Anyone in 559 area received P-EBT for kids with last name B? (2025 distribution)

I've been checking my mail every day for P-EBT cards for my 2 school-aged children and haven't gotten anything yet. We're in the Fresno area (559) and our last name starts with B. The school said all the kids who qualify for free lunch should be getting these cards automatically, but it's already been over 3 weeks since my neighbor got hers (last name A). Has anyone else in Central Valley with last name starting with B received their P-EBT cards yet? I'm wondering if I should call the P-EBT hotline or wait longer since they might be going alphabetically? My kids' school definitely participates in the free lunch program.

I'm in Visalia (also 559) with last name starting with B and just got our P-EBT cards yesterday! They're definitely still sending them out. The distribution seems really random though - my sister's last name starts with C and she got hers two weeks ago. If you're really worried, try the P-EBT hotline, but be prepared to wait FOREVER. I tried calling once and gave up after 45 minutes on hold. Claimyr.com helped me actually get through when I called a second time - they wait on hold for you and call when someone picks up. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8

Thx for letting me know! Maybe our cards are on the way then. Did yours come in a regular white envelope? I'm worried I might have thrown it away thinking it was junk mail 😬

Oh good to know about the blue envelope! I'll keep watching for it then. Was the amount what you expected?

The P-EBT cards are not related to CalFresh, even though they use the same EBT system. P-EBT is a separate pandemic-era program for school children that has been extended through 2025. You might want to check on the P-EBT website or contact them directly at 877-328-9677 for status updates. If you're also seeking information about regular CalFresh benefits, that would require contacting your county office directly.

I thought they were connected since both use the EBT system and my friend who works at the county said they're both nutrition benefits. Thanks for clarifying though! I'll try the P-EBT number. We don't currently get regular CalFresh but might apply soon since groceries keep getting more expensive.

Yes, they do use the same EBT payment system and both provide nutrition assistance, but they're administered differently. P-EBT is run through schools and the state education department while CalFresh goes through county social services. Definitely consider applying for CalFresh if you're struggling with food costs - a family of three can qualify with gross monthly income up to around $3,250 in 2025.

I wonder if they are going by school district and not just alphabet? My daughter's friend (last name W) got hers last week but we're still waiting (last name D). Same school. So confusing!!

It's definitely not strictly alphabetical. From what I understand, they batch them by various factors including school district, eligibility verification date, and sometimes grade level. When I called about my daughter's card, they explained they process in batches of 200-300k cards at a time, and the system is extremely backed up this year due to increased participation rates. Keep in mind that the 2025 P-EBT distribution is taking much longer than previous years because they've expanded eligibility criteria considerably. If you're still waiting after 30 days from the announced distribution start, that's when they recommend calling the hotline.

MY KIDS NEVER GOT THEIRS LAST YEAR AT ALL!!!!! I called that stupid hotline like 10 times and they kept saying "it's coming" but NOTHING!!!! Now this year they're saying my kids will get it but I don't believe them anymore. The whole system is BROKEN. They just don't want to give poor families the help they promise!!!

I worked with families who had similar issues last year. If your children never received cards, you should request a benefit reissuance rather than waiting for this year's card. You need to specifically say "I'm requesting a benefit reissuance for the missing 2024 school year P-EBT benefits." They keep records of unclaimed benefits for three years. Also make sure your address is current with the school district since that's where they pull the mailing information from.

I DID ask for reissuance!! Multiple times!!! They kept saying it was "in process" but nothing ever came. Then they started saying the benefit period expired. I'm just so tired of fighting the system.

To clarify some confusion here - the 2025 P-EBT distribution schedule was announced in February. For Central Valley counties, they started mailing in early April and should finish by late May according to the official timeline. They're processing about 250,000 cards per week statewide. The amount for each child is calculated based on school attendance records showing how many eligible days they participated in the free/reduced lunch program. For full-year participation, it should be around $1,400 per child for the 2024-2025 school year, distributed in quarterly payments. If you enrolled your children in free/reduced lunch after the initial data pull in January, there may be an additional delay. The system does not strictly go by alphabet, but rather in batches based on when eligibility was confirmed.

mine had $340 on it. is that normal for the first payment? dont understand why its not the full amount

Yes, that sounds correct for the first quarterly payment for a child who qualified for the entire period. They're doing four payments of approximately $340-360 each quarter this year instead of one lump sum. The next payment should load automatically to the same card in about 2-3 months.

Just to add some perspective - I help families navigate these benefits professionally. The P-EBT distribution is completely separate from CalFresh, though they do use the same EBT card system. P-EBT cards come in a distinctive blue envelope with California state markings and require activation with a PIN you set up. For anyone still waiting, don't panic yet. The Central Valley distribution for 2025 is still ongoing through May. If you haven't received anything by the first week of June, that's when I'd recommend calling the P-EBT hotline (877-328-9677). Make sure your address is current with your child's school, as that's the address they use. If you're struggling with food costs while waiting, consider applying for regular CalFresh benefits, which provide monthly food assistance based on household income. A family of 4 can qualify with gross monthly income up to about $4,100 in 2025.

Thank you! This is really helpful. Do you know if kids who get free lunch through the school's CEP (Community Eligibility Provision) program automatically qualify for P-EBT? Our whole school gets free lunch regardless of income.

•

Yes! Students at CEP schools do automatically qualify for P-EBT. The school should have submitted all student information to the state for processing. That's actually one reason for some of the delays - the massive increase in participating schools through CEP has added several hundred thousand more eligible children to the system compared to previous years.

UPDATE: Our P-EBT cards finally arrived yesterday! Blue envelope just like you all said. Each card has $345 on it for my two kids. Thanks everyone for the help and info. I guess they really are still working through the distribution. For anyone still waiting, hang in there!

Glad you got them! Make sure you activate them right away and create a PIN. Sometimes they can get deactivated if you wait too long.
