If I could give 10 stars I would

If I could give 10 stars I would If I could give 10 stars I would Such an amazing service so needed during the times when EDD almost never picks up Claimyr gets me on the phone with EDD every time without fail faster. A much needed service without Claimyr I would have never received the payment I needed to support me during my postpartum recovery. Thank you so much Claimyr!

Really made a difference

Really made a difference, save me time and energy from going to a local office for making the call.

Worth not wasting your time calling for hours.

Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

An incredibly helpful service

An incredibly helpful service! Got me connected to a CA EDD agent without major hassle (outside of EDD's agents dropping calls – which Claimyr has free protection for). If you need to file a new claim and can't do it online, pay the $ to Claimyr to get the process started. Absolutely worth it!

Consistent,frustration free, quality Service.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. Dropped a couple times but each reconnected not long after and was mission accomplished, thanks to Claimyr.

IT WORKS!! Not a scam!

I tried for weeks to get thru to EDD PFL program with no luck. I gave this a try thinking it may be a scam. OMG! It worked and They got thru within an hour and my claim is going to finally get paid!! I upgraded to the $60 call. Best $60 spent!

Wow, reading through this thread as someone new to CalFresh - this is exactly the kind of info I wish I had known before! I just got approved last month and have been using different apps to manage my benefits without realizing they could cause these kinds of conflicts. Thank you especially to @Mason Kaczka for that detailed breakdown of how to get through to customer service - I'm screenshotting that phone sequence! And @Nina Chan that screenshot tip is brilliant, definitely doing that going forward. It's honestly scary how easy it is to get locked out of something as essential as food benefits. Makes me wonder if there should be some kind of warning in these third-party apps about potential EBT compatibility issues? Seems like this happens way too often based on everyone's responses. Glad you got it sorted out @Sebastian Scott! Stories like this make me so grateful for communities like this where people actually help each other navigate these complicated systems.

Welcome to CalFresh @Ava Hernandez! You're absolutely right that there should be better warnings about third-party app compatibility. I've been on CalFresh for about 6 months now and learned the hard way (like many of us here) that these banking apps don't always play nice with EBT cards. One thing I wish someone had told me early on - also be careful with automatic savings features in apps like Qapital or Digit that round up purchases. They can sometimes try to pull from your EBT card which will get declined and can flag your account. Stick to the official ConnectEBT app/website for anything EBT-related. This community really is a lifesaver when the official systems fail us. The county workers mean well but they don't always know about these app conflicts since they're dealing with so many different issues. Having people who've actually been through these situations is invaluable!

This whole thread is SO helpful! I'm relatively new to using CalFresh and had no idea about these potential issues with third-party apps. I've been using Mint to track my spending across all my accounts including EBT and now I'm worried it might cause problems too. The phone tree bypass info from @Mason Kaczka is gold - I'm saving those exact steps. And @Nina Chan's screenshot tip is genius, definitely implementing that immediately. It's really frustrating that the state promotes all these "convenient" digital tools but doesn't warn people about compatibility issues. Like, they want us to go paperless and use apps, but then the apps can lock us out of our food benefits?? The irony is not lost on me. @Sebastian Scott so glad you got this resolved quickly! Having hungry kids and no access to benefits sounds absolutely terrifying. This community really came through with practical solutions when the official systems failed you. Does anyone know if there's a list somewhere of which apps are actually SAFE to use with EBT cards? Seems like something the state should provide given how many people are getting burned by this.

@Samantha Johnson great question about safe apps! From what I ve'learned lurking here and through my own trial and error, the safest approach is to ONLY use the official ConnectEBT app/website for any EBT management. Even read-only apps like Mint can sometimes cause issues if they try to verify balances too frequently. I actually called the EBT customer service line a few weeks ago to ask this exact question, and the rep told me they only recommend their official channels because third-party apps use different authentication systems that can trigger security locks. She said even harmless "budget" tracking apps can sometimes ping the EBT system in ways that look suspicious to their fraud detection. It s'super annoying that there s'no official list though - you d'think with how common this problem is, the state would publish some guidance! Until then, this community seems to be our best resource for real-world info about what works and what doesn t.'The screenshot tip from @Nina Chan has already saved me once when I had a balance discrepancy - having that proof made the customer service call way easier!

