When is LA County sending out summer P-EBT for 8-year-olds in 2025?

Anyone have updates on the summer P-EBT cards for school-aged kids in LA County? My son is 8 and we got P-EBT before but haven't heard anything about this year's distribution. The school said it's coming but no date? Our CalFresh benefits barely cover 3 weeks of groceries now with these prices, and summer means no school meals. Has anyone with elementary school kids received theirs or gotten any official notification about when they're sending them??

My neighbor in LA County just got a notice yesterday saying P-EBT for summer 2025 should arrive between June 15-30 for most elementary school kids. They're doing a staggered rollout based on last name this year. A-H first week, I-P second week, Q-Z third week. Hope that helps!

Thank you!!! We're 'M' so I guess we'll get it second week. Did they say if the amount is the same as last year or if they increased it at all?

My kids didnt get there p-ebt yet either and the county office never picks up when i call them!!!! This is so frustrating, my 3 kids need to eat and grocery prices are INSANE right now. Why cant they just put it on the regular CalFresh EBT card instead of making us wait for separate cards?? The whole system is a JOKE

If you're trying to reach the LA County DPSS about P-EBT specifically, make sure you're calling the right number. The regular CalFresh number can't help with P-EBT questions since it's administered separately through CDE. The P-EBT helpline is 877-328-9677 but it's almost always jammed. I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) last month to get through after trying for days. They called and waited on hold for me then connected when a real person answered. Saved me hours of frustration! They have a demo video here: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8

Just to clarify some information about the Summer P-EBT for 2025: 1. P-EBT is separate from regular CalFresh benefits and is administered by California Department of Education, not DPSS. 2. For Summer 2025, children who were eligible for free or reduced-price meals during the 2024-2025 school year automatically qualify. 3. The benefit amount for Summer 2025 is $195 per eligible child (increased from $175 last summer). 4. Distribution for LA County specifically is scheduled for mid-June through early July, with exact timing based on last name as another commenter mentioned. 5. No new application is needed if your child already receives free/reduced lunch or if your household gets CalFresh. If your benefits don't arrive by July 15th, then you should contact the P-EBT helpline at 877-328-9677.

Thank you for the detailed info! That $195 will really help with summer groceries. Do you know if they're mailing new cards to everyone or reloading existing P-EBT cards from previous years?

For children who received P-EBT before, the benefits will be loaded onto the same card if you still have it. If you lost your card, you can request a replacement by calling the EBT Customer Service at 877-328-9677. New recipients will get new cards in the mail. Always keep your P-EBT cards even after they're empty, as they can be reloaded for future benefits.

This is a common misunderstanding. While most children in CalFresh households qualify for P-EBT, there are some situations where they might not. For example, if your child's school doesn't participate in the National School Lunch Program, or if your child was enrolled in a district that provided free summer meals to all students in your area last year. For Summer 2025, make sure your school has your child correctly coded as eligible for free/reduced meals. You can check with your school's front office to confirm this status.

My daughter got her P-EBT yesterday! We're in Pasadena (LA County) and our last name starts with B. The amount is $195 like someone mentioned above. It came in a plain white envelope that almost looked like junk mail, so check your mail carefully!

Thanks for letting us know! I'll keep an eye out for it. Did it come with any instructions or just the card?

It came with a one-page letter explaining the benefit and card activation instructions. You have to call to set the PIN using the child's date of birth. And yes, it looks different from regular CalFresh EBT cards - it's white with a colorful P-EBT logo.

Just got an update from my son's school - they said if your child is on an IEP or has a documented disability, you might get a slightly higher P-EBT amount (around $240 instead of $195). Has anyone else heard this or received the higher amount?

That's partially accurate. Children who attended schools with summer programming specifically for students with disabilities might qualify for additional P-EBT days, which would increase the total benefit amount. However, simply having an IEP doesn't automatically qualify for a higher amount - it depends on the specific summer programs offered by your child's school. Contact your school district's nutrition services department for confirmation of your child's specific benefit amount.

UPDATE: Just got our P-EBT card in the mail today! It really does look like junk mail so check your envelopes carefully. The benefit is $195 as others mentioned. For anyone still waiting, looks like they're moving faster than expected with the distribution.
