Why hasn't my 2-year-old received P-EBT benefits this year? Got it last year in South Bay
I'm really confused about the P-EBT situation this year. My 2-year-old received P-EBT benefits last year (around $1,500 total I think), but we haven't gotten anything for 2025. We're still at the same address in South Bay and nothing has changed with our CalFresh benefits. My neighbor said her kids got theirs already last month. Has the distribution schedule changed? Do I need to apply somewhere this year? I thought it was supposed to be automatic like before. Any help would be appreciated because that extra food money really helped us get by.

Are you sure your talking about p-ebt for a 2 yr old? p-ebt is for school age kids usually. unless your 2yr old is in some kind of headstart program? maybe u got regular calfresh last yr not p-ebt?

•Yes, it was definitely P-EBT. My daughter goes to an Early Head Start program 3 days a week, and they said all kids in the program qualified last year because of the expanded eligibility. The card looked different from my regular CalFresh EBT card too - it had her name on it.

P-EBT 2025 has different eligibility guidelines than previous years. For children under school age, they now need to be enrolled in CalFresh AND attending a qualifying childcare program that participates in the federal meal program. The distribution schedule has also changed - they're rolling it out by county and age group, with South Bay counties scheduled for April-May for preschool-aged children. Here are some possible reasons you haven't received it yet: 1. Your child's Early Head Start program may no longer be classified as a qualifying facility 2. The cards for your area simply haven't been mailed yet 3. There might be an address mismatch in the system I'd recommend calling the P-EBT helpline at 877-328-9677 to check your status. Alternatively, contact your Early Head Start program director to confirm they're participating in the 2025 P-EBT program.

•Thank you so much for this detailed info! I didn't realize the rules changed. I'll check with her Head Start program tomorrow to see if they're still qualifying and then call that helpline if needed. It's so confusing when they change things without really telling people.

My kids (4 and 6) just got theirs last week in San Jose, so they are definitely still sending them out in South Bay. Check if your mail is getting forwarded correctly. My friend had hers sent to her old address even though she updated everything with CalFresh.

•This is such a good point! The same thing happened to me - I moved just 2 blocks away but my address update only went through for regular CalFresh and not P-EBT. The systems don't talk to each other apparently! 🙄 Had to call and specifically update my address for P-EBT too.

I work with families applying for benefits, and there's a few things to understand about P-EBT 2025: 1. The qualifying age for childcare P-EBT is now 0-5 years (not 0-6 like last year) 2. Children must be in CalFresh households AND attend qualifying childcare 3. South Bay distribution for 0-3 age group is scheduled for May 15-30 4. Your childcare facility must participate in CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) Since your child received it last year and nothing has changed in your situation, it's most likely that you're still in the queue for distribution. Some areas of South Bay received cards early, but the full rollout isn't complete. I suggest calling your county's CalFresh office directly to check your status, but be prepared for long wait times. You can use Claimyr.com to help you get through faster - they'll wait on hold and call you back when a real person answers. I've recommended it to several families who needed to reach county workers quickly. You can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8

•Thank you for such detailed information! I'll wait until the end of May before panicking since it sounds like we're still in the distribution window. If I don't receive anything by June 1st, I'll definitely use that Claimyr service to get through to someone - those hold times are brutal with a toddler running around!

They ALWAYS mess up P-EBT!!! Every single year there's some new problem. Last year they sent my kids' cards to my ex even though I have full custody AND get the CalFresh benefits. The year before they just randomly skipped my middle child. The system is BROKEN!! Don't hold your breath waiting for them to fix it without you making 100 phone calls.

•Exactly!!! I've had nothing but problems with P-EBT every single time. Regular CalFresh works fine but P-EBT is always a disaster. Took me 3 months and filing a formal complaint last year before they fixed my daughter's card. And they wonder why people get so frustrated with the system...

Have you checked BenefitsCal to see if there's any notifications about it? Sometimes they post updates there before sending anything in the mail. Also make sure you don't have any pending SAR7 or recertification things that might be holding up any of your benefits. That happened to me last year - everything got delayed because I was a week late on my semi-annual report.

•I didn't think to check BenefitsCal! Just logged in and there's nothing about P-EBT showing up there. My SAR7 is up to date (just did it in March) and our recertification isn't until October. Seems like I just need to wait based on what everyone is saying. Thanks for the suggestion though!

•You don't need to apply separately if you're already on CalFresh. However, your 3-year-old needs to be attending a childcare facility that participates in the federal food program (CACFP). Ask your childcare provider if they participate in this program. If they do, and you're on CalFresh, your child should automatically receive P-EBT when cards are distributed to your area.

Update: Called my daughter's Head Start program this morning and they confirmed they're still participating in the food program this year. The director said several other parents have been asking about P-EBT too, and she thinks the cards are just delayed. She suggested waiting until the end of May before following up with the county. Thanks everyone for your help!

•That's great news! The Head Start director is giving you good advice. The P-EBT distribution windows are guidelines, and they often run a bit behind schedule. If you don't receive anything by early June, then it would be appropriate to follow up with the county. Glad you got some clarity!
