EDD SDI payment authorized but missing for 3 weeks - automated system shows no record
I've been on disability since mid-December after a pretty serious back injury. My claim was initially denied because my employer reported incorrect wage information, and it took nearly 2.5 months to get everything straightened out. According to my online account, my payment was finally authorized on January 8th, 2025, but here I am 3 weeks later with NOTHING showing up on my BofA card or in the mail. When I call the automated system and enter my SSN, it says "no payment records found matching this SSN" which is terrifying because the online system clearly shows the payment was approved! I've called EDD about 40 times but can't get through to anyone. I contacted my state Senator's office two weeks ago but they're moving super slow. I'm about to be evicted and have no idea what to do next. Has anyone dealt with this twilight zone situation where a payment shows as authorized online but then disappears into thin air?

•No, I haven't moved at all. I've been at the same address for 3 years. Did you do anything special to get it fixed or did it just randomly show up one day?

I went through something similar and it turned out my employer disputed something after the approval. Check if you got any mail about this maybe? Sometimes they mail important notices instead of putting them online.

•That's a good point. My employer has been a nightmare through this whole process - they initially reported that I hadn't worked enough quarters to qualify which was totally false. I'll dig through my mail pile again to make sure I didn't miss anything.

This discrepancy between the online system and the phone system usually indicates there's an identity verification issue or payment processing hold. When a payment is authorized but not released, it's typically due to one of these scenarios: 1. Identity verification flag that wasn't cleared properly 2. Address verification issue (even if you haven't moved) 3. Bank of America card activation problem 4. Payment method preference conflict (direct deposit vs. card) 5. System synchronization delay between approval and disbursement The fastest solution is to speak directly with an SDI representative. They can see exactly what's holding up your payment and clear it immediately in most cases. When your financial situation is this urgent, you can't afford to wait on the Senator's office.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation. It sounds like #1 or #5 might be the issue. How in the world do I actually get through to a representative though? I've tried calling at exactly 8am when they open and still can't get through.

Try using Claimyr to reach an EDD agent. I was in the same boat last month - payment authorized but nothing showing up for weeks. Called for days with no luck. Then I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an actual EDD agent in about 20 minutes. The agent found that my payment was stuck in some weird processing limbo and fixed it on the spot. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd With eviction on the line, it's worth trying anything that can get you to an actual human who can help.

•Thank you! I'm desperate at this point so I'll try anything. Just checked out the video and it looks pretty straightforward. I'll give it a shot tomorrow morning.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP!!!! they "authorize" payments then make them IMPOSSIBLE to actually receive hoping you'll just go back to work or DIE i guess. I had THREE payments "authorized" that I NEVER received last year and spent MONTHS calling. Senator's office is USELESS - they just send a form email to the same people not answering phones!!!!

•While the system definitely has problems, this isn't accurate. Authorized payments do eventually process in most cases. The issue is usually technical rather than intentional obstruction. Let's focus on helping OP find a solution rather than adding to their stress.

Have you checked if your BofA card is active? Sometimes the payment goes through but the card is inactive or expired. That happened to my brother when he was on disability.

•Yes, I've checked the card status and it's active. I even called BofA directly and they confirmed there haven't been any payments sent to the card in the last 6 months.

I'm a disability advocate and see this situation frequently. When a payment shows as authorized but doesn't appear, it's almost always one of these specific technical issues: 1. The payment batch job failed to complete properly (common system error) 2. There's a secondary review flag that wasn't clearly communicated 3. There's a mismatch between your identity verification documents In January 2025, EDD updated their payment processing system, and we've seen an increase in these authorization-without-payment issues. You need to speak with an SDI specialist who can access the payment processing module, not just a general EDD representative. When you do reach someone, specifically ask them to: 1. Check for any identity verification holds 2. Verify your payment method preferences match what's in the system 3. Check if your payment is caught in the "post-authorization review" queue 4. Initiate a manual payment release if necessary Keep documentation of all your calls and attempts. If you do ultimately need to escalate to your Assembly member or Senator, having this documentation will speed up their intervention.

•Thank you so much for this detailed information! I had no idea about the system update in January - that timing aligns perfectly with my issue. I'll definitely ask about these specific things when I get through to someone. I've been documenting everything so far, including screenshots of the authorization on my account.

Just checking back - were you able to get through to someone? Did they resolve your payment issue?

