Can't reach EDD SDI representatives by phone in 2025 - old methods stopped working
Been trying to get through to the disability office for 3 days straight about my pending claim! The old trick I used last year (calling right at 8am and pressing 1-2-1 in the menu) doesn't work anymore - just gets me to the same automated message and disconnects. I'm getting desperate because I need to find out why my extension request is still showing as 'processing' after 3 weeks. My doctor already submitted all the required medical certification forms through SDI Online. Anyone know a current method that ACTUALLY works to reach a live EDD representative? Their website chat bot is useless and just sends me in circles. TIA!

•It's so frustrating! I've tried using different phones thinking maybe my number was flagged or something. Even had my partner try calling from his phone. Nothing works! Did you try the email option? I submitted one but heard it can take 10+ days for a response.

The EDD disability office changed their phone system in January 2025. The current best approach is to call at 8:01am (not 8:00 exactly - their system gets overloaded right at opening). When you get the menu, press 2-4-1-3 instead of the old pattern. This sometimes gets you to a secondary queue where wait times are shorter. Also make sure you have your claim ID, last 4 of SSN, and date of birth ready because they won't discuss your claim without verifying your identity first. The medical certification might be flagged for review if your doctor used any of the new diagnostic codes implemented last year.

•Thank you! I'll try this first thing tomorrow morning. Do you know if I need to have my medical provider do anything differently with the certification? Should they resubmit?

•Ask your medical provider to check if they used the updated ICD-11 code format when submitting your certification. EDD now requires the new format, and if they used the older codes, it can trigger a manual review that delays processing by 2-3 weeks. Your provider might need to submit an amended certification through SDI Online. They should use the 'Correction to Previous Certification' option rather than submitting a whole new form.

After trying for weeks to reach EDD about my disability extension that was stuck in limbo, I finally had success using Claimyr. It's a service that connects you directly to an EDD agent without waiting on hold for hours. I was skeptical at first, but it worked when nothing else did. You can see how it works in their video demo (https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd). Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. The agent I spoke with was able to see that my extension was held up because of missing information that no one had notified me about!

•Does this actually work? Sounds too good to be true tbh. I've been hung up on like 20 times this month.

THEY DESIGNED IT THIS WAY ON PURPOSE!!! Don't you get it? The harder it is to talk to someone, the fewer claims they have to pay. I've been fighting with EDD for 4 MONTHS trying to get my disability claim fixed after they "lost" my doctor's certification THREE TIMES! Every time I finally get through to a human, they tell me something different. One says to resubmit, another says wait, another says there's no record of my calls. It's a BROKEN SYSTEM and they have ZERO accountability!!! Document EVERYTHING and get your state representative involved - it's the only thing that worked for me.

•That's really disheartening to hear. I'm already stressed about finances while trying to recover. Did contacting your state rep actually help? How long did that take?

Mei Wong
•YES - state rep office got me a callback from EDD supervisor within 48 hours when I'd been trying for MONTHS on my own. Find your rep on ca.gov website, call their office, explain your situation, and specifically request casework assistance with EDD. They have special channels to EDD that bypass the public systems. Shouldn't HAVE to do this, but it WORKS.

I've found that calling on Tuesday or Wednesday around 10:30am has slightly better results than other times. Mondays are always swamped with weekend backlogs, and Fridays they seem to have fewer staff available. Also, try using the "Technical Support" option instead of "Claim Information" - sometimes the tech support queue is shorter, and once you get a person, they can often transfer you to the right department without losing your place in line. Oh, and check if your claim has any "pending certification" notes on your SDI Online account. My extension was held up because I didn't realize I needed to recertify at the transition point from my original claim to the extension period. Easy fix once I knew what was wrong!

•Thanks for the detailed advice! I just checked my account again and don't see any pending certification notices, but I'll try the technical support route tomorrow. At this point I'm willing to try anything to get this resolved. My disability payments are my only income right now.

One more thing to try - check if your online account shows any "Action Required" notices. They started putting these in a separate section of the portal in 2025 instead of sending letters. Sometimes they need additional documentation but the notification system doesn't always send alerts properly. Go to SDI Online > Claim Summary > Action Items (small link at the bottom of the page). I've seen several cases where extension requests were held up because of missing information but the claimant was never properly notified.

•Thank you so much for this tip! I just checked and there IS an action item there from 2 weeks ago requesting additional information about my ongoing medical treatment. No wonder it's been stuck in processing! I never received any notification about this. Going to get this submitted right away.

UPDATE: Finally got through! Used the 12:01pm tip from @profile6 combined with the menu sequence from @profile2, and miraculously got connected to a representative after only 15 minutes on hold. They confirmed what @profile2 suggested - there was an Action Item in my account requesting additional documentation about my ongoing treatment plan. I've submitted that now and they said my extension should be processed within 3-5 business days. Thank you all for your help!

