WIC app showing zero balance for all benefits - LA County glitch?

I just checked my WIC app to see what I have left for the month and it's showing ZERO for everything! I know for sure I should still have at least 4 gallons of milk, some cheese, and whole grain bread benefits remaining for May. I used some benefits last week but definitely not all of them. Anyone else in LA County experiencing this? Is the app glitching? I really need those groceries for my kids and can't afford to buy them out-of-pocket right now. Should I call the WIC office or will this fix itself?

same thing happened to me this morning!! was about to go to the store and saw zeros across the board. i KNOW i had fruits and veggies left and infant formula. this is so stressful.

Omg glad I'm not the only one but also sorry you're dealing with this too! Did you try logging out and back in? I tried that and still showing zeros 😩

This is most likely a system glitch. Don't panic! LA County WIC offices have been updating their benefit management system this week. I experienced something similar yesterday, but my benefits reappeared after about 6 hours. If you're seeing this message, try these steps: 1. Log out completely and restart your phone 2. Delete and reinstall the WIC app 3. Clear your cache if using the website If none of this works, your benefits should reappear within 24 hours as the system update completes. If you absolutely need to shop today, go to your regular WIC store and have them check your balance at checkout - sometimes the store system shows the correct balance even when the app doesn't.

Thank you so much for the detailed info! I'll try those steps right now. It's a relief to hear it might be temporary. My 2-year-old drinks so much milk, I was panicking about making it through the week without the WIC benefits.

Actually, this sounds like a different issue than what OP is describing. The current situation appears to be a system-wide update affecting multiple accounts temporarily. What you experienced was likely an individual account issue with benefit allocation. For system-wide glitches like what's happening now, it's best to wait 24-48 hours before contacting your WIC office, as they're probably already working on it.

I work with clients who use various benefits programs including WIC. LA County WIC is definitely experiencing a system update this week (May 15-17, 2025). This is affecting how benefits display in the WIC app, but your actual benefits should still be intact. If you need immediate assistance reaching someone at the WIC office, I've had several clients use Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through the phone lines much faster. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 The service helps you bypass the long hold times which are especially bad during system updates like this. Might be worth checking out if you need immediate help rather than waiting on hold for hours.

Thanks for this info. Does the Claimyr thing actually work? I've tried calling LA County WIC before and got disconnected THREE times after waiting over an hour each time. It's almost impossible to reach a real person.

Yes, several of my clients have used it successfully. It's especially helpful for benefits offices like WIC and CalFresh that are chronically understaffed. The service basically waits on hold for you and calls you back when a real person answers.

I just came back from Food 4 Less (I'm in LA County too) and despite the app showing zero, my benefits worked fine at checkout! So it seems to just be a display issue in the app, not the actual benefits. Try shopping as normal and see if it works.

That's such a relief to hear! I'll try going to the store tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your experience!

This is a known issue with the California WIC app during system updates. While WIC is a separate program from CalFresh, they often use similar backend systems that require periodic maintenance. The most important thing to understand is that this is almost certainly just a display error, not an actual removal of benefits. If you need to verify your actual balance, you have three options: 1. Call the WIC office directly (though wait times may be long during system issues) 2. Visit a WIC office in person 3. Simply attempt to use your benefits at an authorized retailer History shows these display issues typically resolve within 48 hours. However, if you see no improvement by Friday, you should contact your local WIC office to ensure there isn't a problem specific to your account.

would this effect the california wic card too or just the app? i wasnt sure if i should even try using my card if the app says zero

UPDATE: My benefits are back! Logged into the app this morning and everything is showing correctly now. For anyone else with this issue, looks like it was just a temporary glitch with the app display. Thanks everyone for your help!

Great news! Thanks for updating us. This confirms it was indeed related to the system maintenance they've been doing. Glad it resolved quickly for you!

So glad to see this got resolved! This is actually pretty common during WIC system updates - I've seen this happen in Orange County too. For future reference, the CA WIC program usually posts updates about planned maintenance on their main website (mywic.ca.gov), so you can check there if you see weird app behavior. Also worth noting that even when the app shows zero, your physical WIC card should still work at authorized stores during these glitches. The card connects to a different part of the system than the mobile app display.
