EDD SDI sent second request for medical info after already approving my claim - why?

I'm so frustrated right now! I've been on disability since June 2025 after my spinal surgery. Back in August, I switched from my surgeon to my regular doctor for ongoing care, and EDD sent me a DE 2525XX form requesting updated medical info. My doctor filled it out, sent it back, and my benefits continued without issues. But yesterday I got ANOTHER request for medical information in the mail! It's the same exact form. Why would they need this info again when they just got it 3 months ago? My condition hasn't changed, and I'm still under the same doctor's care. I tried calling EDD about 15 times today but either get disconnected or stuck on hold until the office closes. Their website shows my claim as active with no messages or alerts. Has anyone dealt with this before? Do I just have my doctor fill out the form again? I'm worried they'll stop my payments if I don't respond, but this seems like a mistake or redundant request.

This happens more than you'd think. EDD requires updated medical info every 1-3 months depending on your diagnosis, even if nothing has changed. The DE 2525XX form is typically sent quarterly for ongoing conditions, especially for claims lasting 6+ months. Have your doctor complete it asap - same info as before is fine - and submit it within 10 days. It's just their verification process to ensure you still meet disability criteria.

Ugh, I had no idea they did this regularly! The letter didn't mention anything about this being a routine verification. Thank you for explaining. I'll contact my doctor tomorrow to get it filled out ASAP.

And make sure you follow up with your doctor! Mine took FOREVER to send it back and my payments got delayed for 2 weeks. So stressful.

Just to add some clarity here - what you're receiving is actually part of EDD's standard certification schedule. For ongoing disabilities, EDD requires periodic medical recertification at intervals determined by your specific medical condition: - For conditions with expected recovery: every 1-2 months - For chronic/long-term conditions: every 3-4 months - For permanent disabilities with stable symptoms: can be up to 6 months Your August form was likely due to the doctor change, while this one is the standard recertification. The timing makes sense if you've been on claim since June - you're hitting the 5-6 month mark where they commonly verify continued disability. Make sure your doctor includes your updated prognosis and expected return-to-work date (even if it's just an estimate). Submit it within the timeframe specified in the letter (usually 10 days).

Thank you for this detailed explanation! I wish EDD had explained this in their materials. My surgery was pretty major so I'm still several months away from being cleared to work. Will make sure my doctor includes all this info on the form.

THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE PEOPLE GIVE UP!!!! I had the EXACT same thing happen and when I couldn't reach anyone they suspended my payments for 3 WEEKS claiming I "failed to provide requested information" even though they never told me WHY they needed the SAME information AGAIN!! Then they made me get BACKDATED forms from my doctor to cover the gap THEY created!!! The EDD disability department is COMPLETELY BROKEN and they don't care who they hurt!!!!!

While I understand your frustration, this is actually standard procedure. They're required by law to verify continued medical eligibility at regular intervals. The communication could definitely be better though - they should clearly explain why they're requesting additional information and how often to expect these requests.

I spent 2 days trying to reach EDD about a similar issue before discovering Claimyr.com - it got me connected to a real EDD disability rep in about 17 minutes. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd that shows how it works. The agent explained to me that these periodic certification requests are normal but they're supposed to include a letter explaining why they're requesting updated info. Might be worth trying to speak with someone to confirm everything's in order with your claim.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've never heard of this service before. At this point I'm willing to try anything to get some answers. I'll check out that link.

While waiting for a response, you should also check your EDD account online to see if there are any claim notes about why they're requesting additional information. Sometimes the online portal has details that aren't included in the mailed notices. Go to the "Claim Details" section and look for recent updates or status changes. Also check under "Forms and Certifications" to see if there's any explanation there.

I did check online first and that's why I'm so confused. My online portal shows everything as normal - claim active, no messages, no alerts. Nothing indicating they need additional paperwork or there's any issue with my claim. The disconnect between the online system and what they're sending in the mail is really frustrating.

my neighbor worked for edd and said they randomly audit claims too so maybe ur just unlucky and got picked for extra verification?? 🤷‍♀️

This is partially correct. While EDD does conduct claim audits, the form OP received is almost certainly the standard periodic medical certification rather than an audit. Audits typically involve different paperwork and explicitly state they're conducting a review. The DE 2525XX at regular intervals is just part of normal claim maintenance.

When I got that form the second time it was because my doctor wrote the wrong date on the first one! They never told me that was the problem though. I only found out after I finally got through to someone on the phone. So frustrating how they expect you to fix problems without telling you what they are!

That's what I'm worried about! That there's some issue with my previous form but they're not telling me. I'll make sure to review the new form carefully with my doctor before submitting it.

I recommend keeping copies of EVERYTHING you submit to EDD. Take photos of completed forms before sending them in. If you're faxing, keep the confirmation page. If submitting online, take screenshots of the confirmation page. This has saved me multiple times when EDD claimed they never received something I sent.

Great advice. I'd add that sending forms via certified mail with return receipt is also helpful for important documents. It costs a few dollars more but provides proof of delivery that EDD can't dispute.
