What does eligible redetermined mean for unemployment - Washington ESD confused me

I logged into my Washington ESD account today and my claim status changed to 'eligible redetermined' but I have no idea what this actually means. I've been getting benefits for 6 weeks now without any issues, filing my weekly claims on time and doing my job searches. Yesterday it just said 'eligible' and now there's this 'redetermined' part added. Did something go wrong with my claim? Should I be worried about having to pay money back? The Washington ESD website doesn't really explain what this status means and I can't get through on the phone.

Don't panic! Eligible redetermined usually means Washington ESD reviewed your claim again for some reason and confirmed you're still eligible for benefits. It's actually a good thing - they double-checked everything and you passed. Could be they got new wage information from an employer or had to verify something about your job separation.

0 coins

That's such a relief to hear! I was imagining the worst. Do you know why they would review it again after 6 weeks?

0 coins

Lots of reasons - maybe an employer finally responded to their inquiry about your separation, or they got updated wage records. The system does periodic reviews too.

0 coins

ugh the washington esd website is so confusing with all these status changes. mine said eligible redetermined last month and i freaked out too but nothing bad happened

0 coins

Did your payments continue normally after that status change?

0 coins

yeah everything stayed the same, just kept filing weekly claims like usual

0 coins

I had this exact same thing happen! Washington ESD redetermined my eligibility after my former employer contested my claim. They investigated everything and determined I was still eligible for UI benefits. The 'redetermined' part just means they looked at it a second time instead of the original determination.

0 coins

Oh no, do you think my employer contested my claim too? I left because they cut my hours to basically nothing.

0 coins

If they contested it, you would have gotten a notice about it. Redeterminations happen for lots of reasons, not just employer contests.

0 coins

Actually if you're still showing eligible after redetermination, that means whatever they reviewed worked out in your favor. If there was a problem you'd see something like 'disqualified' or 'ineligible'.

0 coins

I've been trying to get through to Washington ESD for three days about my own claim issues. Their phone system is absolutely terrible - either busy signals or it just hangs up on you after waiting forever. Has anyone found a way to actually talk to someone there?

0 coins

I was having the same problem until someone told me about Claimyr. It's a service that calls Washington ESD for you and gets you connected to an actual agent. I tried their demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ and it actually worked - got through to someone at Washington ESD in like 20 minutes instead of spending all day trying myself. Check out claimyr.com if you're tired of the runaround.

0 coins

Interesting, I've never heard of that. Does it actually work or is it just another scam?

0 coins

No it's legit - they don't ask for your personal info or anything sketchy. They just handle the calling part and connect you when they get an agent on the line.

0 coins

To directly answer your question - 'eligible redetermined' on Washington ESD means they reviewed your claim eligibility again and confirmed you still qualify for unemployment benefits. This happens when new information comes in (wage records, employer responses, etc.) or during routine quality reviews. Since you're still showing as eligible, everything is fine with your claim.

0 coins

Thank you for the clear explanation! So I should just keep filing my weekly claims as normal?

0 coins

Exactly - continue filing your weekly claims, keep doing your job searches, and maintain your job search log. Nothing changes on your end.

0 coins

This is so helpful! I had the same status and was worried I did something wrong.

0 coins

THE WASHINGTON ESD SYSTEM IS SO POORLY DESIGNED!!! Why can't they just use plain English instead of these confusing status messages? 'Eligible redetermined' sounds scary when you're depending on these benefits to pay rent!

0 coins

seriously! they make everything sound so official and scary when they could just say 'we double checked and you're still good

0 coins

I agree the terminology is confusing, but at least 'eligible' is in there so you know it's positive. If something was wrong it would say 'disqualified' or 'ineligible'.

0 coins

Yeah I guess you're right about that. Still wish they'd make it clearer for people who are already stressed about money.

0 coins

I work in HR and see a lot of unemployment stuff. Redeterminations usually happen when Washington ESD gets additional information about your claim - could be updated wage records from a previous employer, clarification about your job separation, or verification of your work search activities. The fact that you're still eligible means whatever they reviewed was favorable to you.

0 coins

That makes me feel so much better. I was imagining they found some mistake I made.

0 coins

Nope, if you made a mistake that affected eligibility, the status would change to reflect that. You're in good shape.

0 coins

wait so if it says eligible redetermined does that mean they might change their mind again later?

0 coins

They can always review claims if new information comes up, but redetermined just means they already took a second look at something specific. It's not more likely to change again than any other claim.

0 coins

Right, every unemployment claim can potentially be reviewed if circumstances change or new info comes in. The redetermined part just tells you they already did one review.

0 coins

For what it's worth, I've had 'eligible redetermined' status for like 8 weeks now and nothing has changed. Still getting my weekly payments as long as I file my claims and do my job searches. I think once they redetermine you as eligible, that's pretty solid.

0 coins

That's really reassuring to hear from someone who's been through it already.

0 coins

Same here - had this status for months with no issues.

0 coins

Does anyone know if eligible redetermined affects how long you can collect benefits? Like does the redetermination reset your claim in any way?

0 coins

No, redetermination doesn't reset your benefit year or change how many weeks you have left. It's just a review of your existing claim eligibility.

0 coins

Correct - your benefit year dates and maximum weeks available stay the same. The redetermination only confirms you meet the eligibility requirements.

0 coins

Update on trying to reach Washington ESD - I tried that Claimyr thing someone mentioned and actually got through to an agent today! Took about 30 minutes but way better than the days I spent trying to call myself. They were able to explain my claim status and answer all my questions.

