If I could give 10 stars I would

If I could give 10 stars I would If I could give 10 stars I would Such an amazing service so needed during the times when EDD almost never picks up Claimyr gets me on the phone with EDD every time without fail faster. A much needed service without Claimyr I would have never received the payment I needed to support me during my postpartum recovery. Thank you so much Claimyr!

Really made a difference

Really made a difference, save me time and energy from going to a local office for making the call.

Worth not wasting your time calling for hours.

Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

An incredibly helpful service

An incredibly helpful service! Got me connected to a CA EDD agent without major hassle (outside of EDD's agents dropping calls – which Claimyr has free protection for). If you need to file a new claim and can't do it online, pay the $ to Claimyr to get the process started. Absolutely worth it!

Consistent,frustration free, quality Service.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. Dropped a couple times but each reconnected not long after and was mission accomplished, thanks to Claimyr.

IT WORKS!! Not a scam!

I tried for weeks to get thru to EDD PFL program with no luck. I gave this a try thinking it may be a scam. OMG! It worked and They got thru within an hour and my claim is going to finally get paid!! I upgraded to the $60 call. Best $60 spent!

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm about 3 weeks into using CalFresh and just had my first EBT refund experience at Target yesterday. The customer service rep told me "definitely within 24 hours, probably sooner" but after reading all these real experiences, I can see that was way too optimistic. It's honestly mind-boggling that every single major retailer seems to use the same script about quick processing times when the reality is so different. The explanation about business days vs calendar days makes total sense - I had no idea that's how the system actually works. Based on everyone's shared experiences here, I'll stop expecting my refund today and just plan on waiting until early next week. It's so frustrating that we have to learn the real timelines from community knowledge instead of getting honest information from stores, but I'm really grateful this discussion exists. Thank you especially to the county office workers who explained how the EBT system actually functions behind the scenes - that's information you just can't get anywhere else!

Welcome to the CalFresh community and thanks for sharing your Target experience! That "definitely within 24 hours, probably sooner" promise sounds so familiar - it's like they all read from the same playbook without understanding how EBT actually works. I'm also pretty new to using these benefits (started about 2 months ago) and this thread has been such an education. Yesterday was only day 1 for your refund, so based on everyone's experiences here, you're looking at probably Tuesday or Wednesday of next week before it shows up. The consistency across all these stories - from Walmart to Costco to Target - really shows this is a training problem across the entire retail industry. It's honestly wild that stores haven't figured out how to give accurate EBT refund timeframes after all these years, but at least we have this community to share the real deal. Definitely try not to stress about checking your balance constantly - that waiting game is the worst part!

This thread is seriously a goldmine of information! I'm pretty new to CalFresh (just got approved about 6 weeks ago) and thankfully haven't needed to deal with returns yet, but wow - the disconnect between what stores promise and reality is absolutely shocking. Every single person's experience here follows the same pattern: stores say "24-48 hours" but it actually takes 5+ business days minimum. It's clearly a widespread training issue across the entire retail industry where staff just don't understand that EBT processes completely differently from regular debit/credit cards. The explanations from county office workers about business days, holiday delays, and how the EBT system actually works have been incredibly valuable - that's insider knowledge you just can't get from store customer service. I'm definitely saving this entire discussion for future reference so I'll know to expect at least a full week for any EBT refunds, regardless of what promises I get at the checkout. Thanks to everyone for sharing their real experiences - this community knowledge is way more reliable than any official information I've come across!

Just logged into BenefitsCal and you were right - there was a task asking for my rental agreement! It was added 3 days ago and I had no idea. Uploading it right now. THANK YOU for this suggestion, seriously might have saved my application from being delayed even longer.

