Still waiting for P-EBT for kids under 6 in LA County - anyone else?

Is anyone else still waiting for their P-EBT benefits for young kids in LA County? My neighbor got hers last week for her 4-year-old, but I haven't received anything yet for my 2-year-old and 5-year-old. I've been checking the mail every day for weeks! Called the P-EBT hotline twice but got stuck in the automated system both times. Started to worry maybe I missed something on my CalFresh renewal that disqualified us? We're definitely still getting regular CalFresh benefits ($750/month for our family of 4), but no P-EBT cards yet. The website says all cards should have been mailed by May 2025, but it's almost June! Anyone in the same boat or know what's going on with the distribution timeline?

The P-EBT rollout for kids 0-6 is happening in phases based on case numbers, not everyone gets them at once. My daughter's came last week, but my coworker is still waiting too. As long as your kids were on an active CalFresh case during the eligibility period and are under 6, you should get it eventually. The P-EBT website shows they're still sending cards through June 2025 for LA County. Check if your mailing address on your CalFresh account is current - that's the address they use for sending the cards.

Thank you! That makes me feel better. Our address is definitely current since we just did our SAR7 last month. Do you know if there's any way to check our status specifically? The website doesn't seem to have a lookup tool.

At least I'm not alone! Have you tried calling the hotline? I'm wondering if it's even worth trying again.

P-EBT distribution is handled separately from regular CalFresh benefits, and the schedule depends on your case number. LA County is particularly large so they're doing a phased rollout. Here's what you should know: 1. Cards are being mailed through June 30, 2025 for LA County 2. Eligibility is automatic if your child was under 6 and on CalFresh during the qualifying months 3. The card comes to the address on file with your CalFresh account 4. You don't need to apply separately for P-EBT If you don't receive anything by mid-June, then you should follow up with the P-EBT hotline. But right now, you're still within the normal distribution window.

This is super helpful info, thank you! I'll try to be patient until mid-June before panicking.

I FINALLY got my daughter's card yesterday after waiting FOREVER!! They are definitely taking their sweet time with the distribution. The weird thing is my neighbor who applied for CalFresh after me got her kids' cards two weeks ago!! Makes NO sense how they prioritize these things. Just keep checking your mail and don't throw out any official-looking envelopes - the cards come in plain white envelopes that could easily be mistaken for junk mail!!

Oh that's good to know about the envelope! I'll make sure to check everything carefully. Congrats on finally getting yours!

That's interesting about the case numbers. Mine ends in 891 and I got my kids' cards last week. But I'm in LA County so maybe each county has their own sequence?

Just to add some context - P-EBT for kids 0-6 is totally separate from normal CalFresh benefits. The eligibility criteria are different, and it's being administered at the state level, not county level (though they use county data). A lot of people don't realize they're completely separate programs. I tried calling about this last week and spent TWO HOURS on hold with the P-EBT hotline before getting disconnected. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get a callback from an actual person. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 The agent confirmed they're still sending cards to LA County addresses through the end of June. So unless it's July and you still haven't received anything, you're probably fine. But using that service saved me hours of frustration with the hold time.

ALSO IMPORTANT!!! When you DO get the card, you have to activate it within like 30 days or something!! My sister missed the window and had to request a replacement which took ANOTHER month. Don't make that mistake!!

Oh wow I had no idea there was an activation window! Thanks for the heads up, I'll make sure to activate right away when it comes.

One more thing that might be helpful - if you check the P-EBT website (ca-pebt.org), they have updates on the distribution timeline. They actually just updated it yesterday to show that for LA County, they're about 60% through the mailings for children under 6. So there's still a significant number of eligible families waiting.

That's really good to know! I checked last week but didn't see that specific percentage. I'll take another look. Thanks again for all your help.

I had the same worry but got my kids' cards last week! Don't stress too much about it. The P-EBT rollout has been a mess since they started it during COVID. Different counties are on different schedules, and even within counties it seems random. As long as your kids were on CalFresh during the eligible months and are under 6, you'll get it eventually. The system is just SLOW.

SO SLOW!! And heaven forbid you have a question or problem - impossible to reach anyone who can actually help!!

the amounts on the cards are different based on how many months ur kid was eligible btw. my 4yo got $1240 but my 1yo only got $630 cuz we added her to our case later

That's interesting and makes sense. My kids have been on our case the whole time so hopefully they'll get the full amount when the cards finally arrive.
