P-EBT 4.0 distribution in Sacramento - kids eligible but card never arrived?
Has anyone in Sacramento County received their P-EBT 4.0 cards yet? I have two children (9 and 7) who should be eligible since they get free lunch at school. My neighbor got hers last month, but nothing has shown up for us. I called the P-EBT hotline but got stuck in an endless automated system. My kids' school confirmed they're on the list for benefits. Do I need to contact CalFresh even though we're not currently on regular CalFresh benefits? Getting worried since I heard the funds expire if not used within a certain timeframe. Anyone know what I should do or who specifically to contact?

I'm in Sac County and received our P-EBT 4.0 cards about 3 weeks ago for my kids. They staggered the distribution by school district though. Which district are your kids in? Some haven't been fully processed yet. Also, make sure your mailing address is updated with the school - they use whatever address is in the school system. If you've moved in the last year, that might be the issue.

•We're in Twin Rivers district and haven't moved. Our address is definitely correct with the school. Is there a way to check the status? I'm worried the cards got lost in the mail or something.

•The P-EBT 4.0 program actually issues just one card per household, not per child like they did with previous versions. The benefit amounts for all eligible children should be combined onto that single card. Check if the benefit amount on the card reflects multiple children's benefits (should be around $1,428 per eligible child for the full period). If you have custodial arrangements where the kids split time between households, that could complicate things.

Our school sent email saying Twin Rivers is in the May distribution group

•Really?? That's actually super helpful! I didn't get any email from the school about this. Do you know if they're sending them out gradually throughout May or all at once?

I had the same problem with P-EBT 3.0 last year and turns out the card was sent to my old address even though I updated it with the school. The system the state uses apparently pulls from some older database and doesn't always sync with current school records!!!! So frustrating!!! I had to request a replacement card and it took TWO MONTHS to arrive. By then almost half the benefits had expired!! This whole program is so badly managed.

Twin Rivers is definitely in the May distribution group. P-EBT 4.0 issuances are happening from March through June 2025, with different districts scheduled for different months. Your cards should arrive by the end of May, but if not, here's what you need to do: 1. Wait until the end of your distribution month (May 31) 2. If not received, call the P-EBT hotline at 877-328-9677 3. When the automated system asks for a card number (which you don't have), press # repeatedly until it transfers you 4. Request a replacement card Keep in mind that for P-EBT 4.0, the benefits don't expire for 274 days after issuance, so you'll have time to use them once the card arrives. Also, P-EBT is separate from regular CalFresh, so you don't need to contact your county CalFresh office about this issue.

•Thank you so much for the detailed info! That trick with pressing # repeatedly is exactly what I needed. I'll wait until the end of May and then follow your steps if nothing arrives. Such a relief to know the benefits don't expire quickly.

I had such a nightmare getting through on that P-EBT hotline when my card never showed up. After days of trying, I found this service called Claimyr that got me through to a real person in like 15 minutes! They called the P-EBT line for me and then connected me when they reached a human. Saved me hours of frustration. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. Worth it for P-EBT issues since the regular tricks for getting through don't work well on that specific hotline.

•Does that actually work? Sounds sketchy

•It's legit! They just call and wait on hold for you. When they get a real person, they call your phone and connect you. Saved me like 2 hours of hold music and getting disconnected repeatedly.

Just an update for anyone following this thread - I checked with a friend who works for SCUSD, and she confirmed Twin Rivers P-EBT cards started going out last week and will continue through May 20th. They're going out in alphabetical order by the child's last name. So depending on your last name, you might not get yours until the end of next week.

•Our last name starts with W, so we'll probably be in the last batch. That explains the wait! Thanks so much for checking.

One important thing to know about P-EBT 4.0 that's different from previous issuances: if you already have a CalFresh EBT card, the P-EBT benefits will NOT be loaded onto that card. P-EBT 4.0 is always issued on separate white P-EBT cards, even for families currently receiving regular CalFresh. This is different from how some of the earlier pandemic EBT benefits were handled, which causes a lot of confusion. Also, the white P-EBT cards don't have your name printed on them, just the generic "P-EBT" name, so don't throw it away thinking it's junk mail!

•wish they would just put it on our regular ebt cards!! too many cards to keep track of!!!

•I completely agree! The separate card system creates so much unnecessary confusion. Unfortunately, it's because P-EBT is administered by California Department of Education while regular EBT is through the Department of Social Services. Different funding streams, different systems that don't talk to each other properly.

This whole P-EBT thing is so frustrating. My friend in Elk Grove got cards for her kids who AREN'T even on free lunch while my kids who DEFINITELY qualify haven't gotten anything. The entire system is broken and they just don't care about getting food to kids who need it!!! I spent HOURS trying to talk to someone just to be told to "wait" - like my kids can wait to eat??????

•That's concerning about your friend in Elk Grove. P-EBT 4.0 should only go to students who qualify for free/reduced meals through the National School Lunch Program. If your friend's children aren't eligible, that could be an error. Regarding your situation, if you've confirmed your children are approved for free/reduced lunch and your school district's distribution period has passed, you should definitely request a replacement card through the hotline.

UPDATE: Our P-EBT card finally arrived yesterday! You were right about the alphabetical distribution - our last name starts with W so we got it toward the end. The card had combined benefits for both kids ($2,856 total). Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!
