If I could give 10 stars I would

If I could give 10 stars I would If I could give 10 stars I would Such an amazing service so needed during the times when EDD almost never picks up Claimyr gets me on the phone with EDD every time without fail faster. A much needed service without Claimyr I would have never received the payment I needed to support me during my postpartum recovery. Thank you so much Claimyr!

Really made a difference

Really made a difference, save me time and energy from going to a local office for making the call.

Worth not wasting your time calling for hours.

Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

An incredibly helpful service

An incredibly helpful service! Got me connected to a CA EDD agent without major hassle (outside of EDD's agents dropping calls – which Claimyr has free protection for). If you need to file a new claim and can't do it online, pay the $ to Claimyr to get the process started. Absolutely worth it!

Consistent,frustration free, quality Service.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. Dropped a couple times but each reconnected not long after and was mission accomplished, thanks to Claimyr.

IT WORKS!! Not a scam!

I tried for weeks to get thru to EDD PFL program with no luck. I gave this a try thinking it may be a scam. OMG! It worked and They got thru within an hour and my claim is going to finally get paid!! I upgraded to the $60 call. Best $60 spent!

I completely get your concern about entering all that personal information - it's totally normal to be cautious when it comes to protecting your benefits! I went through the same worry when I first heard about the ebtEDGE app about 8 months ago. What really helped put my mind at ease was doing my own verification before downloading. I went to the official California EBT website (ebt.ca.gov) and found their section about mobile apps, which specifically mentions ebtEDGE as their official app. Then I made sure to download it only from the Google Play Store, checking that it was published by "FIS Global" - the legitimate company that handles EBT card services. The app does require all that information (card number, DOB, full SSN) because they need to absolutely verify you're the real cardholder before giving you access to your benefit information. It's actually a good security measure, even though it feels scary at first! I've been using it for months now without any issues, and it's been super helpful for checking my balance quickly before grocery trips and reviewing transaction history. One tip that made me feel more secure: once you set it up initially, you can enable fingerprint or face ID login so you won't have to keep entering all that sensitive information every time. Your family's food security is too important to risk with a fake app, but this one is definitely the real deal when downloaded from official sources!

Thank you for such a detailed and reassuring response! I really appreciate you walking through your verification process step by step - it gives me a clear roadmap to follow. Hearing that you've been using it for 8 months without any issues is incredibly reassuring. You're absolutely right that my family's food security is too important to risk, which is exactly why I was being so cautious. The fact that the official California EBT website specifically mentions ebtEDGE makes me feel much more confident about it. I'm going to follow your advice and do the same verification steps before downloading. Thanks for understanding my concerns and taking the time to help me feel more secure about this decision!

I totally understand your anxiety about this! I was in the exact same position about 3 months ago - desperately wanting a convenient way to check my balance but terrified of entering all that personal info into an app. What really helped me was taking it step by step. First, I did what others have suggested - went to the official California EBT website (ebt.ca.gov) and confirmed they list ebtEDGE as their official mobile app. Then I downloaded it only from the Apple App Store, making absolutely sure it was published by "FIS Global" and not some random developer. The reason they ask for your full card number, DOB, and complete SSN is because they need iron-clad verification that you're the actual cardholder - imagine how upset you'd be if someone could access your benefits with just partial information! It's the same level of security they use when you call to change your PIN. I've been using it for 3 months now and it's been a lifesaver. Being able to quickly check my balance before grocery shopping has saved me so much stress. Plus the transaction history feature helped me catch an error once where I was double-charged. And once you're set up, you can use fingerprint login so you don't have to keep entering all that sensitive info. Your caution is completely justified - these benefits are too important to risk. But when you download from official sources and verify everything, the app is definitely legitimate and secure!

Don't stress about it - you're definitely not alone in being confused! I went through the same thing my first year on CalFresh. The good news is everyone here is right - CalFresh benefits are completely tax-free and don't get reported anywhere on your return. Since you mentioned you're filing for the first time with benefits, here's what helped me: when the tax software asks about "government benefits," they're usually talking about unemployment, Social Security, or disability payments that DO get taxed. CalFresh/SNAP is never included in that category. The most important thing is making sure you claim all the credits you're entitled to as a single parent. With your income level that qualified you for CalFresh, you'll probably get a really good refund from the EITC and Child Tax Credit. I was shocked at how much I got back my first year! Also, if you're using paid tax software, check if you qualify for the IRS Free File instead - it'll save you money and works just as well for straightforward returns like yours.

This is such great advice! I'm also new to filing taxes with CalFresh and was worried I was missing something important. It's really reassuring to hear from someone who went through the same confusion. I'll definitely look into that IRS Free File option - every dollar saved helps when you're on benefits. Thanks for breaking it down so clearly!

