EDD SDI pregnancy claim website error: 'Last day worked is required' keeps showing despite entering date

Ugh, super stressed right now at 33 weeks pregnant! Been trying to file my pregnancy disability claim on the EDD SDI website since yesterday and keep hitting this ridiculous technical glitch. Every time I enter the last day I worked (which is literally THIS Friday) and try to continue, it keeps giving me this error message: 'Before your disability began, what was the last day you worked for this employer? Is required.' BUT I ALREADY ENTERED IT!!! I've tried THREE different browsers, clearing cache, different devices... nothing works! The form just refuses to save that particular field. My doctor already completed her portion of the medical certification, and I really don't want this technical nonsense to delay my benefits or affect my 7-day waiting period. My first day of disability is supposed to be the Monday after I stop working. Has anyone else dealt with this exact error message recently? Any workarounds? The thought of trying to call EDD and sitting on hold for hours with my swollen ankles and back pain is just... no thanks. My OB says I might need to stop working earlier than planned due to rising blood pressure, so I REALLY need to get this sorted quickly.

I had a similar issue filing my pregnancy claim about 3 months ago! For me, the problem was actually that when I entered my last day worked, I was putting in a future date (since I was filing in advance). The system won't accept a future date even though logically that's exactly what we need to do when planning for pregnancy disability. Try putting in yesterday's date temporarily just to get past that screen, then call EDD to update the correct date once your claim is in their system.

Thank you! That makes so much sense. I'm filing before my last day worked (which isn't until Friday). I'll try using yesterday's date to get it submitted, then call to fix it. Really appreciate the tip!

3 DAYS of calling?? That sounds like my personal nightmare right now. I'm already having trouble sleeping and the thought of being on hold for hours makes me want to scream.

I work as an HR benefits coordinator and see this issue frequently with our pregnant employees filing for SDI. Here's what's happening: the system has a validation check that won't let you enter a future date as your "last day worked" even though that's exactly what you need to do when filing a pregnancy claim in advance (which is actually recommended). Two solutions: 1. Enter yesterday's date temporarily to get the claim submitted, then call EDD to update it to your actual last day once you've stopped working 2. Wait until after your last day worked to file the claim Important note about the waiting period: The 7-day waiting period begins on your first day of disability (as certified by your doctor), not the day you file. So this website issue won't affect your benefits as long as you get it corrected. However, don't wait too long to file - claims must be submitted within 49 days of your disability date to avoid potential penalties or benefit reductions.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! That makes perfect sense about the future date validation. I'll use yesterday's date to get it through the system. And thanks for clarifying about the waiting period - that was really stressing me out!

Ran into the EXACT same issue last month!!! The whole system is garbage. I tried calling for 2 weeks straight and either got hung up on or was on hold until they closed for the day. Totally ridiculous when you're pregnant and just trying to get what you're entitled to. I finally got through to someone by using Claimyr.com - it basically calls EDD for you and connects you when an agent picks up so you don't have to sit on hold forever. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd It was a lifesaver because the agent was able to submit my claim over the phone and bypass the website error completely. Considering how stressful pregnancy is already (especially late term), it was worth it to not spend days calling.

does this claimyr thing actually work? sounds sketchy tbh

It absolutely does! I was skeptical too but was desperate after so many failed attempts calling EDD. The service just handles the calling/waiting part and then connects you directly to the EDD agent. You still talk to the actual EDD person yourself to handle your claim. Made the whole process SO much less stressful.

The SAME EXACT THING happened to me with my pregnancy claim!!! It kept telling me the last day worked was required when I HAD ALREADY PUT IT IN!!! So maddening!!! What ended up happening was I put in the wrong DATE FORMAT. Try entering it as MM/DD/YYYY instead of selecting from the calendar. For some weird reason the calendar date wasn't registering properly. If that doesn't work, honestly just give up on the website. The EDD systems are notoriously awful. I ended up just mailing in a paper form (DE 2501) which you can download from their website. Yes it's slower but at least it got processed without the technical glitches.

