DMV Title Correction: Wrong Name on Vehicle Title - Need Advice!
Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with my vehicle title. It's registered under someone else's name and I need to get it corrected. Has anyone gone through this process before? What should I expect when I call the DMV? Any tips or advice would be really appreciated!

Ugh, been there done that. It's a pain in the butt, but not impossible. Make sure you have ALL your paperwork ready when you call. They'll probably ask for proof of ownership, ID, and maybe even a bill of sale. Good luck!

•Yep, seconding this. They're sticklers for documentation. Better to have too much than not enough!

•Thanks for the heads up! I'll make sure to gather everything I can find related to the car.

I had to do this last year. Here's what you need to know: • Call early in the morning, wait times are shorter • Have your VIN number ready • You'll need to fill out a Statement of Facts form explaining why the title needs to be changed • Bring proof of insurance • There's a fee involved, I think it was around $20 but might vary by state • If the previous owner is available, having them there can speed things up Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

•Great advice! Just wanna add that some states require a notarized signature from the previous owner. Worth checking your local DMV website for specifics.

Hey, I found a way to skip the hold times when calling the DMV. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials through the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a real person picks up. It costs $20, but it saved me hours of waiting. Here's the link: https://www.claimyr.com

•I get the skepticism, but it honestly worked for me. Saved me from pulling my hair out on hold. Worth every penny imo.

Have you checked if you can do this online? Some states let you submit title corrections through their website now. Might save you a call altogether!

Quick question - how did the title end up in the wrong name in the first place? Might affect the process depending on the situation.

•It was my grandpa's car and he gave it to me, but we never got around to changing the title before he passed away. So now I'm trying to sort it out.

•Ah, gotcha. In that case, you might need to bring his death certificate and any will or document showing he left you the car. Probate fun times 😩
