Summer P-EBT 2025 eligibility checker for LA County CalFresh households?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out where I can check if my kids will get Summer P-EBT (someone called them "summer sun bucks"??) this year. We're in Los Angeles County and currently get CalFresh, but I never received anything for my two elementary schoolers last summer. Is there a specific website I'm supposed to check? My neighbor said her kids automatically got it, but when I called the EBT customer service line they just transferred me around in circles. Any LA County parents know where I should be looking?

Summer P-EBT (P-EBT 5.0 for 2025) eligibility info isn't on a separate website - it's automatic if your children are receiving free or reduced-price school meals OR if your household receives CalFresh. Since you mentioned you're on CalFresh, your children should qualify automatically. The state distributes benefits through the existing EBT system, and you should receive a letter from CDSS about a month before they're issued. For LA County, I believe the expected distribution is starting in July 2025, but check your BenefitsCal account for notifications too.

Thanks for explaining! My BenefitsCal account never shows any notifications so I wasn't sure. Do you know if I need to do anything since I didn't get it last year? I'm worried maybe they don't have my kids properly linked to my case or something.

LOL that's good to know! I was searching for "summer sun bucks" and finding nothing. My kids DO get free lunch at school, which is why I was confused about not getting anything last year.

I had the EXACT same problem last year!!! My kids should have qualified but we never got the summer P-EBT even though we were on CalFresh. I called like 20 times and kept getting transferred or disconnected. FINALLY got through to someone who told me there was a glitch in their system that wasn't linking some school districts to the CalFresh database properly. They had to manually add my kids! You probably need to talk to an actual CalFresh worker to fix it for this year.

OMG that sounds exactly like what might be happening! How did you finally get through to someone? I've been trying for weeks.

I had trouble reaching someone about this exact issue last month! After getting disconnected multiple times, I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that holds your place in the phone queue and calls you back when a real person is available. Saved me from spending hours on hold. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. When I finally got through, the worker confirmed my kids were missing from the P-EBT system despite being on CalFresh and fixed it right away.

Thank you! I'll check out that service. Sounds way better than being on hold forever just to get disconnected.

It worked for me! You still have to wait for a worker, but at least you don't have to personally sit on hold. They called me back when someone picked up.

There's a lot of confusion on this thread. To clarify: 1) P-EBT (Pandemic EBT) was renamed for 2025 but works similarly to past years 2) There is NO separate website to check eligibility - it's automatic based on school meal participation OR CalFresh enrollment 3) For LA County, children who receive free/reduced meals through the school OR are in a CalFresh household should be eligible 4) Distribution timing varies by county, but LA is typically in the July-August timeframe 5) If you didn't receive it last year despite qualifying, your child's school record may not be properly linked to your CalFresh case Contact your county office if you believe there's a data-matching issue. The state recently allocated additional resources to fix these connection problems for 2025 distribution.

This is super helpful! Just adding that the P-EBT amount for summer 2025 is $48 per eligible child per week of summer break (about $450-500 total per child depending on your district's break length). Be sure your mailing address is current in BenefitsCal!

This is exactly what I needed to know, thank you! I'll definitely call the county office to make sure my kids are properly linked in the system.

anyone know when exactly these benefits get loaded?? our school gets out june 10 but last year we didnt get the money until aug

The official CDSS timeline shows LA County distributions beginning July 15, 2025, with a rolling implementation over the following 3 weeks. They don't issue benefits the moment school ends - there's always a processing period.

BTW since you're in LA County make sure you're calling the right number: 866-613-3777 is the dedicated CalFresh line. The general DPSS line often can't help with specific P-EBT issues. And when you talk to someone, specifically mention the "student data matching issue" - that's the internal term they use for the problem. Good luck!!!

Thank you for the specific language to use - that's going to be so helpful! I appreciate everyone's advice here.
