EDD Appeal Status: How long to hear back? (California)

Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out the status of my EDD appeal. I filed it a while back and I'm getting anxious about whether it's been approved or denied. Has anyone here gone through the appeal process recently? How long did it take for you to hear back? I'm in California if that makes a difference. Any tips on what I should ask when I finally get through to someone on the phone?

Ugh, the EDD appeal process is such a nightmare. I went through it last year and it took FOREVER. Like, we're talking months here. My advice? Be prepared to wait, and then wait some more. 🙄

Months?! Are you kidding me? That's insane. How are people supposed to survive while waiting that long?

I know, right? It's ridiculous. I had to borrow money from family just to get by. The system is totally broken.

Same boat here. Took about 4 months for me. Felt like an eternity 😩

When you finally get someone on the phone, make sure to ask these questions: 1. Has my appeal been reviewed yet? 2. What's the current status? 3. Do you need any additional info from me? 4. Is there an estimated timeframe for a decision? Write down the answers and get the name of who you spoke with. It helps to have a paper trail.

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll definitely use these questions when I call.

Great advice! I'd also add: ask if there's a way to check the status online or if they can send you any updates via email.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20? Idk man, seems kinda steep just to talk to someone...

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

Anybody else feel like the EDD is just playing games with us at this point? It's like they WANT us to give up 🤡

Hey OP, have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help speed things up with EDD. Worth a shot!

I hadn't even thought of that! How do I find out who my assembly member is?

Just google "find my california assembly member" and you'll get a website where you can enter your address. They usually have a form for EDD help on their website.

Hang in there, OP! I know it's tough, but try to stay positive. My appeal took about 2 months, but it was eventually approved. Don't lose hope! ❤️
