Will reporting my part-time hours late affect ESD claim processing time?
Finally found a part-time job after 6 weeks of unemployment (retail, only 15-20 hrs/week). I just started reporting these hours to ESD with my weekly claim yesterday, but I'm worried about delays. The system asked for more details about my employment since I hadn't reported any work before. Will adding part-time work make my claim take longer to process now? Been getting benefits smoothly until this point and really can't afford a gap in payments while they review my updated situation. Anyone experienced this recently?

I started reporting PT hours about 2 months ago and my payments kept coming normally. Just make sure you're accurate with the hours and earnings you report each week. The system might ask more questions the first time but after that it's pretty routine.

•That's a relief! Did you have to wait at all for that first payment after reporting work hours? The system said something about 'pending' after I submitted.

Your claim shouldn't take any longer than normal to process. ESD is used to people finding part-time work while on unemployment - that's actually how the system is designed to work! Just be sure you're accurately reporting: 1. Your gross earnings (before taxes) for each week 2. The exact hours worked during your claim week 3. Whether you're still looking for full-time work As long as you earn less than your weekly benefit amount, you'll still receive partial benefits. The first $50 you earn won't affect your payment, then they deduct 75% of anything above that.

•Thanks for this detailed info! I'm definitely earning less than my benefit amount. I reported $320 for 18 hours last week. My weekly benefit is $524. Will I still need to do the three job search activities even with this part-time job?

•Oh no, that's exactly what I'm worried about! Did you have to call them to speed things up or did it just resolve on its own?

In my experience as someone who's been through this process multiple times, reporting part-time work usually causes a 1-2 week delay the FIRST time you report hours, but then returns to normal processing. ESD needs to verify your new employment information. Make sure you've provided your employer's full legal name, EIN/UBI number if you have it, and contact information. This helps speed up their verification process. And yes, you still need to complete your three job search activities each week even with part-time work, unless you've been specifically approved for standby status.

•THIS! I had the exact same experience. First payment after reporting PT hours took 9 days instead of the usual 2, but everything after that was normal. They're just doing their due diligence to verify your new employer.

I had this EXACT problem in February and couldn't get anyone on the phone for weeks!! My claim got stuck in this weird pending status and I kept getting generic messages saying they needed additional information. Super frustrating. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to reach an actual ESD agent and they resolved it in 5 minutes. They have this video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Saved me weeks of stress after trying to call ESD directly like 50 times.

•Never heard of this service before. Did it actually get you through to ESD? I've been calling their main number and just getting the 'high call volume' message every time.

•Yeah it worked for me! Got through to an agent in about 25 minutes after trying for days on my own. The agent told me they just needed to verify my new employer which is standard procedure, but something had flagged in their system. Worth it to not lose a month of benefits while waiting.

ESD IS THE WORST!!!!! They put my claim on hold for SIX WEEKS when I reported 12 hours of part-time work!!! Said they needed to "verify my employment" but NEVER CONTACTED MY EMPLOYER!!! I had to call them 37 TIMES before getting through!!! They literally told me "oops, looks like this got overlooked" and fixed it in 2 minutes once I finally reached someone!!! THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!!

•This isn't the typical experience. Most claims with part-time work report are processed within the normal timeframe. There might have been other factors with your specific claim that caused that unusual delay.

•Maybe not "typical" but happens WAY more than they admit! My neighbor had the EXACT same issue last month! They're understaffed and overwhelmed and regular people suffer!!!

UPDATE: My payment just processed normally this morning! Looks like adding the part-time work didn't cause any delays for me. They did reduce my benefit amount based on what I earned, but that's expected. Thanks everyone for the advice and sharing your experiences!

my sister had issues when she started working part time but it was because she made a mistake on her hours... she accidentally put 71 hours instead of 17 hours (typo) and that triggered some kind of review. just double check everything before you submit and you should be fine

•Omg that's a good point, I'll definitely double-check everything. Crazy how one typo can cause so much trouble!
