Weekly claim stuck on 'processing' status for 2+ weeks - ESD payment delay

Has anyone else's weekly claim been stuck on 'processing' for a long time? I filed my claim on March 2 (2025) and it's still showing as 'processing' in my ESD account. Normally my payments are deposited within 3 business days but it's been over 2 weeks now. My previous weeks all went through fine! I tried calling ESD about 40 times this week but can't get through. The automated system just says they're experiencing high call volume and disconnects me. I checked my account for notices or alerts but there's nothing showing any issues or disqualifications. My bank info hasn't changed either. Do I need to keep filing weekly claims while this is sorting out? I'm getting really worried since rent is coming up and I was counting on this payment. It's for $876 which is way more than I can afford to be missing right now.

Ugh, mine is doing the same thing! My claim from last week is still on processing too. I think they're having system issues over at ESD (shocker). My friend who works at WorkSource said they've been hearing about delays across the board.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone! Did your friend mention how long the delays might last? I seriously can't afford to wait much longer.

I double-checked all my answers and I'm pretty sure they were correct. I said I was able and available each day, and reported the one job contact I had that week. So frustrating they don't tell you if there's a problem!

This is actually a common issue right now. ESD is experiencing a backlog in processing claims due to their system update that happened in late February. You should definitely keep filing your weekly claims even while the previous one is processing - don't skip any weeks! Check if your claim might have hit an "adjudication" status which means they're reviewing something. This wouldn't necessarily show up as a disqualification yet. You can check this by going to your account dashboard and looking at the "Issues and Decisions" section. If you've verified there are no issues showing, it's likely just the processing delay, but you'll still want to reach ESD directly to make sure nothing else is going on.

Thanks for the detailed info! I checked the "Issues and Decisions" section and there's nothing there, so it must be the backlog. I'll definitely keep filing my weekly claims. Just wish there was a way to actually talk to someone at ESD to confirm everything's okay.

I was stuck in the same boat last month with a claim sitting in processing for almost 3 weeks! It was maddening because I couldn't get ANY information. After days of trying to call and getting hung up on by their system, I found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an ESD agent in under 30 minutes (after I had spent days trying on my own). I was skeptical at first, but it worked. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 When I finally got through, the agent told me my claim was flagged for a random earnings review but there was no notification sent to me. They cleared it on the spot and my payment was processed the next day.

does that actually work?? ive been trying to call for 2 days straight and either get disconnected or sit on hold for 3 hours before having to hang up for work

It worked for me! The agent I spoke with said they were having major issues with their notification system after the February update, so a lot of people have claims under review without knowing why. Worth getting through to check what's happening with yours.

This processing delay is happening to many claimants right now due to ESD implementing their new verification system. The important things to know: 1) YES, continue filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the previous ones to process 2) If your claim hits the 3-week mark without processing, it will automatically be flagged for manual review 3) Make sure you've completed all identity verification steps in your account 4) Check that you've submitted your work search logs correctly - this is a common trigger for delays 5) The "processing" status doesn't mean there's necessarily a problem, but after 3+ weeks you should definitely try to speak with an agent Unfortunately, the current average processing time has increased from 48-72 hours to 8-12 business days for many claimants. ESD hasn't made an official announcement about this delay, but it's affecting approximately 30% of all weekly claims filed since the system update.

Thank you for this detailed information! I've checked my work search logs and everything looks correct there. My identity was verified months ago when I first applied, so that shouldn't be an issue. I've submitted 3 job contacts each week as required. I guess I'll have to find a way to get through to an agent since it's been over 3 weeks now.

You're welcome! One more thing to check: log into your account and see if there's a new identity verification notice. Some claimants are being asked to re-verify even if they've done it before. It would be under "Notices" or sometimes as a banner at the top of your dashboard. The system update has been causing all sorts of issues like this.

THEY ALWAYS DO THIS!! ESD is the WORST agency in the state I swear. They will hold your money for no reason and never tell you why, then expect you to somehow magically get through on their phone lines that are DESIGNED to kick people off. I had three weeks stuck in processing last year and when I finally got through they said it was because my previous employer disputed something from 6 MONTHS earlier. But did they notify me? NOPE! Had to find out after almost getting evicted. The whole system is rigged against us.

That sounds horrible! How did you eventually get through to them? I'm worried there might be some issue I don't know about too.

I had to call right when they opened at 8:00 AM exactly, and it still took me 4 days of trying. Keep trying different times of day. Some people say Thursdays are better for some reason. Good luck, the system is literally designed to make you give up!

Just an update for everyone in this situation - ESD released a statement this morning acknowledging the processing delays. They're saying it's affecting about 27% of claims and should be resolved within 7-10 business days. They recommend continuing to file weekly claims as normal and say that all eligible payments will be backdated once the issue is resolved. The problem is related to their new fraud detection system that was implemented during the February update. Claims aren't being rejected, just held for additional automated review.

Thank you so much for the update! That's a relief to hear it's a known issue they're working on. I'll keep filing my weekly claims and hope it resolves soon. Where did you see this statement? I didn't get any email or notification about it.

It was posted on their official Twitter account and on the ESD website under "System Alerts" (it's a bit buried on the site). They should really be sending emails to affected claimants but they haven't done that yet.

wait do we still need to do the 3 job search activities even if our claims are stuck? i haven't been doing them cuz i thought my claim was denied or something

•

YES! You absolutely must continue your job search activities and document them every week, even if your payments are delayed. If you don't, when they finally process your claims, you could be disqualified for those weeks. The requirement is 3 job search activities per week for regular UI claims, regardless of payment status.

oh no!!!! i missed like 2 weeks of job searches thinking it didn't matter. am i totally screwed now????

Don't panic - document your activities for this week and moving forward. When you speak with ESD, explain the situation honestly. Sometimes they can work with you if you had a good-faith misunderstanding, especially with all the system confusion happening. But you need to start doing and recording your activities immediately.

UPDATE: My claim finally processed! It took almost 3 weeks but the money showed up in my account this morning. I never did get through to anyone at ESD, but I kept filing my weekly claims like you all suggested. For anyone else dealing with this - hang in there, it seems they are working through the backlog gradually.

That's great to hear! Mine's still showing as processing but hopefully it'll clear soon too. Did you get any notification that it was going to be paid or did the money just appear?

No notification at all - it just changed from "Processing" to "Paid" in my account overnight and the money showed up in my bank account this morning. The ESD website still shows no explanation for the delay.