Hey Sofia! Just wanted to add my experience since I was in almost the exact same situation last year - single mom, first time filing with CalFresh, totally panicking about doing something wrong! Everyone here is absolutely right - CalFresh is completely invisible to the IRS. I actually called the IRS helpline to double-check because I was so paranoid, and they confirmed it's not reportable income at all. One thing that really helped me was keeping a simple folder with all my tax documents (W-2, any 1099s, childcare receipts, etc.) separate from my CalFresh paperwork. That way when I'm doing taxes, I'm only looking at actual taxable stuff. Also, don't let the tax software scare you with those "government benefits" questions - they're fishing for things like unemployment or disability payments that ARE taxable. CalFresh will never show up on any tax form you receive. You've got this! And honestly, with the credits you'll qualify for as a single parent, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised by your refund. I know I was!

This just happened to me too! But mine was because I had reported my rent increase a few months ago and they finally processed it and gave me back benefits. Check your mail for a Notice of Action - it should explain exactly why you got the extra money. And no, it shouldn't affect your regular deposit schedule at all.

Thanks! I found the notice and you're right, it was a back payment for expenses they just processed. Glad to hear your experience was similar!

Glad you got it sorted out! For anyone else reading this thread - always check BenefitsCal AND your physical mail when you get unexpected deposits. The county is required to send written notices for any benefit changes, but sometimes the deposit hits your EBT card before the mail arrives. Also keep copies of any documents you submit (like those childcare receipts) so you can track what might be getting processed later. The system can be slow but they do eventually catch up on adjustments they owe you.

This is such helpful advice! I wish I had known about checking BenefitsCal first - would have saved me a lot of worry. I'm definitely going to keep better track of what documents I submit from now on. Thanks everyone for helping me figure this out!

Thanks for posting this update! I was actually wondering about the same thing when I saw an extra deposit on my card yesterday. It's really helpful to know it's the Food Cost Adjustment Supplement and that it's legitimate. I was hesitant to spend it without knowing for sure what it was for. Really appreciate you taking the time to call and confirm, and then sharing the info with everyone here. Now I can use that extra money for groceries without worrying about having to pay it back later!

You're so welcome! I was really nervous about spending it too until I got confirmation. It's such a relief to know it's official and we don't have to worry about overpayment issues. The worker I spoke with was actually really helpful once I finally got through - she explained that they're trying to help families deal with the higher grocery costs this year. Hope everyone who's missing theirs gets it sorted out soon!

This is so helpful! I got an extra $142 on my card yesterday and was totally confused about where it came from. I'm a single mom with two kids and every dollar matters, so I was really worried about spending it if it was a mistake. Reading through all these comments and your update gives me so much peace of mind. It's amazing that California is actually trying to help families deal with these crazy grocery prices - everything costs so much more than it did even last year. Thanks for doing the legwork and calling to confirm what this was all about!

I just went through this exact situation 3 months ago when I moved from Colorado to California! Here's my step-by-step experience that might help: **What actually worked for me:** 1. Applied online through BenefitsCal on the same day I arrived (Sunday evening) 2. Called the county office first thing Monday morning to emphasize expedited services need 3. Went to the county office Tuesday with ALL documents in hand 4. Got approved Wednesday, EBT card Thursday! **ID situation:** Your Nevada ID is completely fine - don't stress about getting a CA license immediately. I used my Colorado license for months after getting CalFresh approved. **Critical timing tip:** I notified Colorado exactly 1 day after I physically arrived in California, then immediately applied for CalFresh. This prevented any overlap while minimizing the gap period. **Phone interview hack:** When they called for my interview (from a random county number), I was ready with all my documents spread out in front of me. The whole thing took 8 minutes because I could answer everything immediately. **Residency proof:** My brother wrote a simple letter saying I was staying with him temporarily, included his phone number, and that was enough. No fancy documentation needed. The whole process was way less scary than I expected! California's benefits are definitely more generous than Colorado's were. You'll qualify for expedited services with no job lined up, so you should get benefits within 3 days of your interview. Good luck with your move!

This is such a reassuring timeline - thank you for sharing your actual day-by-day experience! It's really helpful to see that the whole process can actually work smoothly when done right. The 4-day total timeline from application to EBT card gives me hope that I can get through this transition without too much stress. I love the tip about having all documents spread out during the phone interview - that preparation makes so much sense. Your timing strategy of notifying Colorado 1 day after arrival seems like the sweet spot for avoiding both overlap and gaps. I'm feeling much more confident about this move now after reading everyone's experiences and advice. California's more generous benefits will definitely make the temporary bureaucratic hassle worth it!

I moved from New Mexico to California last year and wanted to add one more tip that really saved me - create a simple checklist on your phone with all the steps mentioned in this thread! I kept forgetting small details in the stress of moving. Also, when you do your phone interview, ask specifically about the EBT card delivery method for your county. Some counties offer same-day pickup at the office if you qualify for expedited services, while others only mail them. Knowing this upfront can save you 2-3 days of waiting. One thing I learned the hard way - if you're job hunting during your first month, keep any rejection emails or documentation of your job search. Some counties ask for proof that you're actively looking for work, especially for ongoing eligibility after your first month. The transition stress is totally normal, but California's CalFresh program really is worth it once you get through the initial setup. You've gotten amazing advice in this thread - you're going to do great!
