CalWORKs SAR7 processing time - submitted early but status still shows 'pending review'
I filled out my SAR7 for CalWORKs through BenefitsCal and submitted it on 4/2/24. The website said I have until 4/30/24 but recommended submitting by 4/5/24 (which I did). It's been almost a week now and when I check the status online it still shows 'pending review'. How long does it normally take for them to process these periodic reports? I'm getting nervous because my rent is due soon and I need to know if my Cash Aid will continue. Is there anything I should do while waiting or just be patient? This is only my second SAR7 so I'm not sure what's normal.

The processing time for SAR7s can really vary by county and how backed up they are. Since you submitted it by their recommended date (4/5), you should be fine. Usually they process them within 7-10 business days, but it can take up to the end of the month sometimes. The good news is that since you submitted it before the deadline, your benefits shouldn't be interrupted even if they don't process it immediately. If you're really concerned, you can call your eligibility worker directly. Do you have their direct number?

•Thank you for the info! No I don't have my workers direct number, just the main county line. I tried calling yesterday and was on hold for 45 minutes before I had to hang up for work. Do you think i should just wait the full 10 business days before trying to call again?

•Just want to clarify - while it's true your benefits won't stop immediately, submitting late can cause delays and potential gaps in benefits. The county is required to process timely reports by the end of the month to ensure continuous benefits, but late reports don't have the same guarantee. The system is designed to process timely submissions first.

I HATE how they never tell you clearly how long anything takes with CalWORKs!!! I submitted my SAR7 early last month and they still sent me a discontinuance notice because they claimed they never got it even though I had the confirmation number!!!! Had to resubmit everything and fight to get my cash aid reinstated. The workers don't care AT ALL about our stress.

•Omg that's what I'm afraid of 😱 I took screenshots of my confirmation page just in case. Did you have to go into the office to fix it or were you able to do it over the phone?

If you're worried about reaching someone, I'd recommend trying Claimyr.com - I used it last month when I was in a similar situation with my SAR7. They connect you to a real CalWORKs worker without the crazy hold time. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE I was able to verify they received my SAR7 and find out exactly when it would be processed. Saved me days of worry and multiple call attempts.

•I've never heard of this before. Does it actually work? Seems like it would be worth it just to get confirmation they received everything correctly.

One little tip - check your SAR7 status on BenefitsCal, but also check your Messages section. Sometimes they'll send you a notice asking for additional verification even if you submitted everything. I missed one of those messages and almost had my benefits stopped because I didn't respond in time. Btw if you submitted 4/2 and we're now at 4/9 (assuming today's date), that's only 5 business days because of the weekend, so still within normal processing time.

•Thank you for the tip! I just checked my Messages and there's nothing there, but I'll keep monitoring it. I didn't realize we should count business days not regular days, that makes me feel a bit better.

CalWORKs eligibility worker here. SAR7 processing times vary by county but generally: - 5-10 business days for uncomplicated reports with no income changes - 10-15 business days if you reported income changes that need verification - Up to 30 days if there are discrepancies that require investigation The good news is that as long as you submitted before the due date (and especially since you submitted by the recommended early date), your benefits should continue without interruption even if processing takes time. If you want to verify that everything was received properly, call your county office and specifically ask: "Can you confirm if my SAR7 was received and if it's considered complete?" This is different from asking about processing status.

•Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! I did report some overtime hours at my job that I don't normally have, so maybe that's why it's taking longer? I'll try calling tomorrow with that specific question you suggested.

did you submitted it through BenefitsCal or did you mail it? i always take mine to the office in person and get a receipt cause one time they claimed they never got mine when i mailed it and my benefits got cut off for a whole month. never trust the system to work right fr

•I submitted it online through BenefitsCal and took screenshots of the confirmation. Maybe I should have done it in person though... now I'm worried.

Just wanted to follow up - have you heard anything back yet? If it's been more than 10 business days now, I would definitely call. Remember that even if your worker doesn't process it immediately, as long as you submitted it before the deadline, your benefits will continue. They can't discontinue benefits if you met the reporting deadline.

•Thanks for checking! I ended up getting through on the phone yesterday after trying all morning. They confirmed they received my SAR7 and said it's been assigned to a worker but not processed yet. The person I spoke to said my benefits will continue while it's being processed since I met the deadline.