I didn't even know there was a paper option! That might be my backup plan. I'll try the date format suggestion first though. Thanks!

I encountered this same frustrating issue when filing my pregnancy claim last year. What helped me was using a different date entry method - instead of using the calendar picker, I manually typed the date in MM/DD/YYYY format directly into the field. For some reason, that worked when the calendar selection didn't. Regarding your 7-day waiting period concern - don't worry! That's calculated from your first day of disability (which your doctor certified), not from when your claim is processed. So even if there's a delay in processing your claim, you won't lose any benefits. The waiting period will still start on your first official day of disability. If your doctor is concerned about your blood pressure, make sure they document any need for an earlier disability start date. The medical necessity will override your previously planned start date if needed.

Thank you! I'll try typing it manually instead of using the calendar. So good to know about the waiting period calculation too. And yes, my doctor is monitoring my BP closely and will update the disability date if needed.

When I filed my pregnancy disability last year I kept running into website errors too. Somehow my claim went through but then they sent me unemployment paperwork?? Took FOREVER to get it fixed. The EDD system is seriously broken. Good luck girl!

Quick update from my earlier comment - I just realized I didn't mention that even after you get past this error and submit your claim, you'll still need to do your certification when the time comes. Make sure you're certifying for DISABILITY (SDI) and not unemployment by mistake. The systems look similar and I've seen people accidentally certify for the wrong program. Also, since you mentioned your doctor might need you to stop working earlier - that's completely fine! Just have your doctor submit an updated medical certification with the new disability start date if that happens. Your claim can be adjusted.

Thanks for the follow-up! I'll make sure I'm certifying correctly for SDI and not UI. And good to know about the possible earlier stop date process!

UPDATE: Success! I tried entering yesterday's date manually (typing it in instead of using the calendar) and it worked! My claim is now submitted. Thanks everyone for your help! I'm going to call EDD next week after my actual last day worked to update the date. Fingers crossed that goes smoothly too.

Great news! Make sure you keep a record of your claim number and any confirmation emails. When you call to update the date, ask the representative to note in your file that you had to enter an incorrect date due to the website error. This documentation can help prevent any issues later if there's ever a question about the date discrepancy.

So glad you got it working! I'm 31 weeks and dealing with similar EDD website headaches for my upcoming maternity leave. This thread has been super helpful - I had no idea about the future date issue or the manual typing vs calendar picker problem. Definitely saving this for when I file my claim in a few weeks. Hope your call to update the actual date goes smoothly and wishing you the best with the rest of your pregnancy! 💕

Thank you so much! 💕 Yes, definitely save this thread - there are so many helpful workarounds here that I never would have figured out on my own. The manual typing vs calendar picker thing seems to be a common issue that EDD really needs to fix. Good luck with your claim in a few weeks, and I hope you have a much smoother experience than I did! Feel free to reach out if you run into any issues - this community has been amazing.

This is such a frustrating but common issue with the EDD website! I'm currently helping my sister navigate her pregnancy disability claim and we've run into similar technical glitches. The suggestions here about manually typing the date instead of using the calendar picker are spot on - we've found that workaround helps with several different form fields, not just the last day worked section. One additional tip: if you're still having trouble after trying the manual date entry, try using the "tab" key to navigate between fields instead of clicking with your mouse. Sometimes the form validation doesn't trigger properly when you click directly into fields, but tabbing through them seems to register the data correctly. Also want to echo what others said about keeping detailed records of everything - screenshot your confirmation page, save any emails, and write down the date/time you submitted along with any error messages you encountered. This documentation can be really helpful if you need to reference the technical issues when you call to update your information. Hope this helps and congratulations on your upcoming arrival! The EDD system is definitely not user-friendly, but at least there are workarounds when you know what to look for.