Oh wow, that's such a relief that you found the missing task! I had the exact same thing happen to me - there was a request for bank statements that I completely missed for like a week. It's so frustrating that they don't send email notifications for new tasks even when you have an email on file. Once you upload that rental agreement, your case should move pretty quickly. In my experience, San Bernardino processes applications within 3-5 business days once they have all the required documents. You're so close to the finish line! Keep checking your BenefitsCal account every day or two just in case they need anything else. Fingers crossed you'll have your approval letter this week! 🤞

@Chippale I just tried mine about 30 minutes ago and it worked fine - I'm in Orange County. Based on what others have shared in this thread, it might be worth checking: 1) ebt.ca.gov for any system status updates, 2) trying a different ATM or bank, 3) getting cash back at a grocery store instead of using an ATM, 4) calling the customer service number on your card to check for account issues. If you're getting specific error messages, that info might help troubleshoot. Since jazmin gomez is also having issues in the Valley, there might be regional problems. What county are you in and what error message are you seeing?

@Chippale I'm also having issues right now! I'm in Riverside County and tried 2 different ATMs this morning with no luck - getting "transaction declined" each time. My food benefits work fine but can't access cash. Seems like there might be another regional outage happening. Have you tried calling the customer service line yet? I'm going to try the grocery store cash back method that others mentioned while I figure this out.

I'm having the same issue right now in Sacramento County! Tried 4 different ATMs this morning and all giving me "transaction declined" even though my balance shows the money is there. Food benefits work fine, just can't access cash. Based on reading through this thread, it seems like there might be another regional outage happening. I'm going to try the grocery store cash back method while I call customer service. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here - it's so helpful to know it's not just my card acting up!

I'm experiencing the same problem in Kern County! Been trying since this morning and getting "transaction declined" at every ATM I've tried. My food benefits are working fine too, so it's definitely just the cash portion. Reading through this thread has been so helpful - I had no idea this was a recurring issue with the EBT system. Going to try the cash back at grocery store method that everyone's mentioned while I call customer service. It's really reassuring to know it's not just isolated card problems. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this community is such a lifesaver when these system issues happen!

Wow, reading through this thread as someone new to CalFresh - this is exactly the kind of info I wish I had known before! I just got approved last month and have been using different apps to manage my benefits without realizing they could cause these kinds of conflicts. Thank you especially to @Mason Kaczka for that detailed breakdown of how to get through to customer service - I'm screenshotting that phone sequence! And @Nina Chan that screenshot tip is brilliant, definitely doing that going forward. It's honestly scary how easy it is to get locked out of something as essential as food benefits. Makes me wonder if there should be some kind of warning in these third-party apps about potential EBT compatibility issues? Seems like this happens way too often based on everyone's responses. Glad you got it sorted out @Sebastian Scott! Stories like this make me so grateful for communities like this where people actually help each other navigate these complicated systems.

Welcome to CalFresh @Ava Hernandez! You're absolutely right that there should be better warnings about third-party app compatibility. I've been on CalFresh for about 6 months now and learned the hard way (like many of us here) that these banking apps don't always play nice with EBT cards. One thing I wish someone had told me early on - also be careful with automatic savings features in apps like Qapital or Digit that round up purchases. They can sometimes try to pull from your EBT card which will get declined and can flag your account. Stick to the official ConnectEBT app/website for anything EBT-related. This community really is a lifesaver when the official systems fail us. The county workers mean well but they don't always know about these app conflicts since they're dealing with so many different issues. Having people who've actually been through these situations is invaluable!

This whole thread is SO helpful! I'm relatively new to using CalFresh and had no idea about these potential issues with third-party apps. I've been using Mint to track my spending across all my accounts including EBT and now I'm worried it might cause problems too. The phone tree bypass info from @Mason Kaczka is gold - I'm saving those exact steps. And @Nina Chan's screenshot tip is genius, definitely implementing that immediately. It's really frustrating that the state promotes all these "convenient" digital tools but doesn't warn people about compatibility issues. Like, they want us to go paperless and use apps, but then the apps can lock us out of our food benefits?? The irony is not lost on me. @Sebastian Scott so glad you got this resolved quickly! Having hungry kids and no access to benefits sounds absolutely terrifying. This community really came through with practical solutions when the official systems failed you. Does anyone know if there's a list somewhere of which apps are actually SAFE to use with EBT cards? Seems like something the state should provide given how many people are getting burned by this.

