EDD SDI automatic payments confusion - no payment since March 31st despite extension

My disability claim was just extended from April 10th to May 15th (doctor submitted all paperwork last week), but something weird is happening with my payments. My account suddenly shows 'automatic payments' status, but I haven't received anything since March 31st, which is now almost 3 weeks ago! No explanation about when my next payment will process. Has this 'automatic payments' status happened to anyone else after an extension was approved? Should I be worried? My rent is due in a week and I'm starting to panic. The extension approval letter doesn't mention anything about payment delays either.

same thing happened 2 my husband last year. the automatic payments thing is good but takes forever 2 actually start. think it took like 10 days after his status changed.

10 days!? It's already been nearly 3 weeks since my last payment though...did your husband have to call them to get it fixed?

The "automatic payments" status is actually a good thing - it means they've approved your continued certification without requiring you to submit bi-weekly forms. However, there's often a processing gap between your last regular payment and when the automatic payments begin. This happens especially when there's an extension involved. I'd recommend calling EDD directly since it's been 3 weeks - that's longer than normal. Be prepared to wait though, their phone lines are notoriously difficult to get through.

LOL good luck CALLING them!!! I spent THREE DAYS trying to get through last month. Literally hundreds of calls and they hang up on you if the queue is full. The system is COMPLETELY BROKEN!!!!

You might be caught in the processing gap! When I had my extension approved in February, there was almost a month delay between my regular payments and when the automatic ones started. I wish they'd explain this better! The good news is that they WILL backpay you for all those missed weeks once it starts processing again. One thing that helped me was sending a message through the SDI Online portal asking for a status update. Sometimes that can prompt them to look at your claim.

I sent a message through the portal last week but haven't heard back yet. It's so frustrating! Did your backpay come as one lump sum or separate payments?

Mine came as one big lump sum payment for all the weeks I missed. Keep checking your payment history daily - sometimes they process it without notifying you. And definitely keep trying to contact them!

This is a common issue with extensions. When your claim transitions from regular certification to automatic payments following an extension, there's often a processing delay that can last 2-3 weeks. The system needs to verify there's no overlap between your original claim and extension periods. Your options are: 1. Continue waiting (payments will be retroactive) 2. Contact EDD through SDI Online messaging system 3. Call the SDI office directly at 1-800-480-3287 4. Ask your doctor's office to verify the extension was properly submitted If you've already waited 3 weeks and sent a message with no response, calling is your best option. When you call, ask specifically about the "payment processing status for your disability extension" and request they check if there are any issues flagged on your account.

do we kno if there's an actual problem with the extension or is this just normal waiting time? i had to wait almst a month once for them to process my payments after maternity leave extension but they did eventually pay me everything. the whole systems a mess tbh

Update: Just wanted to let everyone know I finally got through to EDD this morning! The agent said there was a "processing flag" on my account because my doctor submitted the extension paperwork a few days late (even though it was still before my original end date). They've cleared the flag and I should receive all my backpay within 48 hours. Thank you all for your help and suggestions!

That's great news! Thanks for updating us. This is a good reminder for everyone that even small paperwork timing issues can cause payment delays. Glad you got it resolved!

So glad you got this resolved! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - my extension was approved but I haven't seen any payments in 2 weeks. Your post gives me hope that it's just a processing issue. Quick question - when you called, did you use the 1-800-480-3287 number that Justin mentioned? And any tips for actually getting through? I've been trying for days but keep getting the busy signal.

Yes, I used that exact number! Here's what worked for me - call right at 8am when they open, and if you get the busy signal, hang up and immediately redial. Don't wait between calls. It took me about 45 minutes of constant redialing but I finally got through to the queue. Once you're in the queue it's about a 30-45 minute wait. Also have your claim number and all your paperwork ready because they'll ask for specific dates and details. Good luck!
