD to move on your claim. They have special liaisons who can cut through the red tape.