@Samantha Johnson great question about safe apps! From what I ve'learned lurking here and through my own trial and error, the safest approach is to ONLY use the official ConnectEBT app/website for any EBT management. Even read-only apps like Mint can sometimes cause issues if they try to verify balances too frequently. I actually called the EBT customer service line a few weeks ago to ask this exact question, and the rep told me they only recommend their official channels because third-party apps use different authentication systems that can trigger security locks. She said even harmless "budget" tracking apps can sometimes ping the EBT system in ways that look suspicious to their fraud detection. It s'super annoying that there s'no official list though - you d'think with how common this problem is, the state would publish some guidance! Until then, this community seems to be our best resource for real-world info about what works and what doesn t.'The screenshot tip from @Nina Chan has already saved me once when I had a balance discrepancy - having that proof made the customer service call way easier!

As someone who just started working nights at a call center (11PM-7AM), this thread has been incredibly helpful! I had no idea about so many of these workarounds. The grocery pickup scheduling idea is genius - I'm definitely going to try placing orders during my break and scheduling pickup for right after my shift. I've been trying to tough it out by staying awake until stores open at 6AM but I'm usually so exhausted by then that I make poor shopping decisions or forget half the things I need. The emergency stockpile suggestion makes so much sense too. It's really frustrating that the EBT system doesn't have any flexibility for those of us who work non-traditional hours, but at least there are ways to work around it. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and tips - this community is awesome for supporting each other through these challenges!

Welcome to the night shift life! It really is tough navigating all these systems when they're designed for 9-5 workers. I've been working nights for about a year now and this whole thread has given me some new ideas too. The delivery option that @Yara Nassar mentioned is something I hadn't thought of - paying a small delivery fee might actually be worth it to avoid the whole "zombie shopping at 6AM" experience! I'm curious, have you figured out yet which day of the month your benefits typically load? That was something that took me a while to nail down when I first started getting CalFresh, and knowing the exact date helps so much with planning your pickup orders and emergency stockpile timing.

Hey @Eve Freeman! I totally get the exhausted shopping issue - I made so many impulse buys and forgot essentials when I was trying to shop right after my shift ended. One thing that's really helped me is using the notes app on my phone to keep a running grocery list throughout the week, organized by store sections (produce, dairy, etc.) so even when I'm brain-dead I can just follow it methodically. Also, if you haven't already, definitely sign up for your store's app - a lot of them let you create shopping lists and even show you the aisle numbers for items, which makes those zombie shopping trips way more efficient. The night shift life is rough but we've got to look out for each other!

I work 12AM-8AM at a hospital and I've been dealing with this same frustration for months! One thing that's really helped me is using grocery delivery services on my days off - I'll place the order around 11PM when I'm naturally awake, and schedule delivery for late morning when I wake up. It costs a few dollars in delivery fees but honestly it's worth it to avoid the whole "wait until 6AM then shop while exhausted" cycle. I've also started keeping a list in my phone of quick meal ideas that use shelf-stable ingredients, so when I do have to do that zombie shopping at 6AM I'm not wandering around trying to remember what I actually need to buy. It's so frustrating that the system doesn't account for people who work overnight - like we don't need food too! But at least we can share strategies to work around it.

0 coins

The grocery delivery on days off is such a smart approach! I never thought about timing it for when I naturally wake up later in the day. That actually sounds way more sustainable than trying to force myself into a 6AM shopping routine when I'm completely drained. Do you have any specific delivery services you'd recommend that work well with EBT? And I love the idea of keeping a quick meal list - I'm definitely going to start one because you're so right about wandering around confused when you're that tired. It really is frustrating that these systems assume everyone works traditional hours, but I'm grateful for communities like this where we can share what actually works in real life!

I'm just starting my first night shift job next week (11PM-7AM) and getting CalFresh for the first time, so this whole thread has been incredibly educational! The delivery timing strategy you mentioned makes so much sense - work with your natural schedule instead of fighting it. I'm definitely going to start building that emergency stockpile right away and figure out the grocery pickup/delivery options in my area before I even start work. It's really eye-opening how many logistical challenges there are with these systems when you don't work typical hours. Thanks to everyone sharing their real-world solutions - this is exactly the kind of practical advice I needed to see!
