When do I get unemployment payment from Washington ESD after filing?
I just filed my first unemployment claim with Washington ESD last Tuesday and I'm really confused about when I'll actually see money. The website says my claim is approved but I haven't gotten any payment yet. I've been doing my weekly claims but my bank account is still empty. Does anyone know how long it takes to get your first unemployment payment? I'm getting really stressed about rent coming up.

Usually takes about 2-3 weeks after your claim is approved to see your first payment. Make sure you're filing your weekly claims every week even if you don't see money yet - you won't get paid for weeks you don't file.

•Thanks! I've been filing weekly but it's been almost 2 weeks already. Should I be worried?

•Two weeks is still normal. The first payment always takes longer because they have to verify everything.

I'm in the same boat! Filed 3 weeks ago and still nothing. My claim shows approved but no payments. Starting to panic here.

•If it's been 3 weeks you should definitely call Washington ESD. That's longer than normal unless there's an issue with your claim.

•I've tried calling but can never get through. The lines are always busy.

For getting through to Washington ESD when you can't reach them by phone, I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me connected to an agent. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Saved me hours of trying to call.

•Is this legit? I'm desperate but don't want to get scammed.

•Yeah it's real, I was skeptical too but it actually worked. Got through to an agent in like 20 minutes instead of calling all day.

•How much does it cost though? I'm already broke waiting for unemployment.

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! I've been waiting 4 weeks and Washington ESD keeps giving me the runaround. They approve your claim then make you wait forever for money. Meanwhile bills are piling up and they don't care!

•I feel you. The stress is unreal when you're waiting for money you desperately need.

•Exactly! And try calling them - good luck getting through. It's like they don't want to pay out.

Let me break down the payment timeline for everyone confused. After your claim is approved, you need to file weekly claims every week. Your first payment typically comes 2-3 weeks after approval, but it includes payment for all the weeks you've filed. So if you filed 3 weekly claims, you'd get 3 weeks worth of payments at once.

•This is super helpful! So I should get multiple weeks at once when it finally comes through?
0 coins
Josef Tearle
•Exactly. That's why the first payment takes longer but is usually bigger than you expect.

•What if I missed filing one week? Am I screwed?

Josef Tearle
•You can't get paid for missed weeks, but you can continue filing going forward. Don't skip any more weeks.

Also make sure you're checking your payment method in your account. Sometimes people have direct deposit set up wrong or their debit card info is outdated. That can delay payments even after they're processed.

•Good point, I should double check that. Where do I find payment settings in my account?

•Log into your SAW account and look under payment preferences or account settings.

UPDATE: I used that Claimyr thing someone mentioned and finally got through to Washington ESD. Turns out there was an issue with my Social Security verification that was holding up payments. Agent fixed it in 5 minutes. Should see money by next week!

•That's awesome! I might have to try it too if I don't see anything soon.

•So it really works? I was skeptical about using any third party service.

•Yeah, I was worried too but it was legit. The agent I talked to was an actual Washington ESD employee.

For anyone still having trouble reaching Washington ESD, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier has been a game changer. Worth checking out if you're stuck in limbo like I was.

•Definitely worth it if you need to talk to someone. The video demo on their site explains exactly how it works.

Does anyone know if holidays affect payment timing? I'm wondering if that's why mine is taking longer.

Josef Tearle
•Yes, holidays can delay processing by a day or two. Bank holidays especially affect when money hits your account.

Quinn Herbert
•That makes sense. I filed right before a holiday weekend.

Thanks everyone for all the help! I checked my payment settings and they looked fine. I think I just need to be more patient. At least now I know what to expect.

•No problem! The waiting is the hardest part but you should see money soon.

•yeah once you get the first payment the rest come weekly like clockwork

Still think the whole system needs an overhaul. Making people wait weeks for money they're entitled to is ridiculous.

Josef Tearle
•I agree the wait is frustrating, but they do have to verify eligibility and process thousands of claims.

•Other states manage to pay faster. Washington ESD just needs better systems.

What happens if you don't get paid after a month? Is there someone specific to contact?
0 coins
Josef Tearle
•After a month you definitely need to call and find out what's wrong. That's way too long for a normal claim.

Shelby Bauman
•That's exactly when I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to them. A month is long enough to wait.

•I'm at 3 weeks now so hopefully I don't need to worry about that.

My sister had to wait almost 6 weeks because she forgot to verify her identity. Make sure you've completed all the steps in your account.

•Where do I check if I need to verify identity? I don't remember doing that.

•Should be in your account dashboard if there are any action items needed.

Final tip: payments usually hit accounts Tuesday nights or Wednesday mornings for most people. So if you don't see anything by Thursday, that's when I'd start worrying.
