EDD Claim Disallowed - No Reason Given. What Now?
Hey everyone, I just got a notice saying my claim is disallowed. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do next? I'm freaking out a little bit here.

Ugh, that sucks. I've been there before. Did they give you any reason for why it was disallowed?

•Not really. The notice was pretty vague. Just said something about not meeting eligibility requirements. I'm so confused 😕

•Classic EDD move. They love to keep us in the dark. You'll probably need to call them to get more info. Good luck getting through tho 🙄

•Have you checked your online account? Sometimes there's more details there that aren't in the mailed notice.

I had this happen to me last year. Here's what I did: 1. Don't panic. It's not necessarily the end of the road. 2. Review all your documents to make sure you didn't make any mistakes on your application. 3. File an appeal ASAP. You usually have 30 days from the date on the notice. 4. Try to get through to EDD on the phone. They might be able to explain why it was disallowed and maybe even fix it without an appeal. 5. If you can't get through, consider contacting your local assemblyperson's office. They can sometimes help. 6. Keep certifying for benefits while you appeal, just in case. Hang in there! The system is frustrating but don't give up.

•Thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll definitely start working on an appeal. Do you know how long the appeal process usually takes?

•It can vary a lot, unfortunately. Mine took about 2 months, but I've heard of some taking up to 6 months. The important thing is to get it filed ASAP and then be patient (I know, easier said than done).

•This is great advice. I'd add that keeping a detailed log of all your interactions with EDD can be super helpful during the appeal process.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

•I've used it twice now. It's a lifesaver when you really need to talk to someone at EDD.

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😡

•I get it, but when you're dealing with thousands of dollars in benefits, sometimes you gotta spend a little to get results. It beats calling for days on end.

Have you checked if there were any recent changes to eligibility requirements? Sometimes they update stuff and don't tell anyone 🙄

•I haven't, but that's a good idea. Do you know where I can find the most up-to-date info?

•Try the EDD website, but honestly, it's usually out of date. Your best bet might be to check recent posts in this sub or ask your local unemployment office.

Quick question - did you work any part-time jobs or have any income while claiming benefits? That can sometimes trigger a disallowance if not reported correctly.

Ryder Everingham
•No, I haven't had any income since I filed. That's why I'm so confused about this whole thing.

•Hmm, that is weird then. Definitely push for more info when you get in touch with them. Somethings not adding up here.

Hey, I know this sucks, but don't lose hope. I had my claim disallowed twice before finally getting approved. Keep pushing and don't be afraid to get loud if you need to. You got this! 💪

Sorry to hear about your situation! I went through something similar a few months ago. In my case, it turned out there was an issue with my medical documentation - apparently one of my doctor's forms wasn't filled out completely. The crazy thing is, I had to dig through my online account and call multiple times before anyone would tell me the specific problem. My advice: - Screenshot everything in your online account - Request a detailed explanation in writing of why you were disallowed - Check if any of your medical forms had missing signatures or dates - Don't wait - start the appeal process immediately even if you're still trying to figure out what went wrong The whole system is designed to be confusing and make you give up. Don't let them win! Keep us posted on how it goes.
