When will I get my unemployment money from Washington ESD?
Filed my initial unemployment claim with Washington ESD two weeks ago and still haven't received any payments. My weekly claims show as processed but no money has hit my account yet. The website just says 'claim under review' but doesn't give any timeline. I'm starting to panic because rent is due next week. Does anyone know how long it typically takes to get your first unemployment payment in Washington? I've been checking my account daily but nothing changes.

It usually takes 2-3 weeks for the first payment after you file your initial claim. But if your claim is under review, that could mean adjudication which adds more time.

•What's adjudication? Nobody told me about that when I filed.

•Adjudication is when Washington ESD needs to verify information on your claim. Could be anything from job separation details to identity verification.

Same boat here! Filed 3 weeks ago and still waiting. Called Washington ESD like 50 times but can never get through. The phone system is absolutely terrible.

•I had this exact problem last month. Spent hours trying to call Washington ESD until I found Claimyr (claimyr.com). They actually got me through to an agent in like 15 minutes. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Game changer for getting through to ESD!

•Never heard of that but I'm desperate at this point. Did they charge you anything?

•Yeah there's a fee but honestly worth it when you're stuck like this. Much cheaper than missing rent payments!

Check your SecureAccess Washington account to see if there are any pending issues that need attention. Sometimes there are action items you need to complete before payments can be processed.

•I checked and it doesn't show any pending issues. Just says 'claim under review' with no other details.

•That's frustrating. You might need to call to get specifics about what's holding up your claim.

washington esd is so slow right now!! my friend waited 6 weeks for her first payment and they never even told her why it was delayed

•6 WEEKS?! I can't wait that long, I'll be evicted by then.

•Don't panic yet. Every case is different. Some people get paid within days, others take longer depending on their situation.

If your claim shows 'under review' it's likely in adjudication. Common reasons include: voluntary quit vs termination disputes, availability issues, or identity verification. The timeline varies but can be 3-6 weeks depending on complexity.

•Is there any way to speed this up? I was laid off, not fired, so I don't understand what they need to review.

•Even layoffs sometimes require verification, especially if your employer contests the claim. You really need to speak with an adjudicator to get specifics.

•This is where something like Claimyr becomes useful. Getting through to the right department at Washington ESD is nearly impossible otherwise.

Make sure you're continuing to file your weekly claims even if you haven't been paid yet. If you stop filing, you could lose weeks of benefits.

•Yes I've been filing every week religiously. They all show as processed but still no payments.

•Good, that means once your claim is approved you should get backpay for all those weeks.

Update: I tried that Claimyr thing and actually got through to Washington ESD! Turns out my employer disputed my claim and that's why it was stuck. The agent was able to expedite the review process.

•Really?? How long did it take to get through with Claimyr?
0 coins
GalaxyGlider
•About 20 minutes total. Way better than the hours I wasted calling directly.

•Did they tell you how long the review will take now?

GalaxyGlider
•Agent said should be resolved within 1-2 weeks since they flagged it as priority.

I'm in week 4 of waiting and getting really desperate. Bills are piling up and I can't even get a straight answer from Washington ESD about what's causing the delay.

•Have you tried contacting your local WorkSource office? Sometimes they can help escalate issues.

Dylan Campbell
•No I haven't. Do they actually help with claim issues or just job search stuff?

Giovanni Colombo
•They can sometimes help with claim issues, especially if there are work search requirement questions.

For everyone waiting on first payments - Washington ESD has been dealing with a backlog since the system upgrades. Average processing time has increased from the usual 2-3 weeks to 4-6 weeks for claims requiring adjudication.

•Why don't they communicate this better? People are struggling and have no idea what's happening.

•Completely agree. The lack of transparency is one of the biggest complaints about the system.

Been there! Took 5 weeks for my first payment but once it came through I got all the back weeks at once. Just keep filing your weekly claims and hang in there.

•5 weeks... I really hope mine doesn't take that long. Did you ever find out what was causing the delay?

•Never got a clear answer. One day it just switched from 'under review' to 'paid' and the money showed up.

washington esd is a joke. i know people who waited 8+ weeks for their first payment with no explanation. the system is completely broken

•That's not helpful to people who are currently waiting. The system has issues but most claims do get processed eventually.

For anyone still struggling to get through to Washington ESD, I can't recommend Claimyr enough. Used it twice now and both times got connected to agents who actually resolved my issues. Worth checking out the demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ if you're tired of the runaround.

•Is this like a paid service? How does it work exactly?

Mei Wong
•Yeah it's a service that handles the calling process for you. They keep trying until they get through and then connect you to the agent. Saves hours of frustration.

Make sure your bank account info is correct in your Washington ESD profile. I had a friend whose payments were delayed because of an old account number.

Andre Rousseau
•Good point, I double-checked and my bank info is correct though.

•Then it's probably just the adjudication process. Frustrating but unfortunately normal right now.

The waiting is the worst part. I remember checking my account like 10 times a day when I was waiting for my first payment. Try to stay patient - once it starts flowing it's usually consistent.

•I'm definitely checking obsessively! Hard not to when you're counting every dollar.

Important reminder: if your claim gets approved, you'll receive payment for all the weeks you filed, including the waiting period. So keep filing even if it feels pointless right now.
0 coins
Andre Rousseau
•That's reassuring. I was wondering if I'd lose those weeks if the process takes too long.
0 coins
Keisha Johnson
•Nope, as long as you file your weekly claims you'll get backpay for eligible weeks once approved.

Try calling first thing Monday morning at 8am sharp. That's when I had the best luck getting through to Washington ESD before I learned about other options.

CosmicCowboy
•I've tried that multiple times with no luck. The lines are jammed from the second they open.

•Yeah it's hit or miss. That's why services like Claimyr exist - they handle all that frustration for you.

Document everything while you wait - dates you filed, weekly claim confirmations, any correspondence. If there are issues later you'll need that paper trail.

Andre Rousseau
•Good advice, I've been screenshotting everything just in case.

•Smart move. The more documentation you have, the easier it is to resolve any problems that come up.

Hang in there OP. I know the waiting is stressful but most claims do get approved eventually. The system is slow but it works... eventually.

•Thanks for the encouragement. Some days I wonder if I did something wrong when filing.

Oliver Schulz
•Probably not. The delays are mostly on Washington ESD's end, not anything you did wrong.