•Yes! I used Claimyr this morning and got through to a rep in about 25 minutes. You were right - my payment was stuck in what they called a "post-authorization review queue" because of the previous issues with my employer. The representative was able to manually release the payment and said I should see it on my card within 24-48 hours. She also expedited the processing of my other pending payments. Such a relief!!!

wait whats the difference between SDI and disability? i thought they were the same thing?? also can u apply for unemployment while waiting for disability to pay you??

•SDI (State Disability Insurance) is California's disability program. So they are the same thing in California. And no, you cannot collect unemployment while on disability - they're mutually exclusive because unemployment requires you to certify that you're able to work, while disability is based on being unable to work.

So glad to hear you got it resolved! For future reference for anyone reading this thread - once a payment shows as authorized but doesn't appear after 10 business days, always call. Don't wait 3 weeks like the original poster had to!

This is such a common issue unfortunately! I went through something similar last year where my payment was authorized but stuck for weeks. The key thing that worked for me was being very specific about what I needed when I finally got through to someone. I told them exactly what @Jungleboo Soletrain mentioned - to check the post-authorization review queue. Turns out there was a flag on my account from when I had to submit additional medical documentation months earlier that never got cleared. The rep was able to clear it immediately and my payment showed up the next day. Really glad you got it sorted out @Kendrick Webb - that must have been incredibly stressful with eviction hanging over you!

•That's such a helpful tip about being specific when you call! I'm new to dealing with EDD/SDI and didn't realize how important it is to know exactly what to ask for. It sounds like these "flags" on accounts are way more common than they should be. I'm so relieved @Kendrick Webb got this resolved - 3 weeks without payment while facing eviction sounds absolutely terrifying. This whole thread has been really educational about what to expect if I ever run into similar issues. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

As someone who's been following this community for a while, I wanted to jump in because this situation is unfortunately way too common. @Kendrick Webb I'm so glad you were able to get this resolved! Your experience really highlights how broken the system can be - having an authorized payment just disappear into limbo for 3 weeks is unacceptable, especially when people are facing eviction. What really strikes me is how many different technical issues can cause this same problem. Reading through everyone's responses, it seems like there are so many potential failure points in the system - identity verification flags, payment processing errors, employer disputes, system updates, etc. It's like a minefield that disabled people have to navigate while they're already dealing with health issues and financial stress. The fact that @Jungleboo Soletrain mentioned the January 2025 system update is really concerning. If EDD knew they were implementing changes that could cause payment delays, they should have communicated that to claimants and had better support processes in place. Instead, people like you are left to figure it out on their own while facing eviction. Thanks to everyone who shared solutions like Claimyr and specific questions to ask representatives. This thread is going to be really valuable for other people who find themselves in similar situations.

•@CosmicCadet You've really captured what makes this whole situation so frustrating. I'm new to this community but have been lurking and reading similar stories, and it's honestly shocking how many people go through this exact same nightmare. The fact that there can be so many different technical failures that all result in the same outcome - authorized payments that just vanish - really shows how poorly designed the system is. What bothers me most is that EDD clearly knows these issues exist (like the January system update @Jungleboo Soletrain mentioned but) they don t'proactively communicate with claimants or have better processes to catch these problems before people are left hanging for weeks. When you re'already dealing with a disability and can t'work, the last thing you need is to become a detective trying to figure out why your approved benefits disappeared. This thread has been incredibly educational for me as someone who might need to navigate this system someday. I m'bookmarking all the specific questions to ask representatives and the Claimyr suggestion. It s'sad that we need these workarounds, but I m'grateful people like you and others here share this knowledge to help each other out.

This whole thread is such a perfect example of why we need this community. @Kendrick Webb's situation - having an approved payment just vanish for 3 weeks while facing eviction - is absolutely maddening, but the collective knowledge everyone shared here is incredible. From @Hattie Carson mentioning address flags to @TillyCombatwarrior sharing the Claimyr solution to @Jungleboo Soletrain's detailed breakdown of the technical issues and what specific questions to ask - this is exactly the kind of peer support that makes the difference between someone giving up and actually getting their benefits. What really stands out to me is how many different system failures can cause the same "authorized but missing" problem. It's like EDD has created this complex maze where payments can get stuck at multiple different points, but they don't give claimants any visibility into where things went wrong or how to fix it. The fact that the automated phone system showed "no payment records" while the online account showed authorization is particularly cruel - it makes people think their benefits were never approved in the first place. I'm bookmarking this entire thread as a resource. The step-by-step troubleshooting advice and specific questions to ask representatives could save someone weeks of stress and financial hardship. Thank you all for turning what started as one person's nightmare into a comprehensive guide for others who might face the same issue.