Thanks for the additional tips! The tab key navigation is a great suggestion I hadn't thought of. I did end up getting my claim submitted successfully using the manual date entry method, but I'll definitely keep these workarounds in mind for any future EDD interactions. And yes, I screenshotted everything and saved all confirmation info - learned that lesson from other government website experiences! Really appreciate all the helpful advice from everyone in this thread. It's so reassuring to know other people have dealt with the same frustrating technical issues and found ways around them.

I'm so relieved to see this thread! I'm 29 weeks and was planning to file my pregnancy disability claim next week, but now I'm dreading dealing with the EDD website after reading about all these technical issues. It's incredibly frustrating that such an important system for pregnant women has so many glitches. Thank you to everyone who shared workarounds - I'm definitely going to try the manual date entry method instead of the calendar picker, and I'll make sure to enter yesterday's date if I'm filing before my actual last day of work. The tip about using the tab key for navigation is also really helpful. It's reassuring to know that the 7-day waiting period starts from your disability date, not when you file, so these website delays won't actually affect benefits. But honestly, the last thing any of us need during pregnancy is additional stress from broken government systems! Bookmarking this thread for reference when I file. Fingers crossed the EDD gets their act together and fixes these issues soon!

I'm so glad you got your claim submitted successfully! This thread has been incredibly helpful - I'm 30 weeks and was dreading filing my pregnancy disability claim after hearing horror stories about the EDD website. The manual date entry workaround and using yesterday's date when filing in advance are game-changers that I never would have figured out on my own. It's honestly ridiculous that pregnant women have to navigate these technical glitches when we're already dealing with so much. But seeing how supportive this community is and all the practical solutions everyone has shared gives me hope that I'll be able to get through the process when my time comes. Thanks to everyone who contributed tips - I'm definitely saving this entire thread as my EDD filing guide! And congratulations on getting one major stressor off your plate before baby arrives! 💕

Exactly! It's so frustrating that we have to deal with these broken systems when we're already juggling so much during pregnancy. But this community has been absolutely amazing - I went from panic mode to actually getting my claim submitted thanks to everyone's help. The fact that we have to crowdsource solutions to basic government website functionality is pretty ridiculous, but at least we're all here to help each other through it! Save this thread for sure, and feel free to reach out when you file - we've basically created the unofficial EDD pregnancy claim troubleshooting guide here! 😊 Wishing you a smooth filing experience when the time comes!

Just wanted to add another potential workaround that worked for me when I had similar issues with the EDD pregnancy claim form last year. If the manual date entry and tab navigation don't work, try clearing your browser's cache and cookies completely, then restart your browser before attempting to fill out the form again. Sometimes the form gets "stuck" with cached validation errors that prevent it from accepting new data properly. Also, I found that using Chrome in incognito mode helped bypass some of the persistent form errors. It's like starting with a completely clean slate without any stored form data that might be causing conflicts. The whole EDD system is definitely a nightmare to navigate, especially when you're already stressed about preparing for baby's arrival. But don't give up - there are always workarounds, and this community is proof that we can figure them out together! Glad you got your claim submitted successfully!

These are great additional technical tips! The incognito mode suggestion is brilliant - I never would have thought of that but it makes total sense that cached data could be causing form conflicts. I wish I had tried that before spending hours troubleshooting! Definitely adding these to my mental toolkit for any future EDD interactions. It's amazing how many creative workarounds this community has discovered for what should be basic website functionality. Thanks for sharing your experience - every little tip helps make this process less stressful for other pregnant mamas!

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now at 35 weeks! Thank you so much for posting this and to everyone who shared solutions. I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why the form keeps rejecting my last day worked even though I clearly entered it. The future date validation issue makes perfect sense - of course the system would have problems with that logic even though it's exactly what we need to do for pregnancy planning. I'm going to try the manual date entry method with yesterday's date to get it submitted, then call to correct it later. Really appreciate everyone breaking down the technical workarounds and clarifying that the waiting period won't be affected by filing delays. This thread is like finding gold when you're drowning in EDD bureaucracy! Has anyone had success getting through to EDD by phone recently, or is it still the multi-hour hold nightmare? Trying to mentally prepare for that part of the process.
