CalFresh P-EBT card showed in informed delivery but never arrived in mail - what's going on?
I'm so worried right now. My son's P-EBT card was showing in the USPS informed delivery email on Monday, but it's already Friday night and still nothing in our mailbox. I thought these cards were supposed to arrive either the same day as informed delivery or the day after? This is the first P-EBT my 7-year-old qualified for this school year, and we really need those benefits. Has anyone else had delays between informed delivery and actual arrival? Is there some kind of tracking I can do? I'm afraid it got lost or stolen and don't know who to contact over the weekend.

•Thank you for letting me know! That makes me feel better. Did you have to do anything or did it just finally show up?

P-EBT cards can sometimes take 3-5 business days to arrive after showing in informed delivery. This is different from regular mail because they're processed through a special secure delivery system. If it doesn't arrive by Monday, you should call the P-EBT customer service line at 877-328-9677. They can tell you if the card was actually mailed and can issue a replacement if needed. Just keep in mind that replacement cards can take up to 15 business days to arrive.

•Thank you so much for the information. I didn't realize P-EBT had a different delivery system than regular mail. I'll give it until Monday before calling that number.

This happened with my daughter's card too! Showed in informed delivery but took almost a WEEK to actually arrive. The most frustrating part was that when I called about it, they told me they couldn't even confirm it was sent until it had been missing 10 DAYS!!! Like seriously?? Kids need to eat NOW not in 10 days! The whole P-EBT system is total garbage compared to regular CalFresh.

•Just to clarify, P-EBT eligibility is determined by whether your child receives free or reduced-price school meals and if their school participates in the National School Lunch Program. It's possible for kids at the same school to have different eligibility. But you're right that the communication about P-EBT has been confusing for many families.

I work for a nonprofit that helps families navigate benefit programs, and we've been seeing major delays with P-EBT cards in the mail system lately. The problem is that both USPS and the P-EBT customer service will point fingers at each other. One strategy that has worked for our clients: if it doesn't arrive by Monday, try calling the P-EBT hotline but use Claimyr (claimyr.com) to avoid the hours-long wait times. They have a service that holds your place in line and calls you back when a representative is available. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. This at least lets you confirm if the card was actually sent and start the replacement process if needed.

•Thank you for the tip! I've tried calling other benefit hotlines before and the wait times are ridiculous. I'll check out that service if I need to call on Monday.

Actually what noone mentioned is that Informed Delivery sometimes shows mail that never actually arrives at all. I've had regular bills and stuff show in the daily digest that just never showed up. So it could be that the card was scanned but then got lost in their system somehow. Definitely call on Monday but don't be surprised if you need a replacement.

•That's worrying! I'm going to give it the weekend but will definitely call Monday morning. Really hope it doesn't come to needing a replacement since that sounds like it would take forever to get.

Based on the 2025 P-EBT distribution schedule, there's actually a specific timeframe for when cards should arrive after showing in informed delivery. For this current phase of distribution, USPS is experiencing 4-7 day delays between scanning and delivery specifically for government benefit cards. This is happening because they're batching these items differently than regular mail. If your card doesn't arrive by Tuesday (giving the full 7 business days from Monday's scan), here's the exact process to follow: 1. Call P-EBT customer service (877-328-9677) 2. Specifically tell them it showed in informed delivery but never arrived 3. Request they verify the card was actually mailed (they can see this in their system) 4. Ask for a "non-receipt report" to be filed 5. Request an expedited replacement (cite financial hardship if applicable) With the expedited process, you can get a replacement card in about 7 business days rather than the standard 15. Also, make sure your address is updated in both the school system and with USPS, as any discrepancy can cause delivery issues.

•This is incredibly helpful information! I didn't know about the "non-receipt report" or that expedited replacements were even an option. Thank you so much for the detailed steps. I'll follow this exactly if it doesn't arrive by Tuesday.

UPDATE: The P-EBT card FINALLY arrived today (Saturday)! Almost a week after showing in informed delivery. The envelope was pretty beat up but the card is intact. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions - I was getting really worried. For anyone else experiencing this, definitely give it at least 5-7 business days before panicking!

•Great news! Just a reminder to activate it right away. The funds should be available immediately after activation, and your son's current benefit period should have about $190 per month loaded for each eligible month.

So relieved to see your update! This is exactly what happened to us last year - the informed delivery showed it but then we waited almost a week worrying about it. I think the P-EBT cards go through some kind of extra security processing that regular mail doesn't, which is why they take longer. Your post will definitely help other parents who are going through the same stress. Hope your son enjoys getting to use his benefits!

•This is such a relief to read! I'm new to this community and just went through something similar with my daughter's P-EBT card. It's so stressful when you're counting on those benefits and the card doesn't show up when expected. Thank you for sharing your experience - it really helps to know that delays like this are normal and not necessarily a sign that something went wrong. The extra security processing explanation makes a lot of sense too.
