Anyone in NorCal received school-aged P-EBT cards for 2025 yet? Mine still pending
It's already mid-April 2025 and I'm still waiting for my kids' P-EBT cards to arrive. The CalFresh website says they started distribution in March for Northern California counties, but nobody I know has gotten them. I have 3 school-aged children who qualify for free lunch, and we really could use the extra food assistance. My regular CalFresh benefits barely cover half the month now with these inflated grocery prices. Has anyone in Shasta, Sacramento, or other NorCal counties received their cards yet? The hotline just gives me a recording saying 'benefits are being issued' but no timeline. Getting worried since last year's funds were so helpful.

I'm in Sacramento County and got P-EBT cards for my two elementary schoolers last week. They came in separate envelopes about 3 days apart even though I applied for them at the same time. Check to make sure your mailing address is current in the BenefitsCal portal. Last year my neighbor's cards got returned because she moved and forgot to update her address with the school district.

•Thanks for letting me know! I'll double check my address in BenefitsCal. We did move last summer but I updated everything with the school... hopefully I did it with CalFresh too. Did your cards come with a certain amount already loaded? Last year it was $1,490 per kid I think.

•It's not alphabetical by county. P-EBT distribution for school-aged children follows a schedule based on county processing capacity and school district verification timelines. They're processing in batches of approximately 100,000 cards per week statewide. You can check the specific distribution timeline for your county on the CDSS website under P-EBT 5.0 information. Most Northern California counties should be complete by May 15th, 2025.

I'm in Shasta County and we've been waiting too!! So frustrating when they announce these benefits and then take FOREVER to actually get them to families who need them. My kids' school sent home a flyer in January saying to expect them in "early spring" but it's already mid-April! Called the P-EBT hotline 3 times and got disconnected EVERY SINGLE TIME after waiting 45+ minutes. This system is a JOKE. Anyone know how to actually talk to a real person about this??

•If you're trying to get through to someone about P-EBT or any CalFresh issues, I recently discovered Claimyr and it literally saved me hours of frustration. I was in the same boat - kept getting disconnected from the P-EBT hotline after long waits. Claimyr basically waits on hold for you and calls you back when a real person is on the line. Just go to claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. I got through to a P-EBT specialist in about 20 minutes instead of waiting for hours. The specialist confirmed my cards were being processed and gave me an actual timeframe.

i got my p-ebt cards last week but they were for my foster kids not my biological kids which is weird??? both should qualify for free lunch. im in butte county btw. anybody know if they send them in batches or something? also the amount loaded was different than last year it was $1,850 per kid this time

•The 2025 P-EBT benefit amount increased to $1,850 per eligible child (up from $1,490 in 2024) due to rising food costs. Foster children often get processed first because they have a different eligibility verification pathway - they automatically qualify without additional documentation. For your biological children, verify they're correctly marked as free/reduced lunch eligible in your school district's system. If you're receiving regular CalFresh, they should automatically qualify, but sometimes there are data matching issues between systems.

I work for an elementary school in Placer County, and we've been telling parents that P-EBT cards are being distributed in phases throughout April and May. The most common issue we're seeing is outdated mailing addresses. Make sure both your school district AND CalFresh/BenefitsCal have your current address. Also, P-EBT is separate from regular CalFresh - different funding streams and administration, so calling the regular CalFresh line might not help. The dedicated P-EBT hotline (833-979-3329) is your best resource, but yes, wait times are extremely long. If your children qualify for free/reduced meals through the school, they should receive P-EBT regardless of whether you get regular CalFresh benefits.

•Thank you for this info! I didn't realize the school district's address and CalFresh address both matter. I'll double check with my kids' school tomorrow. Do you happen to know if they send all the cards for one family together, or could they come at different times? And will they just appear in the mail or do we get some kind of notification first?

UPDATE: Just got a text message saying my third child's P-EBT card was just mailed today (April 14). So they definitely seem to be sending them out in batches, even within the same household. Check your phone for text notifications from CDSS if you provided a cell number on your CalFresh application!

•Thanks for the update! I haven't received any texts yet but hopefully that means mine are coming soon too. I'll keep an eye out for text messages.

•They're related but different programs. CalFresh (sometimes called food stamps or SNAP) is the ongoing food assistance program for eligible households. P-EBT (Pandemic EBT) started during COVID but has been extended through 2025. P-EBT specifically provides food benefits to children who would have received free/reduced-price school meals if not for school closures or reduced attendance. Even though schools are fully open now, the program continues to provide supplemental food benefits to eligible students. If your children are approved for free/reduced meals at school, they should qualify for P-EBT regardless of your regular CalFresh status. The benefits come on separate cards from your regular EBT.

For everyone still waiting, here's some helpful information about the 2025 P-EBT rollout: 1. No application is needed if your children already receive free or reduced-price school meals 2. Distribution for Northern California counties began March 15 and continues through May 30 3. Cards are mailed directly to the address on file with your school district 4. The 2025 benefit amount is $1,850 per eligible child 5. Cards for children in the same household may arrive on different days 6. You'll receive a separate P-EBT card for each eligible child 7. Text notifications are sent if you have a mobile number on file 8. The P-EBT hotline (833-979-3329) can verify if cards have been issued 9. Once received, you must activate the card and create a PIN 10. Benefits remain available for 274 days from issuance If you haven't received your cards by May 30, then you should follow up with both your school district and the P-EBT hotline.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I had no idea the benefits stay available for 274 days - that's good to know we don't have to spend it all right away. Last year we budgeted it to help throughout the summer when the kids are home and eating more.

Update: I finally got through to someone after using that Claimyr service the other commenter suggested. The rep confirmed my kids' cards were processed on April 10 and should arrive within 7-10 business days! She also explained that they're sending them out by school district, not by county, which is why some people in the same county are getting them at different times. Just sharing in case it helps others know what to expect!

•That's great news! Glad you got some actual information. The school district explanation makes sense - my kids go to different schools in the same district and got them the same week.
