Can I print my income verification from BenefitsCal for CalWORKs? Need proof for landlord ASAP

Quick question - I need to show my landlord proof of my CalWORKs income by tomorrow or I might lose my apartment. Is there any way to print an income report or verification letter directly from the BenefitsCal website? I tried looking everywhere in my account but can't find anything like a WHISS report or income statement. My county office is booked solid for the next 2 weeks so I can't get in to request one in person, and I've been on hold with the customer service line for over an hour. Has anyone successfully printed income verification themselves without going through a caseworker? Any help would be super appreciated!!

no u cant print income reports on benefitscal. they dont have that feature yet. u have to call ur worker or go to the office and request a "Income Verification Letter" or "Proof of Benefits Letter". took me 4 days to get mine last month

Ugh that's what I was afraid of. My landlord needs it by tomorrow or I could get an eviction notice. 4 days is way too long!

Unfortunately, BenefitsCal doesn't have a feature to directly print income verification documents. You need to request an official "Verification of Benefits" or "Income Verification Letter" from your county office. This is one of the limitations of the current system. However, you do have a few options for urgent situations: 1. Call your county office and specifically request an emergency income verification due to potential eviction. Make sure to mention this is time-sensitive for housing purposes. 2. If you have any previous benefit award letters, those can sometimes work temporarily with landlords as they show your benefit amount. 3. If you receive your benefits through an EBT card, a recent transaction history showing the CalWORKs deposits might work as temporary proof. 4. Some counties have begun implementing same-day electronic delivery of verification letters when requested for emergency housing situations.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I've been trying to call all day but keep getting stuck in the automated system. I do have an award letter from 3 months ago but my benefit amount changed since then because my hours at work got cut, so I don't think my landlord will accept it. I'm going to try your suggestion about the emergency verification request.

I had the EXACT same problem last year!!! The whole system is rigged against us I swear. BenefitsCal is supposed to make everything "easier" but they can't even give us the basic documents we need without jumping through a million hoops. I ended up having to take a day off work (losing $$$) to go sit at the county office for 4 HOURS just to get a simple piece of paper. It's ridiculous how they treat us like we have nothing better to do than wait around all day.

Same experience. Had to get income proof for my apartment application and the county office told me 5-7 business days! Like who has that kind of time when you're trying to find housing? The whole system needs an overhaul.

I work with CalWORKs recipients and can confirm that currently BenefitsCal doesn't offer the ability to print income verification or WHISS reports directly. This is a commonly requested feature that hasn't been implemented yet. For your immediate situation, I recommend trying Claimyr.com to get through to a live person at your county office. It's a service that basically waits on hold for you and calls you back when a real person answers. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE showing how it works. I've had clients use it to get urgent verification letters emailed to them the same day. When you do reach someone, specifically request an "emergency housing verification letter" and explain the eviction risk. Under California law, counties are supposed to provide emergency verification within 1 business day for housing emergencies.

Thank you so much for this suggestion! I've never heard of Claimyr before but I'm desperate at this point. I'll check out that video demo. Do you know if they can email the verification once I get through to someone? That would be perfect.

Yes, most counties can email a digital copy of the verification letter once you reach a worker. Make sure to specifically request electronic delivery due to the urgency. You'll need to provide your email and they may ask some identity verification questions before sending it.

maybe a screenshots of ur EBT deposits would work temporarily?? thats what i did once when i needed proof for my sons daycare subsidy and couldnt wait for the official letter. just logged into the EBT website and took pictures showing the CalWORKs deposits. not ideal but it bought me a few days until i could get the real paper.

I used to work for a property management company, and we would frequently accept temporary proof of income while waiting for official documentation. If your landlord is reasonable, showing them your EBT card, a screenshot of deposits, or even logging into your BenefitsCal account in front of them might work as a temporary solution. Explain that you've requested the official document but there's a processing delay. Also, if you have a caseworker assigned to you, try emailing them directly rather than calling the main line. Sometimes they can generate and email a verification letter much faster than going through the standard request process.

That's helpful to know about the temporary options! My landlord is pretty strict but I think showing the BenefitsCal login might work as a temporary solution. I'll try emailing my worker directly too - I didn't think of that.

btw did u try checking ur county welfare department website? some counties have online portals separate from benefitscal where u can request documents. i know LA county has one but not sure about others

Just wanted to update everyone - I tried the Claimyr service that was suggested and it actually worked! Got through to someone in about 45 minutes (instead of waiting on hold myself for hours). The worker was able to email me a verification letter right away once I explained it was for my housing. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

That's awesome! So glad it worked out for you. It's ridiculous we have to use third-party services just to reach our own benefit workers, but at least you got what you needed!

thx for the update!! saving this thread in case i need it later lol

Great news! For anyone else reading this thread in the future, here's a quick summary of options for getting income verification for CalWORKs: 1. Request an official Verification of Benefits letter from your county office (standard method) 2. For emergencies, specifically request an "emergency housing verification" when calling 3. Use EBT transaction history as temporary proof if needed 4. Try Claimyr or similar services to get through phone lines faster 5. Check if your specific county has a separate portal with document request features 6. If you have a specific caseworker, email them directly with your request Hopefully BenefitsCal will add this feature in the future since it's so commonly needed!

This is such a great resource thread! I'm bookmarking this for future reference. It's frustrating that we can't just print these documents ourselves from BenefitsCal, but at least now I know about the emergency housing verification option and the Claimyr service. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences and solutions - this community is so helpful for navigating all the bureaucratic hurdles we face with these benefit systems.

Totally agree! This thread should be pinned or something. I'm new to CalWORKs and had no idea about half of these options. The fact that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get basic documentation is pretty ridiculous, but it's really helpful to know there are workarounds. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - definitely makes navigating this system a little less overwhelming when you're just starting out!

As someone who's been on CalWORKs for about 6 months now, I can't believe how backward this system is when it comes to basic document access. Like seriously, in 2025 we can order food, pay bills, and do banking all online instantly, but we can't print a simple income verification letter from our benefits portal? It's like they designed the system to make our lives harder on purpose. I'm really glad this thread exists though because I had no idea about the emergency housing verification option or that Claimyr service. Definitely going to remember these tips for when I inevitably need proof of income again. It's sad that we have to rely on third-party services and community knowledge just to access our own benefit information, but I'm grateful for everyone sharing these workarounds. The bureaucracy is exhausting enough without having to figure everything out from scratch every time.

You're absolutely right about how backwards this system is! It's 2025 and we can do almost everything online except access our own benefit documents. I've been dealing with CalWORKs for over a year now and the lack of basic self-service features is mind-boggling. What really gets me is that they push everyone to use BenefitsCal as the "modern" solution, but then you still have to call or visit offices for the most basic things. And don't even get me started on those phone wait times - I've literally spent entire mornings on hold just to ask a simple question. This thread has been a lifesaver though! I had no clue about the emergency verification option or Claimyr. It's frustrating that we have to crowdsource solutions like this, but I'm so thankful for communities like this where people actually help each other navigate all the red tape. Definitely saving all these tips for future reference!