0 coins

Awesome! Glad it worked for you too. Makes such a difference when you can actually talk to someone who knows what they're talking about.

0 coins

Might have to try this myself - been trying to get through for weeks about my job search requirement questions.

0 coins

Thanks everyone for explaining this! I feel so much better about my claim status now. The Washington ESD website really needs better explanations of these terms.

0 coins

Seriously, this thread was way more helpful than anything on their official site.

0 coins

The community knowledge here is always better than the official documentation. People share real experiences instead of just policy language.

0 coins

I had a similar situation but mine said 'eligible redetermined' and then a week later it changed to 'monetary redetermined' too. Anyone know what that combination means?

0 coins

Monetary redetermined usually means they recalculated your weekly benefit amount based on updated wage information. Did your payment amount change?

0 coins

Actually yes! It went up by like $40 per week. I guess they got more complete wage records from one of my employers.

0 coins

That makes sense - sometimes employers are slow to report wages and when Washington ESD finally gets the complete information, they recalculate your benefits. Good news for you!

0 coins

This whole thread is making me feel so much better about unemployment statuses in general. I've been overthinking every little change in my account.

0 coins

Same! I think when you're depending on these benefits you analyze every word on the website.

0 coins

yeah the anxiety is real when this money is paying your bills

0 coins

Question about job searches - if your status is eligible redetermined, do you still need to do the same number of job search activities each week? Mine is still showing I need 3 per week.

0 coins

Yes, all the regular requirements stay the same. Eligible redetermined doesn't change your job search requirements, work availability requirements, or any other conditions of your claim.

0 coins

Exactly - keep logging your job searches in WorkSourceWA and doing everything you were doing before. The redetermination doesn't change the ongoing requirements.

0 coins

I tried calling Washington ESD about my job search questions using that Claimyr service and it actually worked great. Got connected to someone who walked me through exactly what activities count and how to log them properly. Way better than trying to figure it out from their confusing website.

0 coins

Good to know! I might try that too since I'm never sure if I'm doing the job search logging correctly.

0 coins

The peace of mind from actually talking to someone who knows the system is worth it.

0 coins

Just want to say thanks to everyone who explained eligible redetermined. I was losing sleep over this status change and now I understand it's actually not a bad thing at all!

0 coins

Right? This community is so helpful for understanding Washington ESD stuff that they don't explain well themselves.

0 coins

Definitely bookmarking this thread in case I need to reference it later!

0 coins

For anyone still having trouble reaching Washington ESD by phone, I've used Claimyr a few times now and it's been consistent. Saves so much time and frustration compared to trying to get through yourself. Their demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ shows exactly how it works.

0 coins

I'm definitely going to check this out. Spent 4 hours yesterday trying to get through with no luck.

0 coins

It's legit - I was skeptical at first but it really does work. Much better than wasting whole days on hold.

0 coins

One more question - if you have eligible redetermined status, does that mean you're less likely to have issues with future weekly claims?

0 coins

Not necessarily more or less likely than any other eligible claim. The redetermined part just means they already took an extra look at your eligibility once. Future issues would depend on new circumstances.

0 coins

I'd say if anything it might be slightly positive since they already did an extra review and confirmed everything looks good. But each weekly claim is still processed individually.

0 coins

This has been super educational! I work part-time and collect partial unemployment, and my status also shows eligible redetermined. Good to know it applies to partial claims too and doesn't mean anything scary.

0 coins

Yes, redeterminations can happen with any type of unemployment claim - regular UI, partial benefits, standby status, etc. The process is the same regardless of claim type.

0 coins

Thanks for mentioning partial claims! I didn't even think about how this applies to different claim types.

0 coins

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! My status changed to 'eligible redetermined' yesterday and I was panicking thinking I did something wrong. Reading through all these responses is such a relief - sounds like it's actually a good thing that they reviewed everything and I'm still eligible. The Washington ESD website really needs to explain these status changes better instead of leaving people to guess what they mean. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

0 coins

I'm so glad this thread helped you too! I was in the exact same boat yesterday - seeing that status change and immediately thinking the worst. It's crazy how Washington ESD uses these official-sounding terms that make everything seem scary when really they're just telling you they double-checked and you're still good to go. Definitely agree they need better explanations on their website!

0 coins

Absolutely! This whole thread has been a lifesaver for understanding these confusing status messages. I had the same panic reaction when I first saw "redetermined" - it just sounds so official and ominous when you're already stressed about finances. But now I realize it's actually reassuring that they took an extra look and confirmed everything is still good. Definitely keeping this bookmarked in case any other weird status changes pop up on my account!

0 coins

Same here! I just had my status change to 'eligible redetermined' this morning and immediately started googling what it meant. Found this thread and wow, what a relief! It's so frustrating that Washington ESD doesn't just say "we reviewed your claim again and you still qualify" instead of using these confusing official terms. Makes you think something terrible happened when really it's neutral or even positive news. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - this community is way more helpful than the actual ESD website!

0 coins

This thread is such a goldmine! I just went through the same exact panic when my status changed to 'eligible redetermined' last week. Like everyone else said, I immediately thought I was in trouble or had made some mistake. But after reading all these experiences, it's clear that Washington ESD just has terrible communication about what these statuses actually mean. It's like they deliberately choose the most confusing wording possible! My payments have continued normally and everything is fine. Really wish they would just say "we double-checked your eligibility and you're still approved" instead of this cryptic government-speak that sends everyone into a tailspin.
