What time do I certify for unemployment benefits with Washington ESD?

I'm new to this whole unemployment thing and I'm confused about the certification timing. I know I have to file my weekly claim every week but what time can I actually do it? Is there a specific window when the system opens up? I tried logging into my SecureAccess Washington account this morning around 6 AM but it seemed like the system wasn't ready yet. Do I have to wait until a certain time on Sunday or can I do it anytime during the week?

Weekly claim filing usually opens up around 6 AM on Sunday mornings. The system can be slow early in the morning though because everyone tries to certify right when it opens. You have until Saturday night to file your weekly claim for that week.

Thanks! So I can file anytime between Sunday 6 AM and Saturday night? That gives me the whole week basically.

0 coins

Exactly! Just don't wait until the last minute on Saturday because the system sometimes gets overloaded then too.

I've been filing my weekly claims for months now and I always do it Sunday morning around 8 AM. By then the system is usually running smoothly. Don't stress about doing it at exactly 6 AM - you have plenty of time.

Good to know! I was worried I had to wake up super early every Sunday.

Same here, I do mine Sunday mornings with my coffee. Makes it routine.

If you're having trouble getting through to check your exact filing schedule, I recently discovered Claimyr which helps you actually reach Washington ESD agents by phone. Their system calls for you and gets you connected when an agent is available. Check out claimyr.com - they even have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Super helpful when you need to talk to someone directly about your claim details.

Oh wow, that sounds helpful! I've been trying to call Washington ESD for days with no luck.

0 coins

How much does that service cost? I've been on hold for hours trying to reach someone.

0 coins

It's worth checking out their site for details, but honestly the time it saves is huge compared to sitting on hold all day.

Just to add - make sure you're answering all the questions correctly when you certify. The job search questions especially. You need to be actively looking for work and keep records of your job search activities.

0 coins

How many job searches do I need to do per week? I'm still figuring out the requirements.

0 coins

In Washington you need to make at least 3 job search contacts per week. Keep detailed records of each contact - company name, position, date, method of contact.

0 coins

And they can audit your job search log at any time so don't make stuff up!

SUNDAY 6AM IS WHEN THE SYSTEM OPENS BUT GOOD LUCK GETTING THROUGH. The whole Washington ESD system is overloaded and crashes constantly. I've been fighting with this for weeks.

0 coins

Oh no, that's discouraging. Have you been able to file at all?

0 coins

Eventually yes but it takes multiple tries. Sometimes I have to wait until Monday or Tuesday when fewer people are on the system.

0 coins

Pro tip: if the system is acting up on Sunday morning, try again in the afternoon or evening. I've found it's usually much more stable after the initial rush.

0 coins

That's smart! I'll try different times if I run into issues.

0 coins

Yeah Sunday evenings are usually pretty quiet on the system.

0 coins

wait so I can file my weekly claim ANY day of the week? I thought it had to be on Sunday specifically?? I've been stressing about this for no reason

0 coins

No, you can file anytime from Sunday 6 AM until Saturday night. Sunday is just when the new week opens up for filing.

0 coins

omg thank you! I work Sunday mornings so this is perfect

0 coins

Make sure you file for the correct week! The system shows you which week you're filing for but I've seen people accidentally file for the wrong dates and then have to call Washington ESD to fix it.

0 coins

How do I know which week I'm supposed to file for?

0 coins

When you log in to file your weekly claim, it will show you the specific dates for that week. Just double check that it matches the week you're claiming.

0 coins

Been on unemployment for 6 months now and my routine is Sunday evening around 7 PM. System is stable, I can take my time with the questions, and I don't have to rush. Works great for me.

0 coins

Good idea! I like the idea of making it a routine so I don't forget.

0 coins

Same here, Sunday evening is perfect timing.

0 coins

Quick question - if I miss the deadline and don't file by Saturday night, can I still file late or do I lose that week's benefits?

0 coins

You can file late but you need to call Washington ESD to explain why you missed the deadline. They may or may not allow the late filing depending on your reason.

0 coins

Good to know, thanks! I'll make sure not to miss it then.

0 coins

I use Claimyr when I need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD about my claim. Way better than trying to call directly and getting busy signals all day. Their system handles the calling for you and connects you when an agent is free.

0 coins

Is it legit? I'm always worried about third-party services.

0 coins

Yeah it's legitimate. They have a demo video that shows exactly how it works. Saved me hours of calling.

0 coins

Does anyone know if you can file your weekly claim from your phone or does it have to be on a computer? I don't always have computer access on weekends.

0 coins

You can definitely file from your phone through the SecureAccess Washington mobile site. Just make sure you have a stable internet connection.

0 coins

Perfect! That makes it so much easier.

0 coins

Honestly the whole system is a mess. I've been trying to certify for weeks and keep getting error messages. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Washington ESD really needs to fix their technology.

0 coins

That's frustrating! Have you been able to get through to anyone for help?

0 coins

I finally got through using that Claimyr service someone mentioned. They were able to help me figure out what was wrong with my account.

0 coins

Just want to confirm - the weekly claim filing opens Sunday at 6 AM Pacific time right? I'm in a different time zone and want to make sure I have the timing right.

0 coins

Yes, 6 AM Pacific time since Washington ESD operates on Pacific time. Adjust accordingly for your time zone.

0 coins

Thank you! That helps a lot.

0 coins

One more thing - make sure you have all your information ready before you start filing. Job search activities, any work you did that week, any income you earned. It makes the process much faster.

0 coins

Good tip! I'll make sure to gather everything beforehand.

0 coins

Yeah, nothing worse than getting halfway through and realizing you need to look something up.

0 coins

I usually file mine Tuesday mornings before work. Never had any issues with the system being slow and it gives me time to think about my answers without rushing.

0 coins

That sounds like a good strategy. I might try weekday mornings too.

0 coins

Weekday mornings are definitely less crowded on the system.

0 coins

PSA: Don't wait until Friday or Saturday to file if you can help it. I learned the hard way that the system gets really slow those days too because of all the procrastinators like me lol

0 coins

Haha good to know! I'll try to file earlier in the week.

0 coins

Yeah, mid-week is definitely the sweet spot for system performance.

0 coins

Quick update for everyone - if you're having trouble with the SecureAccess Washington login, try clearing your browser cache. That fixed my login issues last week.

0 coins

Thanks for the tip! I'll remember that if I run into login problems.

0 coins

No problem! Tech issues are so frustrating when you're trying to certify.

0 coins

This thread has been super helpful! I was so confused about the timing but now I feel much more confident about filing my weekly claims. Thanks everyone!