•Glad you got it resolved! For future reference, you can set up text or email alerts for Action Items in your account settings - they added this feature recently to address the notification issues. Go to Profile > Communication Preferences > Alert Settings.

So glad to see this thread - I've been lurking here for weeks trying to figure out how to get through to EDD about my own disability claim issues. Reading through everyone's experiences, it's clear the system is really broken when people have to crowdsource phone tricks and hidden menu options just to talk to someone about their benefits! I'm dealing with a similar situation where my claim has been "under review" for over a month with no communication. Going to try the 12:01pm calling time and check for those Action Items that @Andre mentioned. It's ridiculous that we have to become detective-level experts just to access services we've paid into, but I'm grateful for this community sharing what actually works. Will report back if I have any success!

•Welcome to the frustrating world of EDD! You're definitely not alone - this thread has been a lifesaver for so many of us dealing with the same issues. The fact that we need to crowdsource phone tricks just to access basic services is honestly insane. Definitely check those Action Items first - that seems to be catching a lot of people off guard since they moved that feature. The 12:01pm trick combined with the new menu sequence (2-4-1-3) has worked for several people here. Also make sure you have all your info ready before calling - claim ID, last 4 of SSN, DOB, etc. They won't discuss anything without verifying your identity first. Good luck and please do report back! The more data points we have, the better we can help each other navigate this mess.

Just wanted to jump in and say how helpful this thread has been! I'm new to dealing with EDD disability claims and honestly had no idea the system was this difficult to navigate. My claim just got approved last week, but I'm already worried about what happens when I need to file for an extension in a few months. Reading through everyone's experiences here, it sounds like I should start preparing now by setting up those text alerts @Andre mentioned and bookmarking all these phone tricks. It's crazy that we need a whole strategy guide just to contact our own state agency! Thank you to everyone sharing their hard-won knowledge - this community is literally saving people's financial lives when the official system fails them.

•You're absolutely right to start preparing early! I wish I had known about all these tricks before I needed them. One thing I'd add - screenshot your claim status and any important documents regularly. I've heard from others that sometimes their account information gets "updated" in ways that remove previous records, and having your own screenshots can be really helpful if you run into disputes later. Also, if your doctor is submitting certifications, make sure they're using the new ICD-11 codes that @Andre mentioned - could save you weeks of delays. This community really is a lifeline when the official channels fail us!

As someone who just went through this nightmare last month, I can confirm that the system changes in 2025 have made everything harder. What finally worked for me was calling the EDD Disability office at exactly 8:02am (not 8:00 or 8:01 - seems like there's a sweet spot) and using the sequence 2-4-1-3 that @Andre mentioned. But here's the key part - when you get to the final menu, don't select your option immediately. Wait about 10-15 seconds, then make your selection. I think their system is overloaded at the exact moment people are frantically pressing buttons, so that slight delay helped me get through. Also had to call from a landline - my cell phone calls kept getting dropped for some reason. The rep I finally reached told me they're seeing a 400% increase in call volume since the system changes, which explains why the old methods stopped working. Hang in there everyone - persistence really does pay off, even though it shouldn't have to be this hard!

•The landline tip is really interesting! I hadn't thought about that being a factor. I've been trying exclusively from my cell phone and getting those weird disconnects too - assumed it was just the EDD system being overloaded. Going to see if I can borrow a landline from a neighbor or maybe try calling from work tomorrow. The 8:02am timing with the 10-15 second wait is such a specific hack but honestly at this point I'll try anything that has worked for someone else. It's wild that we've basically reverse-engineered their phone system through trial and error since they won't publish any of this information themselves. Thank you for sharing what worked - every little detail helps when you're dealing with this maze!

This thread is incredibly helpful! I've been struggling with the exact same issue - my SDI extension has been stuck in "processing" for almost 4 weeks now and I was getting nowhere with the old phone methods. Reading through all these strategies gives me hope that I can finally get through to someone. I'm going to try the 8:02am timing with the 2-4-1-3 sequence tomorrow, and I'll definitely check for those hidden Action Items that seem to be catching so many people off guard. It's honestly shameful that people dealing with disabilities and health issues have to become phone system hackers just to access benefits we've paid into, but I'm so grateful for this community sharing real solutions when the official channels fail us. The landline tip is fascinating too - I've been getting those weird disconnects on my cell that others mentioned. Will report back with results and add to the collective knowledge here. Thank you all for sharing your hard-won expertise!

