Will my CalFresh EBT benefits get cut if I submit my SAR7 on July 5th?
Just realized my SAR7 is due by the 5th of July and I'm panicking a bit. My benefits load on the 2nd of every month, so I'm wondering what happens if I turn in my SAR7 on the actual due date (July 5th)? Will my August benefits get delayed or cut off completely? Also, are county offices even open on Monday the 5th since it's right after the holiday weekend? I've been back on CalFresh for 6 months after a few years off the program, and I honestly can't remember how strict they are with these deadlines. My kids are home for summer break and we really rely on those benefits for their meals.

You should be fine submitting on the 5th - that's your actual due date. Your benefits for July are already guaranteed since they load on the 2nd. The SAR7 you submit by July 5th affects your August benefits. But honestly, I'd try to submit it tomorrow (Friday) if possible just to be safe. Some county offices might be closed on Monday for the extended holiday weekend, and you don't want to risk it. You can also submit online through BenefitsCal.com if you're registered!

•Thank you!! I'm worried because my work schedule tomorrow is packed and I don't get off until 6pm. I forgot about the BenefitsCal option. Do you know if they actually receive it right away if I submit online? Last time I tried the website it was really glitchy.

Just my experience but DO NOT wait till the due date!!! The county lost my SAR7 when i turned it in on the 5th last year even tho i went in person, and they cut my benefits off. took WEEKS to get them back and had to do a whole appeal. I always turn mine in by the 1st now.

I think most offices are closed Monday for the holiday. My worker told me anything around holidays gets super backed up. Can u fax it maybe??

•Great point about the holiday. Most county services are closed for July 4th observed, so definitely don't wait until Monday. Friday (tomorrow) is the last business day before the deadline. And yes, faxing is actually a good option - just make sure to keep the confirmation page as proof you submitted it on time.

If you can't make it to the office tomorrow, try using Claimyr to reach someone at the county directly. I was in a similar situation last month with my verification documents and couldn't get through the regular line. Used their service at claimyr.com and they got me through to a real person in like 15 minutes who confirmed my options. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 The worker I talked to actually gave me an extension on my paperwork deadline when I explained my situation. Worth a try!

•Thanks for the suggestion. Is this service free? I've spent literally HOURS on hold with the county before so anything would be better than that right now.

•It's not free but honestly worth it for emergency situations like this. Saved me from losing benefits last month when I couldn't get through the regular way. Way better than taking time off work to go to the office in person!

To directly answer your question: The July 5th deadline means your SAR7 must be received by the county by that date to avoid potential interruption to your August benefits. Since your July benefits load on the 2nd, those are secure regardless. Here are your options: 1. Submit online through BenefitsCal (24/7 access, immediate receipt) 2. Submit in person on Friday (get a receipt!) 3. Fax it in (keep confirmation page) 4. Use the county drop box (take a photo as proof of submission) If you absolutely can't submit until Monday and discover the office is closed, submit online immediately and call your worker first thing Tuesday to confirm they received it. They sometimes have flexibility for submissions that are only 1 business day late, especially around holidays.

•Thank you for laying out all the options so clearly! I'm going to try BenefitsCal tonight, and if that doesn't work I'll go to the office on my lunch break tomorrow. I definitely don't want to risk missing a month of benefits.

just wondering why your worried about the sar7 anyway?? isnt that just if your income changed?? i never fill those out and my snap benefits still come every month lol

•That's not correct. You NEED to submit the SAR7 every 6 months to keep your benefits, even if nothing changed. If you haven't been doing that, you might be confusing CalFresh with another benefit or your county has some unusual process. But in California, everyone on CalFresh needs to submit the SAR7 semi-annual report to keep their benefits active.

Quick clarification on something important: Most county offices will be CLOSED on Monday, July 5th, 2025 in observance of Independence Day (which falls on Friday the 4th). This means that if you wait until Monday to try to submit your SAR7 in person, you'll find closed doors and would miss your deadline. If you can't submit tomorrow in person or need after-hours options, you can: 1. Submit through BenefitsCal.com (takes 15-20 mins to complete) 2. Use the county drop box (usually available 24/7 outside the building) 3. Fax your completed form if you have access to a fax machine Whichever method you choose, take photos or get confirmation of your submission for your records.

•Thank you so much for confirming this! The holiday totally slipped my mind. I'm going to try BenefitsCal tonight, but if the website gives me trouble I'll definitely go to the office tomorrow. Good to know about the drop box too in case I can't make it during business hours.

•I understand the frustration. The system requires self-reporting because automated data often lags behind real-time changes in your situation. Things like cash jobs, household changes, or expense adjustments aren't visible in their systems until much later. The good news is California has actually simplified the process considerably compared to the past when monthly reporting was required!

UPDATE: I submitted my SAR7 through BenefitsCal last night and got a confirmation number! Thanks everyone for the advice - especially about the holiday closure on Monday. I called this morning just to confirm they received it (took forever to get through) and they said everything looks good for my August benefits. Such a relief!

•That's great news! Smart move to call and confirm too. Make sure you save that confirmation number somewhere safe just in case there are any issues later. Glad it all worked out!

So glad to hear you got it submitted successfully! This is a perfect example of why it's important to not wait until the last minute with these deadlines. For anyone else reading this thread - the key takeaway is that BenefitsCal.com is available 24/7 and gives you immediate confirmation, which is super helpful when you're cutting it close on deadlines. Also, always keep those confirmation numbers! I screenshot mine and email them to myself so I have a backup record. Thanks for updating us on how it turned out, Leslie!

•This whole thread has been super helpful! I'm new to CalFresh and had no idea about the SAR7 requirements or that BenefitsCal was even an option for submitting forms. Really glad Leslie got it sorted out, and thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - both the success stories and the warnings about what can go wrong if you miss deadlines. I'm going to set reminders in my phone now for my SAR7 dates so I don't end up in a last-minute panic like this!
