Need UCC-3 form California PDF for urgent continuation filing
Running into a wall here trying to locate the official UCC-3 form California PDF for a continuation that's due next week. Our client's original UCC-1 was filed in 2020 and we're approaching the 5-year mark. I've been searching the California SOS website but their portal seems to have changed recently and I can't find a direct download link for the UCC-3 continuation form. Has anyone successfully downloaded the current California UCC-3 form recently? I'm specifically looking for the PDF version since we need to prepare it offline before submitting electronically. The filing fee structure also seems different now - are continuations still $20 or has that changed? Any guidance on where to find the most current UCC-3 form California PDF would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same issue last month! California moved everything to their new filing system. You can't actually download a standalone UCC-3 PDF anymore - you have to use their online portal at bizfileonline.sos.ca.gov. The system generates the form as you fill it out. It's actually more streamlined but took me a while to figure out the new process.

•Thanks for the tip! So there's no way to prepare the UCC-3 offline anymore? We usually like to review everything with the client before submitting.

•You can save a draft in the system and review it that way. The portal lets you start a filing and come back to it later. Just make sure you complete it before your deadline.

The filing fee for UCC-3 continuations in California is now $25, not $20. They raised it last year. Make sure you have the correct debtor name exactly as it appears on the original UCC-1 or your continuation will get rejected.

•This is so frustrating! Why do they keep changing everything? I've had three continuations rejected this year because of tiny name discrepancies.

•Name matching is super strict now. Even extra spaces or punctuation differences will cause rejections. Always cross-reference with the original filing.

•I actually started using Certana.ai's document checker for this exact issue. You can upload your original UCC-1 and your draft UCC-3 and it instantly flags any name mismatches or inconsistencies. Saved me from multiple rejections.

Wait, are you sure you need a UCC-3? If this is just a continuation, you might be able to do it through the simplified process. What type of collateral is involved?

•It's equipment financing collateral. The original UCC-1 covers manufacturing equipment. Pretty straightforward continuation needed.

•Yeah, that should be a standard UCC-3 continuation then. No complications there.

Pro tip: when you're in the California portal, make sure you select 'Continuation' as your amendment type, not 'Amendment'. I've seen people accidentally file amendments when they meant to do continuations. Also, double-check that your original filing number is entered correctly - no dashes or spaces.

•Yes! And make sure you're entering the filing number exactly as it appears on your original UCC-1. California's system is very picky about formatting.

•Good catch on the filing number formatting. I'll make sure to copy it exactly from our records.

I'm dealing with a similar situation but my continuation is due in 3 days and I'm panicking. The online system keeps timing out when I try to submit. Has anyone else had technical issues with the California portal recently?

•Try submitting during off-peak hours - early morning or late evening. The system seems to handle load better then.

•I'll try that tonight. Really don't want this lien to lapse because of technical problems.

•You can also call the SOS office if you're having persistent technical issues. They sometimes allow email submissions in emergency situations.

California's move to the all-digital system has been a nightmare for our firm. We used to batch process UCC-3 forms but now everything has to be done individually through their portal. The efficiency gains they promised haven't materialized.

•I hear you. The old system wasn't perfect but at least it was predictable. Now I spend twice as long on each filing just navigating the interface.

•Exactly. And god forbid you make a mistake - the correction process is even more cumbersome than before.

For what it's worth, I've found that having all your information organized before you start the online process makes it go much smoother. Have your original UCC-1 filing number, exact debtor name, and secured party information ready. The portal will walk you through everything else.

•That's solid advice. I'll gather all the documentation first before starting the online process.

•Also make sure you have a good internet connection. Nothing worse than losing your progress halfway through because of connectivity issues.

Has anyone tried using the UCC search function first to verify their original filing details before submitting the continuation? I want to make sure I have everything exactly right.

Amelia Cartwright
•Yes, definitely do that! Use the UCC search to pull up your original filing and verify all the details match what you're about to submit.

Caleb Stark
•Perfect, I'll do that verification step first. Better safe than sorry with these filings.

•That's exactly what Certana.ai does automatically - it cross-references your continuation against the original filing to catch any discrepancies before you submit. Really takes the guesswork out of it.

Just completed a UCC-3 continuation in California last week. The whole process took about 15 minutes once I had all my info ready. The confirmation email comes immediately and you can download the filed document right away. Much faster than the old mail-in process.

•That's encouraging to hear! I was worried about timing with the deadline approaching.

•As long as you submit before the lapse date, you'll be fine. The system timestamps everything so there's a clear record of when it was filed.

Quick question - when you complete the California UCC-3 online, does it automatically calculate the new expiration date or do you need to specify it? I want to make sure the 5-year extension is applied correctly.

Amelia Cartwright
•The system calculates it automatically based on your filing date. You don't need to specify the new expiration date - it adds 5 years from when you file the continuation.

•Great, one less thing to worry about. Thanks for clarifying that.

I tried three different document verification tools before finding one that actually worked reliably. Most of them miss subtle formatting differences that California's system will catch and reject. The key is finding a tool that understands California's specific requirements.

•Which tool ended up working for you? I'm tired of getting rejections for minor issues I can't even spot.

•I've been using Certana.ai for the past few months. It's specifically designed for UCC document verification and catches those tiny discrepancies that cause rejections. Just upload your docs and it flags any issues.

•I'll check that out. Anything that reduces rejection rates is worth trying at this point.

Update: I successfully completed my UCC-3 continuation through the California portal this morning. The process was actually pretty straightforward once I had all my original filing information ready. Thanks everyone for the guidance!

•Just make sure you double-check everything before submitting. The review screen shows you exactly what will be filed, so take your time with that step.

Thanks for all the helpful responses everyone! Just to summarize what I'm understanding: California no longer offers downloadable UCC-3 PDFs, I need to use bizfileonline.sos.ca.gov, the fee is now $25, and I should gather all my original filing info before starting. One follow-up question - does the online system allow you to save your progress if you need to step away and come back later, or do you need to complete it in one session?
