P-EBT card delivery delays in Alameda County - USPS issues?

I've been checking my mail like crazy for the past 6 weeks waiting for my kids' P-EBT cards to arrive. Finally today I saw one of their cards in my USPS Informed Delivery preview, but when I checked the mailbox - nothing was there! This has happened with ALL my expected mail this week in Alameda County. Has anyone else had issues with USPS mail delivery lately? I'm worried about these cards getting lost since they contain significant food benefits for my kids. Is the county having delivery problems or should I contact someone about this? I really need these benefits before school starts next month.

That's scary to think about! Have you reported it to USPS yet? I'm wondering if I should wait a few more days or call someone now...

This is unfortunately quite common with the new 2025 P-EBT distribution. The cards are being sent in batches by school district, and USPS has been having significant staffing issues in Alameda County specifically. A few things to know: 1. If you see it in Informed Delivery but don't receive it, file a missing mail report with USPS immediately. Don't wait. 2. After 10 business days of non-delivery, contact the P-EBT helpline at 877-328-9677 to report the card as missing and request a replacement. 3. Keep checking Informed Delivery daily, as sometimes the cards appear in the preview system a day or two before actual delivery. The good news is once the cards are activated, you can set up direct deposit for future benefits if you don't want to deal with mail delivery issues again.

I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM!! Informed Delivery showed THREE pieces of important mail including my son's P-EBT card on Monday, and NONE of them showed up! I went to my local post office (Emeryville branch) and they told me they're having "routing issues" with their new scanning system. Apparently mail is being scanned at the regional facility but then getting delayed or misrouted. They told me to wait 3-5 more days before filing a formal complaint. The whole system is ridiculous. My kids need to eat NOW, not whenever USPS gets their act together!!!!

Ugh, that's so frustrating! Did they give you any way to check if it's actually at the post office or truly lost? I might go to my local branch tomorrow and ask.

I had a similar issue with my daughter's card last month, but it showed up 4 days after appearing in Informed Delivery. I think their system is just a mess right now. Have you tried calling the P-EBT hotline? They might be able to tell you if the card was actually mailed or just generated in their system.

I've tried calling the P-EBT hotline three times today but haven't gotten through - just endless waiting. Did you have to wait a long time to talk to someone?

I work with families applying for benefits, and this mail issue has been affecting many of my clients in Alameda County. Here's what I recommend: 1. File a service request with USPS online at https://usps.force.com/emailus/s/ 2. While waiting for mail resolution, you can call the P-EBT hotline to check if your card has actually been issued and mailed. Be prepared for long wait times. 3. If you're struggling to reach someone at the P-EBT hotline, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). Many of my clients have had success with this service - it keeps your place in line and calls you back when a representative is available. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 4. In the meantime, contact your children's school district office. Some districts have emergency food assistance programs for families waiting on P-EBT benefits. Hope this helps! The P-EBT program is really valuable, but these delivery issues are unfortunately common this distribution cycle.

Thank you so much for these detailed steps! I'll try filing that USPS request tonight. And I'll check out that Claimyr service - at this point I'll try anything to get through to someone who can help. Didn't know about the school district emergency assistance either, that's good to know.

anyone know if you can pick these cards up somewhere instead of waiting for mail? my neighbor said something about going to the county office but idk if thats true

Unfortunately, P-EBT cards cannot be picked up at county offices - they're issued by the state, not local CalFresh offices. They can only be mailed. This is different from regular EBT cards which can sometimes be issued in person at county offices in emergency situations.

OMG that's terrifying! Can someone actually use the P-EBT card if they steal it from the mail? Don't you need a PIN or something?

Good news - I just checked the P-EBT website and they've posted an alert about mailing delays in several counties including Alameda. They're saying to wait up to 15 business days after seeing it in Informed Delivery before reporting it missing. They're also extending the benefit redemption period by 30 days to account for these delays. To answer the question about card security - yes, P-EBT cards require activation and PIN setup, so a stolen card can't be used without the activation information that's sent separately. Still, report any suspected lost or stolen cards right away.

That is good news, thanks for sharing! At least they're acknowledging the problem. I'll probably give it another week before I officially report mine missing. Really appreciate all the helpful info from everyone!