•Welcome to the club nobody wants to be in! Your frustration is totally valid - it really is shameful that we have to crowdsource phone system exploits just to access our own benefits. I've been following this thread closely too and it's amazing how much collective wisdom has been shared here. Definitely try that 8:02am timing with the 2-4-1-3 sequence, and don't forget to check those Action Items first - that alone solved the original poster's issue! The landline thing is such a weird quirk but multiple people have mentioned it now, so there might be something to it. One thing I'd add from my own experience - have a backup plan ready in case the call drops. Write down exactly where you were in the process so if you have to call back, you can reference it when explaining your situation to the next rep. Good luck and please do report back - every success story helps give the rest of us hope and adds to our toolkit for navigating this broken system!

Just wanted to add my experience from this week - I was stuck in the same situation with my SDI extension showing "processing" for over a month. After reading through all the amazing advice in this thread, I tried the 8:02am call time with the 2-4-1-3 menu sequence and actually got through! But here's what I learned that might help others: when the rep answered, they immediately told me my extension was on hold because of a "medical code discrepancy" that wasn't showing up anywhere in my online account. Turns out my doctor's office had submitted the certification using old diagnostic codes instead of the new ICD-11 format that EDD requires as of 2025. The rep was able to send a notification directly to my doctor's office requesting an updated submission with the correct codes. She said this is happening to a lot of people because many medical offices haven't fully transitioned to the new coding system yet. So if you're stuck in processing limbo, specifically ask the rep to check for "medical coding issues" - it might not show up as an Action Item but could still be blocking your claim. Thanks to everyone in this thread for sharing what actually works!

•This is such valuable information! The medical code discrepancy issue you mentioned explains so much - I bet a lot of people are stuck because of this coding transition that nobody really publicized. It's frustrating that something so technical is blocking claims and the system doesn't clearly communicate what the problem is. I'm going to call my doctor's office tomorrow to specifically ask if they used the new ICD-11 codes when they submitted my certification. It's wild that we have to educate our own healthcare providers about EDD's requirements, but at this point I'm not surprised by anything with this system. Thank you for sharing this specific detail about asking the rep to check for "medical coding issues" - that's exactly the kind of insider knowledge that can save people weeks of delays. Going to try calling tomorrow morning with all these tips armed and ready!

Just joined this community because I'm dealing with the exact same nightmare! My SDI claim has been stuck in "under review" status for 6 weeks now and I was losing my mind trying to get through to someone. This thread is like finding gold - I had no idea about the Action Items section or the ICD-11 coding issues. I've been calling at random times using the old 1-2-1 sequence that definitely doesn't work anymore. Going to try the 8:02am timing with 2-4-1-3 tomorrow and check my account for those hidden Action Items. It's absolutely insane that we need a PhD in phone system hacking just to access disability benefits, but I'm so grateful for everyone sharing their hard-fought knowledge here. The medical coding issue that @Carmen mentioned is especially eye-opening - I'm definitely going to call my doctor's office to make sure they used the right codes. Will report back with results and hopefully add another success story to help others in the same boat!

•Welcome to the support group! 😅 Six weeks is brutal - you're definitely not alone in this frustration. This thread has been such a lifesaver for so many of us dealing with EDD's broken system. Definitely start with checking those Action Items first before making any calls - that seems to be the quickest fix for a lot of people. The 8:02am timing with the 2-4-1-3 sequence has had good success rates based on what others have shared here. And absolutely call your doctor's office about the ICD-11 codes - that medical coding issue seems to be a hidden trap catching tons of people since the 2025 changes. Make sure you have all your documents ready before calling (claim ID, SSN, DOB) because they're strict about identity verification. It's ridiculous that we've had to become EDD phone system experts, but this community really does work! Keep us posted on how it goes - every success story helps give others hope and adds to our collective knowledge bank.

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with a similar issue - my SDI extension has been stuck in "processing" for 5 weeks and I was about ready to give up. I've been using the old phone methods that clearly don't work anymore and getting nowhere. •Welcome to this incredibly supportive community! Your experience sounds so familiar - that feeling of being about ready to give up is exactly where I was a few weeks ago before finding this thread. The collective knowledge here has been a game-changer for so many of us dealing with EDD's maze-like system. Definitely start with those Action Items first - it's shocking how many people have found missing notifications there that explained their delays. The 8:02am timing seems to be the sweet spot that multiple people have confirmed works better than the exact 8:00am rush. And definitely follow up on the ICD-11 coding issue with your doctor's office - that seems to be one of the biggest hidden problems since the 2025 changes that EDD never properly communicated. Have all your info ready (claim ID, SSN last 4, DOB) because they're really strict about verification before they'll discuss anything. It's maddening that we've had to reverse-engineer their phone system, but this community proves that persistence and shared knowledge really can beat their broken system. Rooting for your success tomorrow!