As someone who just started working nights at a call center (11PM-7AM), this thread has been incredibly helpful! I had no idea about so many of these workarounds. The grocery pickup scheduling idea is genius - I'm definitely going to try placing orders during my break and scheduling pickup for right after my shift. I've been trying to tough it out by staying awake until stores open at 6AM but I'm usually so exhausted by then that I make poor shopping decisions or forget half the things I need. The emergency stockpile suggestion makes so much sense too. It's really frustrating that the EBT system doesn't have any flexibility for those of us who work non-traditional hours, but at least there are ways to work around it. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and tips - this community is awesome for supporting each other through these challenges!

Welcome to the night shift life! It really is tough navigating all these systems when they're designed for 9-5 workers. I've been working nights for about a year now and this whole thread has given me some new ideas too. The delivery option that @Yara Nassar mentioned is something I hadn't thought of - paying a small delivery fee might actually be worth it to avoid the whole "zombie shopping at 6AM" experience! I'm curious, have you figured out yet which day of the month your benefits typically load? That was something that took me a while to nail down when I first started getting CalFresh, and knowing the exact date helps so much with planning your pickup orders and emergency stockpile timing.

Hey @Eve Freeman! I totally get the exhausted shopping issue - I made so many impulse buys and forgot essentials when I was trying to shop right after my shift ended. One thing that's really helped me is using the notes app on my phone to keep a running grocery list throughout the week, organized by store sections (produce, dairy, etc.) so even when I'm brain-dead I can just follow it methodically. Also, if you haven't already, definitely sign up for your store's app - a lot of them let you create shopping lists and even show you the aisle numbers for items, which makes those zombie shopping trips way more efficient. The night shift life is rough but we've got to look out for each other!

I work 12AM-8AM at a hospital and I've been dealing with this same frustration for months! One thing that's really helped me is using grocery delivery services on my days off - I'll place the order around 11PM when I'm naturally awake, and schedule delivery for late morning when I wake up. It costs a few dollars in delivery fees but honestly it's worth it to avoid the whole "wait until 6AM then shop while exhausted" cycle. I've also started keeping a list in my phone of quick meal ideas that use shelf-stable ingredients, so when I do have to do that zombie shopping at 6AM I'm not wandering around trying to remember what I actually need to buy. It's so frustrating that the system doesn't account for people who work overnight - like we don't need food too! But at least we can share strategies to work around it.

The grocery delivery on days off is such a smart approach! I never thought about timing it for when I naturally wake up later in the day. That actually sounds way more sustainable than trying to force myself into a 6AM shopping routine when I'm completely drained. Do you have any specific delivery services you'd recommend that work well with EBT? And I love the idea of keeping a quick meal list - I'm definitely going to start one because you're so right about wandering around confused when you're that tired. It really is frustrating that these systems assume everyone works traditional hours, but I'm grateful for communities like this where we can share what actually works in real life!

I'm just starting my first night shift job next week (11PM-7AM) and getting CalFresh for the first time, so this whole thread has been incredibly educational! The delivery timing strategy you mentioned makes so much sense - work with your natural schedule instead of fighting it. I'm definitely going to start building that emergency stockpile right away and figure out the grocery pickup/delivery options in my area before I even start work. It's really eye-opening how many logistical challenges there are with these systems when you don't work typical hours. Thanks to everyone sharing their real-world solutions - this is exactly the kind of practical advice I needed to see!

I'm glad you were able to figure out what caused the increase! Just wanted to add that you can also check your EBT card balance and transaction history online or through the ebtEDGE mobile app if you haven't already. It's really helpful for tracking your benefits and understanding when they're deposited each month. Also, if you ever have questions about your benefit calculation in the future, you can always call your county's CalFresh office - they're required to explain how they calculated your amount.

Thanks for mentioning the ebtEDGE app! I didn't know about that - I've been calling the number on the back of my card to check my balance. That sounds way more convenient. And yeah, I should probably save the county office number in my phone for future questions. It's good to know they have to explain the calculations if I ask.

