Check ur mail!! i just got home and had a letter from sacto county saying some people would have there benefits delayed this month due to "Processing capacity issues" whatever that means. Of course they sent the letter AFTER the delays started 🙄
OMG typical! I'll check my mail when I get home. Why not send a text or email alert instead of mail that arrives after the problem starts? At least now we know it's definitely a system thing. Thanks for the update!
UPDATE: Sacramento County just issued an official statement. The system delay is now resolved and all pending June benefits should be issued by midnight tonight. If you don't receive your benefits by tomorrow morning, then you should contact your caseworker as it may indicate a separate issue with your specific case. They apologized for the inconvenience and communication delay.
Thank you for the update! Just checked my account and the benefits are there now! Such a relief. Going grocery shopping first thing tomorrow.
I don't understand why they're replacing benefits on the cash side. That doesn't seem right to me. CalFresh and CalWORKs are totally different programs with different funding sources. Are you sure you weren't already getting cash benefits and just didn't realize it? You might want to double-check your eligibility letter to make sure you understand what benefits you're approved for. Also, not filing a police report was definitely a mistake. They usually require that for any theft claims. You got lucky they replaced it at all without one.
This is actually standard procedure in California. When CalFresh benefits are stolen and need to be replaced, counties often issue the replacement as a cash benefit because of limitations in the EBT system for backdating food benefits. It's an administrative workaround that most counties use, not an indication that OP is on CalWORKs. You're right that they technically should require a police report, but many counties have been waiving that requirement due to the dramatic increase in EBT theft over the past couple years.
Hey, just wanted to follow up - were you able to use the cash benefits okay? Did anyone give you trouble at the store? I'm curious because my mom just had the same thing happen and she's worried stores won't accept it.
make sure u activate it as soon as u get it!!! and pick a pin u wont forget my friend lost her pin and had to go thru whole process again
just got my sons card today!!!! so they really are still sending them. check ur mail careful cuz like someone said it looks like junk mail totally
Update on my situation - I finally got through to FTB about my MCTC after using that Claimyr service I mentioned. Turns out they had sent my card to my old address even though I updated it with CalFresh months before. The rep said they can cancel that card and issue a new one to my current address, but it'll take 3-4 weeks. Just a heads up for anyone else dealing with this - make sure they have your current mailing address!
Thanks for the update! I'm definitely going to call tomorrow. Good to know they can reissue it if it went to my old place.
I want to clarify something important: If you're still actively receiving CalFresh benefits, make sure you're clear which office you need to contact. For regular CalFresh questions, contact your county office. For Middle Class Tax Refund questions, contact the Franchise Tax Board at 800-542-9332. These are completely separate programs with different contact points. Also, updating your address with one agency doesn't automatically update it with others - you need to notify each program separately about address changes.
That makes sense but it's frustrating they don't communicate with each other. I'll make sure to call FTB specifically about the MCTC. Appreciate all the help everyone!

just a heads up, when they calculate your income they use GROSS not net! I got confused because my net income after taxes is way less than what they counted. And they average your last 30 days of income unless you have a sudden change like getting fired or hours cut - then they can use your new expected income instead. Make sure to explain your situation clearly on the application.

•Thanks for explaining that! My hours just got cut last week so I'll definitely mention that and bring documentation.

One more thing that might help: when you apply, you can request expedited services if you meet certain criteria (very low income/resources or high housing costs compared to income). If eligible for expedited services, they must process your application within 3 calendar days instead of the standard 30. Might be worth asking about if your situation is urgent.

•That's super helpful information! My rent is more than half my income right now, so I'll definitely ask about expedited services. Thank you!
