If I could give 10 stars I would

If I could give 10 stars I would If I could give 10 stars I would Such an amazing service so needed during the times when EDD almost never picks up Claimyr gets me on the phone with EDD every time without fail faster. A much needed service without Claimyr I would have never received the payment I needed to support me during my postpartum recovery. Thank you so much Claimyr!

Really made a difference

Really made a difference, save me time and energy from going to a local office for making the call.

Worth not wasting your time calling for hours.

Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

An incredibly helpful service

An incredibly helpful service! Got me connected to a CA EDD agent without major hassle (outside of EDD's agents dropping calls – which Claimyr has free protection for). If you need to file a new claim and can't do it online, pay the $ to Claimyr to get the process started. Absolutely worth it!

Consistent,frustration free, quality Service.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. Dropped a couple times but each reconnected not long after and was mission accomplished, thanks to Claimyr.

IT WORKS!! Not a scam!

I tried for weeks to get thru to EDD PFL program with no luck. I gave this a try thinking it may be a scam. OMG! It worked and They got thru within an hour and my claim is going to finally get paid!! I upgraded to the $60 call. Best $60 spent!

Make sure both you and your daughter use different email addresses and different phone numbers when creating FSA IDs. The system gets extremely confused if there's any overlap. Also, have all your tax documents ready before starting - the process goes much smoother when you can directly transfer tax information using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool rather than entering everything manually.

Good tip! I'll use my personal email and have her use her school email. And I'll definitely gather all our tax documents beforehand.

One more thing to consider: make sure both students complete their own FAFSA applications separately. Even though your SAI is calculated at the parent level, each student needs their own application. Sometimes I see families missing out on aid because they incorrectly think one FAFSA covers all their children. Also, the SAI can sometimes change slightly due to student-specific factors, so don't assume both will have identical aid packages.

Yes, we did complete separate FAFSA applications for each child. That's interesting about the SAI potentially varying between them though - I assumed it would be identical since it's based on our household information. I'll keep a close eye on both aid packages when they come in.

Contact your congressperson!!!!! Seriously, this change to FAFSA is DESTROYING middle class families with multiple kids in college. There's a group of parents pushing for legislation to fix this. The more complaints they get the better chance we have of getting this fixed!!

lol good luck with that the govt doesnt care about us

That's actually not a bad idea. I hadn't thought about contacting our representative, but this change really does impact a lot of families. Do you know if there's a specific advocacy group organizing around this issue?

THIS IS WHY THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS A JOKE!!! SAI means STUDENT AID INDEX and is supposed to show what you can pay but then they ignore it completely!! They know EXACTLY what you can afford (-1500 means you can pay NOTHING) and then leave a $20k gap anyway?? I've been through this with 3 kids now and it's gotten worse each time. The financial aid system is completely broken. Negative SAI should mean FULL COVERAGE of costs, period.

That's exactly what I thought too! Why even calculate an SAI if they're going to ignore what it says about what we can afford? It feels intentionally misleading.

After reading through all the comments, I'd suggest taking these specific steps: 1. Have your son accept the current aid package to hold his spot but don't pay any deposits yet 2. File a Special Circumstances form (different from regular appeal) documenting your fixed income situation 3. Contact your state's Vocational Rehabilitation Services about funding for ASL interpreter training 4. Look for program-specific scholarships from organizations like RID and NAD (National Association of the Deaf) 5. Consider having your son take the minimum federal loans ($5,500) to reduce the gap Despite the frustrating system, there are ways to piece together funding, especially for specialized programs like ASL interpretation that address critical workforce shortages.

This is really helpful, thank you. I've started researching the vocational rehabilitation option and we have an appointment next week. I'll also look into the Special Circumstances form. He's willing to take the student loans, but even with that, we'd still need to find another $15k somehow.

Just to clarify an important point - once your FAFSA is processed, what you'll see is your SAI (Student Aid Index), which replaced the old EFC. This is just a number that schools use to determine your aid eligibility. A lower SAI means you're eligible for more need-based aid. Don't panic if your SAI seems high - each school has different formulas for awarding aid, and you might still qualify for merit scholarships, work-study, and federal loans regardless of your SAI. The schools will put together financial aid packages based on their own budgets and your information.

Thank you for explaining this! I was so confused about what happens after processing. Once I get my SAI, how long does it typically take for schools to send their aid packages?

0 coins

It varies by school, but typically anywhere from 2-6 weeks after they receive your FAFSA information. Some schools are faster than others. You can always contact your schools' financial aid offices directly to check on the status once your FAFSA shows as processed.

Update us when your status changes! I'm curious how long it ends up taking with the new FAFSA system. My sister is applying next month, so I'm trying to gather real experiences to set her expectations.

Just checked this morning and it FINALLY changed to "Form Processed"! So it took exactly 7 days from submission to processing. Now waiting to see my SAI and hear from schools. Tell your sister to be patient - it definitely takes longer than they say on the website!

Update: I just checked the studentaid.gov help center, and they added a new guide specifically for this issue. If you're on the signature page but need to go back: 1. Click on the three-line menu icon in the top corner 2. Select "Return to FAFSA form" 3. This will take you back to the section-by-section view 4. Complete any missing sections 5. Then return to the signature process Hope this helps! The redesigned system is definitely creating confusion for many applicants this year.

Thank you for the update! I'll try these exact steps tonight. Really appreciate everyone's help with this frustrating situation!