Just want to echo what others have said - the emergency allotments ended back in 2023, but the good news is that your increase to $516 is actually your new permanent monthly amount! The combination of the October 2024 cost-of-living adjustment (which was pretty significant this year) plus your higher rent costs from your SAR7 both worked in your favor. It's confusing when these changes happen without much explanation, but at least now you know this is your regular benefit going forward. Make sure to keep reporting any changes in income or expenses on your SAR7s since those can affect your monthly amount too.

This thread has been absolutely incredible to follow! As someone who manages benefits for a local nonprofit, I see families face this exact situation regularly. One additional resource I always share is that many counties have mobile CalFresh units or satellite offices that operate on different days of the week - these often have shorter wait times than the main county office. Alameda County specifically has a mobile unit that visits different communities, and they can usually issue replacement cards too. You can call the main office to ask about mobile unit schedules if you need a replacement in the future. Also, for anyone with young children, don't forget that Head Start programs, school districts, and childcare centers often maintain emergency food supplies or can connect you with immediate resources while you're waiting for card replacement. The amount of practical knowledge shared in this thread is truly amazing - it's like having a whole support network in your pocket! So glad everything worked out for you, Mei!

This is such valuable information about mobile CalFresh units! I had no idea those existed. The shorter wait times alone would make it worth seeking out, and knowing that Head Start programs and schools might have emergency resources is really reassuring as a parent. It's incredible how this thread has evolved into basically the most comprehensive CalFresh emergency guide I've ever seen. Between everyone's personal experiences, professional knowledge, and community resources, any family facing a lost EBT card situation now has a complete roadmap for getting help quickly. Thank you for sharing about the mobile units and school-based resources - those are definitely options I'll keep in mind!

This has been such an amazing thread to read! As someone who just moved to California and is still learning about all the CalFresh resources available, I'm blown away by how much practical information everyone has shared here. From the immediate solution of going to your home county office, to the ebtEDGE app, emergency food assistance options, mobile units, and even 24/7 resources like 211 - this is like having a complete survival guide for EBT emergencies! I'm definitely saving this entire conversation and sharing it with other families I know who receive benefits. The way this community came together to help Mei and then built this incredible knowledge base for future situations is exactly what community support should look like. Thank you everyone for taking the time to share your experiences and expertise!

Hey Dylan! Welcome to CalFresh and this awesome community! I just got my benefits about 4 months ago and literally had the exact same question - I was so confused why I couldn't just move the money to my regular account! Everyone has already given you perfect advice that it's food-only (no cash withdrawals or transfers), but I wanted to share something that made the transition easier for me. I started thinking of my EBT card as a "food gift card" rather than a debit card, which helped me adjust my expectations and actually made grocery shopping feel less stressful. One tip that's been super helpful: if you have a smartphone, add your local grocery store apps and check their weekly ads before shopping. Many stores highlight EBT-eligible sale items, and you can plan your meals around what's on sale to stretch your benefits further. Also, don't sleep on store brands - they're usually way cheaper and just as good! This community has been such a lifeline for me as a newcomer. Everyone here truly understands what it's like to navigate this system for the first time. Don't hesitate to come back with more questions - we're all rooting for you! Good luck on your first shopping adventure!

Hey Dylan! Welcome to CalFresh and this community! I'm also pretty new to the program (got my card about 7 months ago) and had the exact same confusion when I first started. Everyone here has given you excellent advice - you definitely can't withdraw cash or transfer funds from your CalFresh EBT card since it's strictly for eligible food purchases only. One thing that really helped me when I was starting out was downloading the FreshEBT app in addition to the ebtEDGE app others mentioned. It's super user-friendly for checking your balance and transaction history, plus it has a really helpful feature that shows you nearby stores that accept EBT. Also, don't stress too much about making mistakes while you're learning! I accidentally tried to buy shampoo with my EBT card on my second shopping trip (thought it might count as a "necessity" lol) and the cashier was totally understanding about removing it from my order. Most store employees deal with EBT transactions all the time and are really patient with newcomers. This community has been such an amazing resource for navigating everything - from finding the best deals to understanding all the program rules. Everyone here really gets what it's like to be new to government assistance programs. Welcome, and don't hesitate to ask more questions as they come up!