Just wanted to jump in and say thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences and solutions here! I'm currently dealing with my first SDI extension request and honestly had no idea how complicated this process could be. Reading through this thread has been both eye-opening and incredibly helpful. I submitted my extension paperwork 3 weeks ago and it's just been sitting in "processing" status with zero communication from EDD. Based on all the advice here, I'm going to check for those Action Items first thing tomorrow morning - I had no idea that section even existed! Then I'll try the 8:02am call strategy with the 2-4-1-3 menu sequence if needed. I'm also going to contact my doctor's office to make sure they used the new ICD-11 diagnostic codes when submitting my certification. It's honestly shocking that we need to crowdsource phone system hacks and coding requirements just to access basic services, but I'm so grateful for this community sharing real solutions when the official channels fail us. This thread should be pinned as essential reading for anyone dealing with EDD disability claims in 2025!

•Absolutely agree this thread should be pinned! As someone who just went through this whole ordeal, I can't stress enough how valuable all these shared experiences are. You're smart to start with the Action Items check first - that seems to be the quickest resolution for many people and could save you hours of phone time. The 8:02am timing really does seem to be the magic window based on all the success stories here. One thing I'd add to your prep list - screenshot everything in your account before making changes or calls, including your current status and any documents. I've heard from others that sometimes account info gets "refreshed" during processing and having your own records can be helpful if discrepancies come up. The ICD-11 coding issue is such a hidden trap that's catching tons of people - definitely worth that call to your doctor's office. It's wild that we've essentially had to create our own user manual for a system that should just work, but this community really proves that sharing knowledge can beat even the most broken bureaucracy. Good luck with your extension!

This thread is absolutely incredible - I've been silently following along for the past few days while desperately trying to get through to EDD about my own disability claim that's been stuck for 7 weeks. Reading through everyone's detailed experiences and solutions has been like finding a roadmap through what felt like an impossible maze. I had no clue about the Action Items section, the ICD-11 coding changes, or any of these phone timing strategies. Been using the old 1-2-1 sequence and getting nowhere fast. Tomorrow I'm armed with the 8:02am timing, 2-4-1-3 menu sequence, and a plan to check those hidden Action Items first. Also calling my doctor's office to verify they used the correct diagnostic codes. It's beyond frustrating that we have to become EDD system experts just to access benefits we've paid into, but this community sharing real solutions is truly saving people's livelihoods when the official system fails. Thank you to everyone who has contributed their hard-won knowledge here - will definitely report back with results and hopefully add another success story to help others navigate this broken system!

•Welcome to this amazing support network! Seven weeks is absolutely brutal - I can only imagine how stressful that's been, especially when you're dealing with health issues and need those benefits. This thread really has become like a survival guide for navigating EDD's nightmare system. You've got a solid battle plan with the 8:02am timing and 2-4-1-3 sequence - that combination has worked for quite a few people here. Definitely start with those Action Items first though, since that's been the quick fix for many stuck claims. The ICD-11 coding issue with your doctor's office is such an important check too - it's crazy that EDD made this change without properly notifying healthcare providers or claimants. One small tip I'd add: when you do get through to a rep, ask them specifically about "medical coding discrepancies" and "certification format issues" even if they don't mention it initially. Some reps are more thorough than others in checking for these newer problems. It's insane that we've had to collectively reverse-engineer their phone system, but the shared knowledge in this community really does work. Fingers crossed you get through tomorrow and can add another success story to help the next person dealing with this mess!

Just wanted to add my experience from this week! After reading through all the incredible advice in this thread, I finally got through to EDD using the 8:02am timing with the 2-4-1-3 menu sequence. But here's what I discovered that might help others - my claim was actually stuck because of a "provider verification issue" that wasn't showing up anywhere in my online account or as an Action Item. The rep told me that since 2025, they're doing additional verification checks on medical providers to prevent fraud, and sometimes legitimate doctors get flagged if their office information doesn't exactly match EDD's database. She was able to clear the flag immediately once she verified my doctor's credentials, and my extension was approved within 24 hours. So if you're stuck in processing limbo and the Action Items check doesn't reveal anything, specifically ask the rep to check for "provider verification holds" - it might be another hidden issue blocking your claim. This community has been such a lifesaver for navigating this broken system!

•This is such valuable information - thank you for sharing! The provider verification issue you discovered is completely new to me and probably explains why some people are getting stuck even after checking Action Items and fixing the ICD-11 coding problems. It's incredible (and frustrating) how many hidden verification steps EDD has added in 2025 without telling anyone. I'm so glad you got through and got it resolved quickly once they identified the real issue. This is exactly the kind of specific insider knowledge that makes this community so essential. I'm going to add "provider verification holds" to my list of things to ask about when I call tomorrow. It's wild that we've had to crowdsource all these different types of hidden holds and verification issues just to understand why our claims get stuck. But success stories like yours give the rest of us hope that persistence really does pay off, even when dealing with this maze of a system. Congratulations on getting your extension approved!
