FAFSA submit button glitch after maintenance - loops endlessly despite email confirmation

Has anyone else been stuck in a weird loop with the FAFSA 'Sign and Complete' section? Every time I click 'submit', it processes for like one second, then the submit button just reappears. I can't complete the final submission! What's really confusing is that I'm getting emails saying my FAFSA was successfully submitted, but when I check my studentaid.gov account, it shows as incomplete. I'm freaking out because my school's priority deadline is coming up fast. This started happening right after their system maintenance last weekend. I've tried three different browsers and even my phone. Same issue everywhere. Is the system just broken for everyone or is it just me?

Yup, same problem here since Tuesday. Submit button just loops back without completing. Got THREE confirmation emails so far but nothing shows as submitted in my account. Called FSA four times but got disconnected each time after waiting 45+ minutes. Their system is completely messed up after that maintenance update.

Omg so it's not just me! Have you found ANY way to get through to someone? I'm seriously worried about missing my deadline now.

This is a known issue affecting around 10% of applicants right now. The FAFSA system is recording your submission (that's why you get the email), but there's a display glitch in the portal. The good news is your application IS being processed despite what the portal shows. To verify your actual status: 1. Log out completely 2. Clear browser cache 3. Wait 24 hours 4. Log back in and check the "FAFSA Status" section specifically, not just the dashboard 5. If still showing as incomplete, contact your school's financial aid office - they can often see the submission in their system even when the portal glitches I work in financial aid and we've been seeing this issue since the maintenance window.

Thank you SO MUCH for explaining this! I'll try your steps and then contact my school tomorrow if it's still showing incomplete. Such a relief to know it might actually be submitted despite what I'm seeing.

I had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM!!! This stupid system is always broken! I spent HOURS trying to fix this and finally got someone at FSA to confirm my application was actually received even though the website kept showing 'incomplete'. The whole online system is garbage and they expect us to trust our financial futures to it?? 😡😡😡

How did you finally get through to FSA? I've been trying all day with no luck!

I had this issue too but found a weird workaround - try switching to "parent view" if you included parent info, then back to student view, then try submitting again. Worked for me after trying literally everything else.

I'll definitely try that! Thanks for the suggestion. Willing to try anything at this point.

If you're trying to reach the FSA helpline about this submission issue, I'd recommend checking out Claimyr (claimyr.com). It helped me get through to an agent in about 15 minutes after I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a service that holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me tons of frustration with this exact same submission glitch! You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ

Wait really? I've been on hold for HOURS with no luck. I'll check this out right now, thanks!

does this actually work? seems sketchy to not just wait on hold yourself???

@casual_commenter It definitely works - I was skeptical too! But after being disconnected three times while on hold, I was desperate. They basically use an automated system that waits in the queue for you. When they reach an agent, you get a call to connect with them. Saved me like 2 hours of hold music yesterday.

Quick update for everyone experiencing this issue: FSA just released an official statement acknowledging the submission confirmation bug. They've confirmed that applications ARE being processed correctly despite the visual glitch in your account. Your SAI calculation is still happening behind the scenes. They expect to have the display issue fixed by next Tuesday, but recommend that all students contact their schools directly to confirm receipt if they're concerned about deadlines. Most schools can see your submission in their systems even when your personal portal doesn't show it properly.

Thank you for the update! I just spoke with my school's financial aid office and they confirmed they received my application even though studentaid.gov still shows it as incomplete. What a relief!

OF COURSE they wait until thousands of students panic before acknowledging the problem! Typical government incompetence. Thanks for sharing the update though.

wait so do we need to keep hitting submit or just leave it alone now? im confused about what to do

If you've submitted once and received a confirmation email, DO NOT keep submitting. Your application has been recorded in the system. Multiple submissions can actually cause processing delays or confusion in the system. Just wait for the display issue to be fixed or contact your school to confirm they received your submission.

UPDATE: Problem solved! For anyone else dealing with this issue: 1. My school confirmed they received my FAFSA despite the website glitch 2. I used Claimyr to finally speak with an FSA agent who confirmed my submission was complete 3. The agent said they're working on fixing the display bug but it might take another week So if you've submitted and got a confirmation email, you're probably fine even if the website looks broken. Just double-check with your school's financial aid office to be 100% sure. Thanks everyone for your help!
