What does rejected mean on unemployment weekly claim - Washington ESD confused me
I just checked my Washington ESD account and my weekly claim from last week shows as 'rejected' instead of the usual 'paid' or 'pending'. I've been filing the same way for 2 months without any problems. Nothing changed in my situation - still looking for work, reporting zero earnings, doing my job searches. What does this rejected status actually mean? Is my whole claim screwed up now or just this one week? I'm freaking out because I have rent due and was counting on this payment.

Don't panic yet! A rejected weekly claim usually means there was an issue with how you answered one of the questions on your weekly filing. Common reasons include accidentally marking that you refused work, weren't available for work, or didn't do your required job searches. Check your SecureAccess Washington account to see if there's a specific reason listed.

•I looked but it just says 'rejected' with no other explanation. Should I call Washington ESD to find out why?

•Yes, definitely call. They can tell you exactly which question triggered the rejection and help you understand what went wrong.

this happened to me before and it was because i accidentally clicked yes when they asked if i refused any work offers. took forever to get through to someone at esd to fix it

•How long did it take you to get through? I've been trying to call for hours.

•like 3 hours of calling over and over. super frustrating

If you can't get through to Washington ESD by phone, try using Claimyr at claimyr.com - it's a service that helps you actually reach an agent. I used it last month when I had a similar issue and got through in about 20 minutes instead of spending all day calling. There's even a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Is that legitimate? Sounds too good to be true with how impossible it is to reach Washington ESD.

•Yeah it's real, they basically automate the calling process for you. Saved me so much time and frustration.

•I might try this if I can't get through today. Thanks for the tip!

The rejection could also be triggered if you didn't complete all your required job search activities for that week. Washington ESD requires 3 job search activities per week unless you're in approved training. Did you log all your searches in WorkSourceWA?

Douglas Foster
•I did log my job searches but maybe I only did 2 that week instead of 3? Would that cause a rejection?

•Absolutely. If you don't meet the minimum requirement, your weekly claim gets rejected automatically. You'll need to explain the situation to an agent.

UGH the Washington ESD system is SO frustrating! I've been dealing with claim issues for weeks and can never get anyone on the phone. They make it impossible to fix simple mistakes.

•Tell me about it. I've been calling since 8am and keep getting the busy signal or hung up on.

•It's like they don't want us to get help. The whole system is broken.

In most cases, a rejected weekly claim can be corrected once you talk to an agent. They can reprocess the claim if it was due to a simple error in how you answered the questions. The key is getting through to explain what happened.

•Will I lose that week's payment completely or can they backdate it once it's fixed?
0 coins
Nina Chan
•They can usually backdate it to the correct week once the issue is resolved, so you shouldn't lose the money permanently.

Same thing happened to my neighbor last month. Turned out she accidentally said she wasn't able and available to work when she meant to say she was. Simple mistake but caused a rejection.

Douglas Foster
•How did she get it fixed?

•Had to call and explain the mistake. Agent corrected it and released the payment within a few days.

Check if you have any pending issues in your account too. Sometimes a rejection happens because there's an underlying adjudication issue that needs to be resolved first.

Douglas Foster
•I don't see any pending issues or adjudication notices in my account. Just the rejected claim.

•Then it's probably just an error on that specific weekly claim. Definitely call to get it sorted out.

If calling directly isn't working, seriously consider trying Claimyr. I know I mentioned it before but it really does help cut through the phone maze. Much better than spending entire days trying to get through on your own.

•I'm skeptical but might try it. This rejection thing has me stressed and I need answers.

•I was skeptical too but it worked exactly as advertised. Worth a shot when the alternative is endless busy signals.

whatever you do dont file another weekly claim until you get this sorted out. i made that mistake once and it created even more problems

•Good point. I'll wait to file this week's claim until I understand what went wrong.

For future reference, always double-check your answers before submitting your weekly claim. The questions are worded confusingly sometimes and it's easy to click the wrong response accidentally.

•I thought I was being careful but you're right, some of those questions are confusing.

•I always read each question twice now after making a similar mistake early on.

The good news is that rejected claims are usually fixable. It's not like a disqualification or something permanent. Just an administrative hiccup that needs clarification.

Douglas Foster
•That makes me feel a bit better. I was worried my whole claim was ruined.

•Nope, just this one week's claim. Once you talk to an agent it should get resolved pretty quickly.

I had a rejected claim last year because I forgot to update my address in the system. Sometimes it's something really random like that.
0 coins
Douglas Foster
•My address hasn't changed so that's not it. Must be something else.

Donna Cline
•Yeah every situation is different. The agent will be able to tell you exactly what happened.

Just want to add that when you do get through to Washington ESD, have your claim confirmation number ready and be prepared to explain exactly how you answered each question on the rejected weekly claim. Makes the call go faster.

Douglas Foster
•Good tip! I'll write down what I remember about my answers before calling.

•That's smart. Having all your info ready definitely helps the agent figure out what went wrong.

been there! got a rejected claim last month too and spent 2 whole days trying to reach someone. finally got through and it was fixed in 5 minutes

•2 days?? That's crazy. I really hope I can get through faster than that.

•yeah it was ridiculous. but once i talked to an agent it was super easy to fix

Another option is to try calling right when they open at 8am or during lunch time around noon. Sometimes those are less busy times.

Douglas Foster
•I tried at 8am today but still couldn't get through. I'll try the lunch time suggestion.

•Or just use Claimyr and avoid the guesswork about timing. It handles the calling for you.

Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even with this rejection issue. Don't let other weeks lapse while you're sorting this out.

•Wait I thought you said not to file until it's sorted out?

•I meant keep filing new weeks but don't refile the rejected week. Different advice for different situations.

•This is confusing. I think I'll ask the agent what to do about future claims when I finally get through.

Hope you get this sorted out quickly! Rejected claims are stressful but they're usually just paperwork issues that get resolved fast once you reach the right person.

UPDATE REQUEST: Did you ever figure out what caused the rejection? I'm dealing with the same thing right now and would love to know what the issue was.

•I finally got through using that Claimyr service someone mentioned. Turns out I accidentally marked that I attended school that week when I didn't. Agent fixed it in 10 minutes and payment came through 2 days later.

•Awesome, thanks for the update! I'll check my answers more carefully and probably try Claimyr too.

That's such a relief that it was just a simple checkbox error! I'm glad the Claimyr service worked for you - I've been hesitant to try third-party services but your experience makes it sound legitimate. It's crazy how one accidental click can cause so much stress and worry. Thanks for coming back to update everyone on what the actual issue was and how you resolved it. This will definitely help other people who face the same problem.

•Exactly! I was panicking thinking my entire unemployment claim was ruined over what ended up being a simple mistake. It's so easy to misread those questions or accidentally click the wrong answer. The Claimyr service really was a game changer - I was skeptical at first too but after spending hours trying to call directly with no luck, it was worth every penny to actually get through to a human. Hopefully this thread helps other people realize that rejected claims aren't the end of the world and there are solutions available.

This is exactly why I always screenshot my weekly claim answers before submitting! It's so easy to accidentally click the wrong button, especially when you're filing quickly. I learned this the hard way after getting a rejection for accidentally saying I wasn't available for work when I meant to say I was. Now I take my time and double-check every single answer. The Washington ESD questions can be confusing with their wording - like the "did you attend school" question that tripped you up. Great advice about Claimyr too, I've heard good things about it from others in this community.
