What day do you get paid from Washington ESD unemployment benefits?
I just got approved for my unemployment claim last week and I'm trying to figure out when I can expect my first payment. I filed my weekly claim on Sunday but I don't see any payment date in my account. Does Washington ESD pay on specific days of the week? I'm getting really anxious because I have rent due and need to know when the money will hit my account.

Washington ESD typically processes payments Tuesday through Thursday, but it depends on when you file your weekly claim and if there are any issues with it. Most people get paid within 2-3 business days after filing their weekly claim if everything is clean.

•Thanks! I filed Sunday night so hopefully I'll see something by Wednesday or Thursday then.

If this is your first payment it might take a little longer because Washington ESD has to set up your payment method. Make sure you have direct deposit set up in your account or they'll mail you a debit card which takes like a week.

•I did set up direct deposit when I applied. How do I check if it's actually working?

•Log into your account and go to payment options, it should show your bank info there. If it says pending or anything other than active you might have an issue.

I've been trying to call Washington ESD for weeks to check on my payment status but can never get through. The phone system is absolutely horrible - I either get disconnected or sit on hold for hours. Has anyone found a way to actually reach someone?

•I had the same problem until I found this service called Claimyr at claimyr.com. They basically call Washington ESD for you and connect you when an agent picks up. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Saved me so much frustration.

•That sounds too good to be true. How much does it cost?

•It's worth checking out if you're spending hours trying to call. I was able to get my payment issue resolved in one call instead of wasting weeks trying to reach them myself.

WASHINGTON ESD PAYMENT SCHEDULE IS A JOKE! I filed my claim three weeks ago and still haven't received a single payment. Every time I check my account it just says 'processing' with no explanation. Meanwhile my bills are piling up and I can't get anyone on the phone to tell me what's wrong.

•Have you checked if your claim is in adjudication? That can delay payments for weeks while they investigate something.

•How do I check that? My account doesn't show anything about adjudication.

•In your account look for 'claim status' or 'determination' section. If it shows adjudication pending that's why you're not getting paid yet.

The payment timing also depends on your bank. Some banks hold unemployment deposits for a day or two before releasing them. I have Bank of America and they usually release my Washington ESD payment the same day it's processed, but my friend with Wells Fargo has to wait an extra day.

•I have Chase. Do you know if they hold unemployment payments?

•Chase is usually pretty fast with government deposits. You should see it the same day Washington ESD processes it.

Wait are we talking about regular UI or standby? Because standby payments work differently and you might not get paid every week if your employer doesn't report your hours correctly.

Carmen Vega
•I'm on regular unemployment, not standby. I got laid off completely.

•Ok then you should get paid weekly as long as you file your weekly claims on time and don't have any adjudication issues.

Pro tip: Washington ESD usually updates payment information overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. So if you file your weekly claim on Sunday, check your account Wednesday morning to see the payment date and amount.

•That's really helpful! I'll check Wednesday morning then.

•This is good advice. I always check Wednesday mornings and can see when my payment will hit my account.

I had a nightmare experience with Washington ESD payments when I first started. Took almost a month to get my first payment because they couldn't verify my identity or something. Had to upload like 10 different documents and still couldn't reach anyone to explain what was wrong. Finally used that Claimyr service someone mentioned and got connected to an agent who walked me through exactly what they needed. Got my back pay within a week after that.

•What kind of documents did they want for identity verification?

Dylan Cooper
•Driver's license, social security card, and pay stubs from my last job. But apparently they wanted specific formats or something and the agent had to tell me exactly what they needed to see.

Just be patient with the first payment. Once you get into the routine it's pretty predictable. File Sunday, get paid Wednesday/Thursday. The first one always takes longer because they have to set everything up.

•Thanks for the reassurance. I'm just stressed about bills but I guess a few more days won't kill me.

Does anyone know if Washington ESD pays on holidays? Like if Wednesday is a holiday do they pay Tuesday or Thursday instead?
0 coins
QuantumQuester
•They usually process a day earlier if there's a federal holiday. So if Wednesday is a holiday they'll process Tuesday, but check your account to be sure.

•Good to know, thanks!

I've been getting unemployment for 4 months now and the payment schedule has been pretty consistent. File weekly claim on Sunday, payment shows up in my account Wednesday morning around 6am. Only time it was different was during that holiday weekend in December.

Carmen Vega
•That gives me hope that it'll be consistent once I get started. Thanks for sharing your experience.

make sure you're doing your job search log correctly too because if they audit you and you haven't been documenting your job searches properly they can make you pay everything back

Carmen Vega
•Wait what? How many job searches do I need to do per week?
0 coins
QuantumQuester
•You need to do at least 3 job search activities per week in Washington and keep records of them. Check the WorkSource website for what counts as valid job search activities.

Ava Martinez
•yeah and keep good records because they can ask for proof anytime

If you're still having trouble getting through to Washington ESD, I second the recommendation for Claimyr. I was skeptical at first but it actually works. Got connected to an agent in like 20 minutes instead of calling all day and never getting through.

Zainab Omar
•How does that even work? Do they have some special phone number or something?

Miguel Ortiz
•They basically keep calling for you until they get through, then conference you in. Check out their demo video to see how it works.

The key thing is to file your weekly claim as early as possible on Sunday. I used to wait until Sunday night and sometimes my payments would be delayed. Now I file first thing Sunday morning and get paid like clockwork.

Carmen Vega
•I'll try filing earlier next Sunday then. Thanks for the tip!

Just want to add that if you're expecting your first payment and it doesn't show up when you think it should, don't panic immediately. Sometimes there are processing delays or they need additional verification. But definitely try to contact them if it's been more than a week since you filed your first weekly claim.

•That's reassuring. I'll give it until Thursday and then start worrying if I don't see anything by then.

•Good plan. And remember your first payment might include back pay from when you first became eligible, so it could be larger than your regular weekly amount.
