CalFresh P-EBT Summer 2025 distribution by last name - 'B' surnames still waiting?

I'm getting really concerned about our family's P-EBT summer food benefits for 2025. My last name starts with B (Barrera), and we still haven't received our cards in the mail. My kids qualify for free school lunch, so we should be eligible for the summer P-EBT according to the notice I got from their school. I've noticed several people posting on Facebook that they received their cards already, including families with last names starting with C, D, and even M! I thought they were sending these out alphabetically? Has anyone else with a 'B' last name received their summer P-EBT cards yet? Should I call the county office or is there a specific P-EBT number to check on status? This is really stressful since we were counting on those funds for summer groceries.

I'm a Rodriguez and we just got our P-EBT cards yesterday. My sister-in-law is a Benson and she got hers last week, so they're definitely not going strictly alphabetical. The CDSS website says they're sending them out in batches based on your county and school district, not just alphabetically. Maybe check which wave your county is in for the Summer 2025 distribution?

Thanks for the info! That's really strange because we're in Los Angeles County and I thought we were supposed to be in the first wave. Do you know if there's a way to check our specific status somewhere? I'm worried our card got lost in the mail or something.

They are NOT doing alphabetical distribution for the Summer 2025 P-EBT! This is a common misconception. The current schedule is based on school district and county, with each county assigned to specific distribution waves. You can check your county's wave assignment on the CDSS website. Also, remember that P-EBT is different from regular CalFresh - even though they both load onto EBT cards, they have separate customer service lines. For P-EBT status questions, you need to call 877-328-9677 (not your regular CalFresh number).

Oh gosh, thank you! I've been calling my regular CalFresh number and getting nowhere. I'll try the P-EBT specific number tomorrow morning. Do you know how long it takes them to answer? I've heard horror stories about people waiting for hours.

Last time I called that P-EBT number i was on hold for 2 HOURS before someone picked up!! if u need to get through faster try claimyr.com - it basically calls for u and gets u to a person without the wait. saved me so much time when i had issues with my kids cards. there's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 not sure if it works for the P-EBT line specifically but worth a try

Ughhh the whole P-EBT rollout is a DISASTER this year!!! We're a Baker family and haven't gotten ANYTHING yet either. Meanwhile my neighbor (last name Wilson) already got theirs 2 weeks ago. The whole alphabetical thing is clearly BS. When I called they just gave me the runaround saying "it's coming" but couldn't tell me when. I'm so fed up with this system - my kids are home all day during summer and our grocery bills are through the roof. They promised these benefits would be available by early June and here we are in July still waiting!! 😡

same here!! Brown family and still nothing. But my coworker who has an A last name just got hers yesterday?? Makes no sense. They definitely aren't doing alphabetical distibition like they claimed.

The P-EBT Summer 2025 distribution schedule is based on a combination of factors: county, school district, and then within those groups, they do use some alphabetical sorting, but it's not strictly A-Z across the whole state. For Los Angeles County specifically, they're doing 5 separate waves of distribution running from June 15 through August 20, 2025. If you qualify through free/reduced lunch programs, your card should arrive in the appropriate wave. One important note: if you moved in the last year and didn't update your address with your child's school, your card might be sent to your old address. You can request an address update and card replacement by calling the P-EBT hotline at 877-328-9677, but be prepared for long wait times.

This is super helpful information, thank you! We did move in April, but I updated our address with the school right away. I wonder if that could still be causing the delay though? Maybe the address change didn't get processed in time for the P-EBT distribution. I'll definitely call that hotline.

Just to clarify something important that people are getting confused about: Summer P-EBT 2025 is completely separate from regular CalFresh benefits. Even if you already receive CalFresh, the P-EBT benefits will come on a separate card (unless you received P-EBT previously and still have that card). Also, here's the official distribution schedule for Los Angeles County: - Wave 1 (June 15-30): School Districts A-F - Wave 2 (July 1-15): School Districts G-L - Wave 3 (July 16-31): School Districts M-R - Wave 4 (Aug 1-15): School Districts S-Z - Wave 5 (Aug 16-20): Special circumstances and corrections So which school district are your children in? That will determine your wave more than your last name.

