EDD SDI claim disappeared from system after approval - can't reach anyone

I'm seriously at my wit's end with EDD. My disability claim was approved back in January and I received confirmation with a receipt number and claim ID. But I haven't seen a SINGLE PAYMENT since then! I've been checking my account religiously and for 3 months there was no update - the claim just showed as 'approved' with no payment info. Now when I logged in yesterday, the system says there's NO RECORD of my claim at all! It's completely vanished even though I have the receipt and claim number right in front of me. I've been calling EDD literally 20-30 times a day for the past month and either get disconnected immediately or sit on hold for hours until the office closes. I'm drowning in bills and about to lose my apartment. Has anyone else had their approved claim completely disappear from the system? Is there some secret backdoor number to actually reach a human? I'm desperate for help!

omg the same thing happened to my cousin last year! she ended up having to reapply and start the whole process all over again because they lost her paperwork. so frustrating. did you try sending a message through the SDI online portal?

Yes! I've sent at least 6 messages through the portal and haven't gotten a single response. I can't believe I might have to start over - my doctor is already annoyed about having to fill out all those forms the first time around.

This is unfortunately happening a lot since they updated their system. What likely happened is your claim was flagged for identity verification but the notice wasn't sent correctly. Don't reapply yet - that can cause more problems. You need to: 1. Take screenshots of any approval notices you received 2. Gather your original claim number, receipt number, and any correspondence 3. Try calling right when they open at 8:00am - that's when wait times are shortest 4. If you can't get through on the main line, try the technical support line and explain the situation 5. As a last resort, contact your state representative's office - they have EDD liaisons who can help The good news is that once this is fixed, you'll receive all back payments you're owed. Your claim is probably still in the system, just not visible to you for technical reasons.

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I never thought about contacting my state rep. I've been calling at random times throughout the day, so I'll definitely try right at 8am tomorrow. Do you think I should keep sending messages through the portal too?

Yes, continue sending messages through the portal as it creates a paper trail, but limit to once a week with clear subject lines like "Approved Claim Missing From System - Urgent." Document everything, including dates/times of your calls. The technical support line is sometimes easier to reach than the claims line.

Ugh the EDD disability system is a NIGHTMARE. I had to call 65+ times before getting through last month!!! The worst part is they act like its YOUR fault when THEIR system messes up. Keep trying to call, its literally the only way to fix anything with them.

i waited 2.5 hrs on hold last week and then they hung up on me lol

Have you tried using Claimyr? I was in a similar situation last year - approved claim but no payments for almost 2 months. Called for weeks and couldn't get through. Someone on here recommended Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd The agent I spoke with found that my claim had been flagged for additional medical review but nobody had contacted me about it. They pushed it through manually and I had my backpay within a week.

Thank you! I've never heard of this service before. I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Just watched the video and it seems pretty straightforward. I'll give it a shot tomorrow morning!

is that service legit? seems kinda sketchy that you have to pay to talk to a government agency...

I work in healthcare and deal with SDI all the time for my patients. What you're describing sounds like a technical glitch that happened during their quarterly system maintenance. Don't start a new application - that will definitely cause problems and potential overpayment issues later. From what I've seen, claims don't actually disappear from their internal system, even if they vanish from your online portal. The agent should be able to locate your claim using your SSN and claim number. When you do get through, ask them to check if your claim was moved to "manual processing" status, which removes it from the online portal but keeps it active internally. Also request that they check if there are any "stop payments" or "identity verification" flags on your account. Those are the two most common reasons why approved claims don't pay out.

This is really helpful information. I had a claim go into manual processing last year and it also disappeared from my online view. Once I finally reached someone, they fixed it pretty quickly.

UPDATE: I used Claimyr this morning and actually got through to an EDD representative in about 25 minutes! The agent found my claim immediately - turns out it was flagged for "quarterly income verification" but the notice was sent to my old address (even though I updated my address months ago). She removed the hold and processed all my back payments on the spot. The money should be on my card within 24-48 hours. She also added a note to my file about the address issue so it doesn't happen again. Thanks everyone for your advice - especially about Claimyr. That service was a lifesaver!

That's great news! So glad you got it resolved. Make sure to double-check that your address is updated correctly in all parts of your EDD profile - sometimes the address updates in one system but not another. Worth verifying while you have momentum.

THANK GOD!! Now just watch them like a hawk because they might randomly stop payments again for no reason. That's what happened to me TWICE during my disability claim.

they did this to me last year too! the whole system is broken honestly

It really is! I can't believe how difficult they make it to get the benefits we're entitled to. Did you eventually get your payments?

0 coins

yeah after like 5 months of fighting with them. got all my backpay in one lump sum. good luck!

Wow, what a rollercoaster! I'm so relieved you got this resolved, Olivia. Your story really highlights how broken the EDD system can be - it's ridiculous that approved claims can just vanish from the portal without any notification. I'm bookmarking this thread because the advice about calling right at 8am, contacting state reps, and using services like Claimyr could be invaluable if I ever face a similar situation. It's honestly shameful that people have to jump through so many hoops just to get the benefits they're legally entitled to. Hopefully your experience helps other folks who find themselves in the same nightmare situation!

Absolutely agree! This whole thread should be required reading for anyone dealing with EDD disability claims. I'm new to this community but have been lurking for a while, and stories like Olivia's really show the value of having a support network when navigating these impossible government systems. It's crazy that we have to crowdsource solutions because the official channels are so broken. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and advice - it's clear this community really looks out for each other!

This is exactly the kind of post that should be pinned at the top of this community! As someone who's dealt with EDD nightmares myself, I can't stress enough how important it is to document EVERYTHING - screenshots, confirmation numbers, dates of calls, etc. The fact that your claim completely disappeared from the system but you had all your documentation saved your case. For anyone else reading this, also consider filing a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs if you're getting nowhere with EDD directly. They have an ombudsman program that can sometimes cut through the red tape. So glad you got your backpay, Olivia - stories like yours give the rest of us hope that these issues can eventually be resolved!

I couldn't agree more about documenting everything! I'm relatively new to dealing with EDD but have been reading through posts here to prepare myself for potential issues. The documentation advice is gold - I've already started screenshotting every single page and confirmation I get from their system. It's honestly terrifying how easily these claims can just vanish into thin air. Does anyone know if there's a specific format we should use when documenting our interactions, or is it just a matter of keeping detailed records? I'm trying to be proactive since it seems like it's not a matter of IF something will go wrong with EDD, but WHEN.
