CalWORKs Diaper Allowance suddenly missing from January 2025 payments - anyone else?
Just checked my EBT account this morning and noticed my diaper allowance ($60 for my 2-yr-old) is completely missing from this month's Cash Aid deposit. Everything else is the same amount, just no diaper money. Did anybody else have this issue with their January payment? I've been receiving it consistently for the last 8 months with no problems. I tried calling my worker but got stuck in the phone queue for over an hour before having to hang up for my WTW appointment. I'm worried they discontinued it because I missed submitting something, but I never got any notice about changes. Has this happened to anyone else recently?

I work as a benefits advocate and we're hearing about this from multiple clients. There was actually a system-wide issue with the diaper supplement for January. The county is aware of the problem and should be issuing supplemental payments within 7-10 business days. You don't need to do anything, but if you don't see it by January 20th, then definitely contact your worker. For anyone not familiar, CalWORKs provides a $60 monthly diaper benefit for each child under 3 years old in the assistance unit. It's automatically included in your Cash Aid payment - you don't need to submit separate verification for it as long as the child's age is properly documented in your case.

•Thank you! That's a relief. I was worried I had missed some new verification requirement or something.

My january payment looks right but now im worried. hOW DO YOU EVEN TELL if the diaper money is included?? isnt it just part of the total cash aid? i have twins who are 1 but i never knew how to check if im getting the right amount

•You should be getting $120 total for twins under age 3 ($60 each). The Notice of Action you receive with your benefit calculation should break down all the components of your grant, including the diaper benefit. If you log into BenefitsCal, you can also see a breakdown of your current benefits. For twins age 1, you should definitely be receiving the diaper benefit automatically!

•My son is only 2, so that's definitely not it for me. Sounds like from what @helpful_guidance said it's a system issue this month.

After spending THREE HOURS trying to get through to my worker about this exact issue, I finally got through and they confirmed it's a system glitch. They said they already started processing the fix but it might take up to 2 weeks for the additional payment to show up. They're supposed to be sending notices about it but who knows if those will actually arrive! So frustrating that they can't get these basic things right. My daughter needs diapers NOW, not in two weeks!

•If you're really stuck waiting for the payment, check with your local WIC office - sometimes they have emergency diaper supplies or can connect you with local resources. I had to do that once when my benefits were delayed for verification issues.

I've been trying to reach someone at the county about this too but can't get through. The hold times are ridiculous! I finally tried using Claimyr and got a callback from a worker in 20 minutes. They confirmed what others are saying - system glitch that should be fixed with a supplemental payment. If anyone else is struggling to get through, check out claimyr.com - they have this service that gets you through the phone queue. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE Saved me hours of holding and the worker was actually helpful once I got through.

•Yeah it actually does. I was skeptical but it connected me directly to someone who could help. Way better than waiting on hold for hours.

I just got the supplemental payment for the diaper allowance! Check your accounts if you were missing it too. Only took a week instead of the two weeks they told me.

This whole thing reminds me that diaper benefits are ending completely when my daughter turns 3 next month. Has anyone successfully transitioned their toddler out of diapers before the benefits end? Any potty training tips that worked with your kids? My daughter shows zero interest and I'm worried about the extra expense.

I'm so glad I found this thread! I was panicking when I saw my diaper allowance was missing from my January payment too. My 15-month-old daughter depends on that $60 and I was worried I'd done something wrong with my paperwork. It's such a relief to know it was just a system glitch and not something I messed up. I'll keep checking my account for the supplemental payment. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences - it really helped calm my nerves knowing I wasn't the only one dealing with this!