Thank you for the detailed schedule! My kids are in Glendale Unified School District, so we should be in Wave 2 (July 1-15). Today's July 12th, so I guess we're still within the window, but it's getting close to the end. I'll give it a few more days before calling. And yes, we do have CalFresh already, but I understand this is separate. My neighbor got a completely different card for her kids' P-EBT benefits.

Wait a minute - I'm in LAUSD and our last name is Baker, so by this schedule we should have been in Wave 1, but still nothing!! This just proves the whole system is broken. I'm calling AGAIN tomorrow and not hanging up until they give me a straight answer!!

my kids got there p-ebt cards last summer but this year nothing yet. do i need to apply again? i thought it was automatic if they get free lunch at school

You don't need to apply again. P-EBT Summer 2025 is automatic for children who received free or reduced-price meals during the 2024-2025 school year. If your children still qualify for free or reduced lunch, you should receive the cards in the mail based on your school district's distribution wave. If your children previously received P-EBT, the new benefits may be loaded onto those existing cards, so check the balance if you still have them.

Just a heads up - my friend who works for CDSS told me that if the P-EBT card gets returned to sender (wrong address, etc.), they don't automatically try to contact you. You have to proactively call them to update your address and request a new card. And with the backlog of calls they're experiencing right now, it could take weeks to get through. Might be worth checking with your post office too if you think it might have gotten lost in the mail.

That's really good to know! Our mail has been pretty unreliable lately, so I'll check with our local post office too. I appreciate everyone's help with this - it's been really stressful trying to figure out what's going on.

has anyone had their old p-ebt card from last year work for this years benefits? i still have my kids cards from last summer and wondering if the new benefits will just load onto those or if we're supposed to get new cards entirely?

If you still have P-EBT cards from previous distributions, the new Summer 2025 benefits should be automatically loaded onto those existing cards. You can check the balance by calling the number on the back of the card or visiting the EBT website. If your cards were lost or discarded, you'll need to call the P-EBT hotline (877-328-9677) to request replacements.

Just wanted to share my experience as another family still waiting! We're the Martinez family in Orange County and haven't received our Summer 2025 P-EBT cards yet either. My kids are in Anaheim City School District and qualify for free lunch. I called the P-EBT hotline yesterday (877-328-9677) and after waiting about 90 minutes, the representative told me that Orange County is running about 2-3 weeks behind the original schedule due to processing delays. She said our cards should arrive by the end of July. It's frustrating but at least I got a timeline! For those of you in LA County, it might be worth calling to see if there are similar delays in your area. The rep also mentioned that if you don't receive your card by August 1st, you should definitely call back to report it as potentially lost in the mail.

Thank you so much for sharing this update! It's really helpful to know that Orange County is running behind schedule - that gives me hope that maybe LA County is experiencing similar delays. I'm going to wait until the end of July like your rep suggested before calling again. It's such a relief to hear from someone who actually got through and got real information. I was starting to worry that our application got lost or something went wrong with our eligibility. Fingers crossed our cards arrive soon!

I'm in a similar situation with my family - last name starts with B (Bailey) and we're in San Bernardino County. Still haven't received our Summer 2025 P-EBT cards either, even though my kids qualify through their school's free lunch program. Reading through all these comments is both reassuring and frustrating - it sounds like the distribution is way more complicated than they initially explained and there are delays everywhere! I'm going to try calling that P-EBT hotline number (877-328-9677) that several people mentioned, though I'm not looking forward to potentially waiting hours on hold. Has anyone had luck getting through during specific times of day? I'm wondering if calling first thing in the morning or later in the evening might have shorter wait times.
