FAFSA disappeared after 'missing taxpayer signature' email - can't access form anymore
I'm freaking out right now. My son and I finally managed to complete the FAFSA yesterday after weeks of website glitches. We got the first email with his SAI score this morning (yay!), but then about 3 hours later received another email saying 'taxpayer's signature is missing' on the form. When I went back to fix it, the ENTIRE form has completely vanished from our account! There's no way to access it, edit it, or even see what we submitted. It's just GONE. The dashboard shows nothing pending or completed. Has this happened to anyone? How do we fix the signature issue if we can't even access the form anymore?

Same thing happened to me last week. The system is so buggy this year with the new FAFSA rollout. Here's what worked for me: don't try to access it through the email link. Log out completely, clear your browser cache/cookies, then log back in fresh. For some reason, the form reappeared for me on the dashboard after doing this. Then I could add the missing signature.

•Thanks, I'll try that right now. Did it take a while for it to reappear after you cleared everything? I'm worried because my son's college priority deadline is next week.

•Did you manage to get it back? I'm trying the cache clearing thing now but still not showing up.

This is a known issue with the 2025-2026 FAFSA processing system. The signature verification emails sometimes trigger a temporary hold that makes the form appear to disappear from your dashboard. In most cases, the form will reappear within 24-48 hours automatically without any action needed from you. If it doesn't reappear after 48 hours, you'll need to contact Federal Student Aid directly to have them manually release the hold on your application.

•Thank you for this information! Is there any way to check if our SAI score (which we did receive) is still valid during this hold period? I'm worried about my son's priority deadline for financial aid.

I had the EXACT same issue and wasted hours trying to fix it myself. The form eventually showed back up after about 36 hours, but I was panicking because of deadlines. If you need to reach someone at FSA directly to expedite things, I highly recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was getting nowhere with regular phone calls (kept disconnecting), but Claimyr got me through to an actual agent in about 15 minutes who fixed the hold on my account. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ

THE FAFSA IS A DISASTER THIS YEAR!!! I've had FOUR different "signature missing" emails for different people on the same application. Each time I fix it, another one pops up. They completely redesigned the system and CLEARLY DIDN'T TEST IT AT ALL. My daughter might miss out on thousands in aid because of their incompetence. I've spent HOURS on the phone with these people.

•I'm sorry you're going through that! Did you ever have the form completely disappear like mine did? I'm still waiting for it to show back up.

One thing I forgot to mention - check if you're looking at the correct aid year. The system sometimes defaults to showing the wrong year on the dashboard. Make sure you've selected 2025-2026 from the dropdown. That's another common reason people panic when they can't see their form.

•Good point! I double-checked and am definitely on the 2025-2026 year. Still nothing showing up yet. Going to wait the 48 hours as someone suggested before panicking more.

To address your question about the SAI score - yes, once you've received an SAI score, it's recorded in the FSA system even if the form temporarily disappears from your dashboard. The college financial aid offices can still see and access this information during the signature correction process. However, the application isn't considered fully complete until all signatures are verified, so you will need to resolve this once the form reappears.

•That's such a relief to hear! At least his SAI score is in the system and visible to schools. I'll wait for the form to reappear and fix the signature issue ASAP. Thank you!

Update: My form finally reappeared after exactly 3 days. No explanation, no notification, it just showed up again with a yellow alert about the missing signature. The whole system is completely unpredictable.

•Thank you for sharing! That gives me hope. I'm on day 2 of waiting.

UPDATE: The form reappeared this morning (about 40 hours after disappearing). There was a section at the bottom where my husband needed to re-sign with his FSA ID. After completing that step, we immediately got a confirmation email saying the FAFSA is now complete. What a stressful experience! Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance.

•Great to hear! Glad it worked out without having to call anyone. This year's FAFSA is definitely testing everyone's patience.
