Missing CalFresh reload for kids under 6 with P-EBT 4.0 cards - $180 coming for September?
Really confused about my kids' food benefits. I have two children (ages 3 and 5) who were supposed to get extra CalFresh benefits through the P-EBT 4.0 program. My neighbor told me that children 0-6 years old should be getting an additional $36 per month on their cards. My kids' P-EBT cards haven't been reloaded since July, and we're already in October! I called the county office twice but kept getting disconnected. Has anyone received the September payment? My neighbor swears it should be $180 total for September (like catching up for missed months?). Does that sound right? We're really counting on this money to get through the month.

Yes, the P-EBT 4.0 program is indeed providing benefits for eligible children ages 0-6, but there's often confusion between this and regular CalFresh. P-EBT 4.0 benefits are loaded on P-EBT cards, not your regular CalFresh EBT card. The current benefit amount is $36 per eligible child per month, and yes, they sometimes do batch payments covering multiple months at once. The $180 your neighbor mentioned could be correct if it's covering 5 months of back benefits ($36 x 5 = $180). September payments may still be processing - these rollouts often happen in waves based on case numbers.

•Thanks for explaining! But I'm still confused - are these P-EBT cards different from our regular CalFresh card? We got separate blue cards for the kids last year but nothing new recently. Should I be looking for new cards in the mail? Sorry if that's a dumb question, just trying to figure out if I'm missing something important.

•OMG thank you!! I still have their blue cards in my drawer! Let me check them again. I didn't think to look there because nobody told me they'd reuse the same cards from before. Really appreciate this!

The state is ABSOLUTELY reloading those P-EBT cards for young children but they're doing it in batches and it's MONTHS behind schedule as usual! My daughter's card finally got the $180 deposit last Friday (she's 4). Called the P-EBT hotline three times before that and they kept giving different answers about when it would happen. So frustrating that they can't get this right!!!

•Yep same. So tired of these government programs that promise benefits then make you wait forever with no communication. And you can never get anyone on the phone who actually knows what's happening.

Just to clarify some information: P-EBT 4.0 and CalFresh are separate programs, though both provide food assistance. P-EBT 4.0 is specifically for children who were eligible for free/reduced school meals or under age 6 in CalFresh households during the 2022-2023 school year. Benefits are $36/month per eligible child and are being distributed in batches throughout 2025. The reload will use the SAME P-EBT card your children previously received. If you lost those cards, you can request replacements by calling the P-EBT Helpline at 877-328-9677. The $180 amount some are receiving is likely 5 months of combined benefits ($36 x 5). I highly recommend using Claimyr to reach a live person at the P-EBT Helpline without the endless wait times. I was getting disconnected after 45+ minutes of waiting until I found this service at claimyr.com - they connected me to a representative in under 10 minutes. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 showing how it works. Seriously saved me hours of frustration.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I didn't realize they were completely separate programs. I'll check the cards we already have tonight. And thanks for the tip about Claimyr - those disconnections after waiting forever are so frustrating. I'll check out that service if I need to call again.

Just FYI for everyone - I went to check my kids' P-EBT balance yesterday after reading this thread and realized their cards had expired! Had to call for replacements. Apparently the cards have expiration dates just like regular credit cards. Check the expiration date on your kids' cards even if you still have them.

•This happened to me too! The replacement cards took almost 3 weeks to arrive, but at least the benefits were still available when the new cards came. Just annoying they don't send any notification about expiring cards.

Am I the only one completely lost on all these different benefit cards? We have regular CalFresh EBT, then these P-EBT cards, and I also got some notice about Summer EBT starting for 2025? Why can't they just put all the benefits on ONE card instead of making us keep track of 50 different cards?

•It is confusing! CalFresh EBT is your ongoing food benefits based on household income. P-EBT was initially a pandemic program that got extended. Summer EBT is a newer program for when school is out. They're separate funding sources and systems, which is why they use different cards. But I agree it would be much more user-friendly to consolidate them!

•I just checked our cards after reading this thread and found the $180 payment from September! Nothing for October yet though. But at least I know the program is still active.

Important notice for everyone: If your address has changed since you first got the P-EBT cards, you NEED to update it through the P-EBT portal or by calling. They won't forward these cards even if you have mail forwarding set up with USPS. I learned this the hard way when we moved last year and nearly missed out on $500+ in benefits that were sitting on cards mailed to our old address!

•Oh that's really good to know! We moved in July so I better update our info right away. Thanks for the tip!
