EDD nightmare: SDI claim from 3 years ago still unpaid, funds lost between BofA and EDD. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm in a really frustrating situation with my disability claim from 3 years ago. I filed for SDI after having a baby, but I still haven't received my funds. EDD released the money to a BofA account, but by the time I got the debit card, the account was frozen for fraud. I did everything they asked to release the hold, but nothing worked. Now EDD is using a different bank, and BofA says they sent the money back to EDD in February. When I talked to EDD in April, they couldn't see the returned funds. It's now August, and I'm still waiting. The amount is over $9,000! Has anyone dealt with something like this? Any advice on how to finally get my money?

Ugh, that sounds like a nightmare! I've had issues with EDD before, but nothing this bad. Have you tried reaching out to your local state representative? Sometimes they can help push things along when you're dealing with government agencies.

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't thought of that. Do you know how I would go about contacting my state rep?

Sure thing! Just google '[your city] state representative' and you should find their contact info. Usually they have a form on their website for constituent services. Good luck!

I second this advice! My cousin had a similar issue and her state rep's office got it sorted in like 2 weeks. Def worth a shot 👍

I've been through something similar, and it's incredibly frustrating. Here's what I'd recommend: 1. Document everything: Keep a log of all your calls, emails, and visits to the EDD office. Include dates, times, and names of people you spoke with. 2. File a formal complaint: Go to the EDD website and file an official complaint. This creates a paper trail. 3. Contact the EDD Ombudsman: They're supposed to help resolve complex cases. 4. Reach out to your state representatives: As someone else mentioned, they can often help push things along. 5. Consider legal aid: If all else fails, look into free or low-cost legal services in your area. They might be able to help navigate the system. Don't give up! It's your money, and you're entitled to it. Keep pushing until you get results.

This is solid advice right here 💯 Especially the part about documenting everything. You never know when that info will come in handy.

Have you tried calling EDD directly? I know its a pain to get through, but sometimes talking to a real person can help.

Yeah, I've tried calling so many times. It's almost impossible to get through, and when I do, they just tell me to wait. It's so frustrating.

Calling EDD is the worst! I spent hours on hold last month trying to get through. There's gotta be a better way.

I found a way to get someone on the phone without the wait. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

Yeah, I was skeptical at first too, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

Idk man, paying to talk to a government agency feels wrong. Shouldnt this be free?

I get where you're coming from, but for me, time is money. I'd rather pay $20 than waste a whole day on hold. To each their own tho 🤷‍♂️

This is why I always tell ppl to avoid BofA for EDD stuff. They're notorious for freezing accounts. Sorry youre dealing with this OP.

Fr fr 💯 BofA is the worst. I switched to a credit union and never looked back.

have u tried going to an EDD office in person? sometimes face-to-face convos can get better results

I've been to the office a couple times, but they just tell me to wait and that they can't do anything else. It's so discouraging.

Oof, that sucks. The run-around is real 😩 Hang in there, OP!

This is why we need major reform in our social services. It's ridiculous that hardworking people have to jump through so many hoops to get the benefits they're entitled to. Vote, people!

Hey OP, have you considered reaching out to local media? Sometimes a little public pressure can work wonders. Just a thought!

That's an interesting idea... I hadn't thought about that. I'm a bit nervous about going public, but if nothing else works, I might give it a try.
