Washington ESD back pay for unemployment - when do I actually get it?
I've been waiting on my Washington ESD claim for almost 6 weeks now and it finally got approved yesterday. My account shows I'm eligible for back pay going back to when I first filed, but I'm confused about when this money actually hits my account. The website just says 'payment processing' but doesn't give any timeline. Has anyone recently gotten back pay from Washington ESD? How long did it take to show up after your claim was approved?

Back pay from Washington ESD usually processes within 2-3 business days after your claim approval. You should see separate deposits for each week you were eligible. Check your payment method in your SecureAccess Washington account to make sure everything's set up correctly.

•Thanks! I have direct deposit set up so hopefully it comes through soon. Do they send it all at once or week by week?

•In my experience, Washington ESD sends it as separate deposits for each week, so you might see multiple transactions over a few days.

I had the same situation last month. My claim was in adjudication for 5 weeks and when it finally got approved, I received 5 separate back pay deposits over 3 days. Each deposit was for one week of benefits. Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for back pay!

•Oh good to know about continuing weekly claims. I was wondering if I should stop filing since the back pay covers those weeks.

•No, definitely keep filing! Washington ESD requires continuous weekly claim filing to maintain eligibility, even for back pay periods.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check on your back pay status, I found this service called Claimyr that helped me reach an agent quickly. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Saved me hours of trying to call.

•How much does something like that cost? I've been calling Washington ESD for weeks with no luck.

•It's worth checking out their site for details. Way better than spending entire days redialing Washington ESD and getting hung up on.

the back pay thing is confusing they dont explain it well on the website. mine took like a week to come through but some weeks were missing?? had to call and straighten it out

Dylan Campbell
•Were you able to get the missing weeks sorted out? That's exactly what I'm worried about happening.

•yeah but it took forever to get someone on the phone. they fixed it eventually but had to wait another week for those payments

One thing to watch for with Washington ESD back pay - if you had any work during those weeks, even part-time, it can affect the amount of each back pay deposit. Make sure your work history reporting was accurate when you filed your original claim.

•This is important! I had to report some freelance work I did and it reduced my back pay amount for those specific weeks.

•I didn't work at all during those weeks so hopefully that makes it straightforward.

Just went through this exact situation with Washington ESD. Back pay showed up in 4 business days, but they sent it in weird amounts - some weeks combined, others separate. The total was correct though. Check your payment history in your account to track everything.

•Good tip about checking payment history. I'll definitely monitor that closely to make sure I get everything I'm owed.

•Also screenshot everything for your records. Washington ESD systems can be glitchy and it's good to have proof of what they owe you.

FINALLY someone else dealing with this! I've been approved for 3 days now and still no back pay. This whole system is so frustrating - why can't they just tell us exactly when to expect the money??

Sofia Hernandez
•I know it's frustrating, but 3 days is still within the normal processing window. Give it until the end of the week before worrying.

•I guess you're right, just anxious because I have bills due. Thanks for the reality check.

Pro tip for anyone waiting on Washington ESD back pay - make sure your address and banking info are current in your account. I had a friend whose back pay got delayed because their address was outdated from when they moved.

•Good point! I just double-checked and everything looks current. Fingers crossed it comes through soon.

•This happened to my neighbor! Took an extra 2 weeks to fix the address issue and get the payments reprocessed.

Back pay calculations can be tricky if you had any disqualification periods or if your claim had multiple issues. Washington ESD will only pay for weeks you were fully eligible. Worth calling to verify if you're unsure about any specific weeks.

•My claim was pretty straightforward - just took forever to process. Hopefully no complications with the back pay calculation.

•That's good - simple claims usually have simple back pay processing. You should be fine.

I used Claimyr to get through to Washington ESD when my back pay was missing some weeks. Took about 10 minutes to reach an agent versus the hours I'd been spending trying to call. They sorted out my missing payments right away.

•Did you have to give them your personal info or SSN? I'm always nervous about third-party services.

•The service just helps you get connected to Washington ESD faster. Once you're talking to the ESD agent, it's just like a normal call. Check out their demo video to see how it works.

been waiting 3 weeks for back pay after approval this is ridiculous. washington esd needs to get their act together

•3 weeks is definitely too long. You should call to check if there's an issue with your payments. Something might be holding them up.

•tried calling 50 times today alone. can never get through to anyone

•This is exactly why I used Claimyr - calling Washington ESD directly is nearly impossible. Might be worth trying if you need to reach someone quickly.

For anyone wondering, Washington ESD back pay includes the $7 administrative fee deduction per week, just like regular payments. Don't be surprised when the amounts are slightly less than your weekly benefit amount.
0 coins
Dylan Campbell
•Oh I didn't know about the administrative fee! Good to know so I don't panic when the amounts look different.

Oliver Fischer
•Yeah it's small but adds up. They take it out of every payment automatically.

I just got my back pay last week after a 7-week adjudication delay. Washington ESD sent 7 separate deposits over 2 days, each for about $435 after taxes and fees. The timing was Tuesday and Wednesday if that helps anyone predict theirs.

Dylan Campbell
•That's really helpful! Mine should be similar timing then since I got approved on a Monday. Thanks for sharing the details.

•Did you have taxes taken out automatically or did you elect that when you filed?

Natasha Petrova
•I elected 10% federal tax withholding when I first filed my claim, so that was already factored into each payment.

Make sure you understand the difference between back pay and retroactive benefits. Back pay is for weeks you already filed weekly claims for but didn't get paid due to adjudication. Retroactive is if you're approved to backdate your claim start date.
0 coins
Dylan Campbell
•Good distinction! Mine is definitely back pay since I've been filing weekly claims the whole time.

GalaxyGlider
•This is confusing - I thought they were the same thing. Can you explain retroactive benefits more?
0 coins
Emma Davis
•Retroactive means Washington ESD approves moving your claim start date earlier than when you originally filed, usually for good cause reasons. It's much less common than regular back pay.

washington esd owes me 4 weeks back pay and its been 10 days since approval. getting really worried something went wrong. anyone else had delays this long?

•10 days is longer than normal. I'd definitely call to check if there's a payment hold or issue with your account.

Just a heads up - Washington ESD back pay deposits might show up with slightly different reference numbers than your regular weekly payments. Don't panic if the transaction descriptions look different in your bank account.

Dylan Campbell
•Good to know! I'll watch for that so I don't get confused when they hit my account.

•Mine showed up as 'WASHINGTON STATE ESD BACKPAY' instead of the usual weekly payment description.

The wait for back pay is nerve-wracking but in my experience Washington ESD is pretty reliable about getting it processed once your claim is approved. Just takes patience unfortunately.

•Thanks for the reassurance! It's definitely stressful waiting for money you've been counting on for weeks.

•Yeah the waiting is the worst part. At least we know it's coming eventually.

One last thing - if you're getting direct deposit for back pay, make sure your bank doesn't flag the multiple deposits as suspicious activity. Mine temporarily froze my account because of 5 unemployment deposits in one day.
0 coins
Dylan Campbell
•Oh wow, didn't think about that! I'll give my bank a heads up that multiple deposits are coming.

•Yeah it was a pain to sort out but calling the bank ahead of time would have prevented the whole mess.
